Abstract

Euodia suaveolens is one of the plants that ancient people in Indonesia used due to its manifold benefits. Earlier research on this plant was mostly done on its potency as a mosquito repellent. This present study aims to determine the phytochemical and antibacterial analyses of the essential oils (EOs) extracted from the leaves of E. suaveolens. The EOs of the leaves of E. suaveolens were extracted by steam distillation method and were analyzed phytochemically utilizing the GC-MS technique to determine the chemical constituents. The chemical components were tested on four pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis utilizing the diffusion agar method. The results showed that the main compounds extracted from the EOs were delta curcumene, evodone, globulol, limonene, linalool, longipinenepoxide, menthofuran, and p-mentha-1,8-diene. The antibacterial analysis of these compounds showed potential activities to inhibit the growth of four pathogenic bacteria tested, but the inhibition zones formed were still lower compared to commercial antibiotic kanamycin. E. suaveolens EOs exhibited diameter of zone of inhibition as follows 2.03 plus minus 0.22, 0.50 plus minus 0.49, 1.38 plus minus 0.10, 1.40 plus minus 0.27 cm to E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, and S. epidermidis while kanamycin showed 3.43 plus minus 0.08, 3.25 plus minus 0.08, 3.38 plus minus 0.12, and 3.18 plus minus 0.24 cm respectively. These results recommend that the main compounds extracted from the EOs of the leaves of E. suaveolens be explored further to determine their potencies as new antibiotic medications.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di Paroki St. Maria Bunda Penasihat Baik, Wates. Tujuan kegiatan adalah meningkatkan kesadaran dan pemahaman masyarakat tentang prinsip-prinsip Laudato Si' serta pemanfaatan dan budidaya tanaman berenuk (Crescentia cujete) serta pembuatan ekoenzim sebagai salah satu bentuk pengolahan sampah organik. Metode yang digunakan meliputi survei lokasi, sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan evaluasi. Pelatihan mencakup pembuatan produk berbasis berenuk seperti sari buah, masker-jelly, teh daun berenuk, serta pemanfaatan sampah organik menjadi ekoenzim. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan warga gereja tentang pemanfaatan tanaman berenuk sebagai sumber senyawa fitokimia yang bermanfaat serta metode pengolahan sampah menjadi produk bernilai guna. Evaluasi menunjukkan tingkat kepuasan masyarakat yang tinggi terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan ini. Program ini tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran lingkungan tetapi juga memberikan keterampilan baru yang aplikatif kepada masyarakat setempat.

Abstract

Paroki Santa Theresia Lisieux (STL) Boro terletak pada area pengembangan pariwisata sehingga berpotensi menjadi desa wisata dengan amenitas khas berupa jahe emprit. Produksi jahe pada area ini memiliki keterbatasan kuantitas, kontinuitas, dan kualitas karena minimnya pengetahuan dan ketrampilan petani dalam penanaman dan pemeliharaan tanaman serta pengolahan rimpang jahe menjadi produk jadi. Fakultas Teknobiologi, Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta memberikan pelatihan dan pendampingan untuk memperbaiki pengetahuan dan ketrampilan petani jahe di area Paroki STL Boro. Pelatihan dan pendampingan dibagi menjadi tujuh kali pertemuan yang terdiri dari sosialisasi dan evaluasi pengetahuan dalam bentuk kuesioner, dilanjutkan dengan pelatihan tentang prapanen, panen, pascapanen primer dan sekunder, serta yang terakhir adalah evaluasi berupa diskusi dan kuesioner. Topik pertemuan pascapanen sekunder terdiri dari pembuatan produk kesehatan (serbuk jahe instan) dan produk kosmetik (lulur jahe). Hasil analisis data kuesioner secara semikuantitatif menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan petani sebesar 75% antara sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan. Dengan adanya pelatihan, petani di Paroki STL Boro mampu menghasilkan produk jahe instan yang telah dipasarkan secara terbatas.

Abstract

Abstract "Teratai Salju" is a symbiotic community of bacteria and yeast. One of the fermentation results of "snow lotus" was alcohol that is useful as a solvent such as cosmetics, disinfectants, and fuels. This research aims to determine the genus of microorganisms and the maximum ethanol content produced by "teratai salju" using palm sugar and sucrose variations 15, 45 and 85 grams in 250 ml water with 5 repetitions. Stages of research including growth and maintenance of "snow lotus", observation of colonies morphology, yeast staining, negative staining, Gram staining, dry weight measurement, total acid number, pH measurement, and ethanol content measurement. Data analysis was performed by Analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a duncan multiple range test with a 95% confidence level with SPSS 15.0. This research was conducted with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results obtained show that ethanol content of "teratai salju" optimized at the addition of 85 gram sucrose at 0,22-0,86%.
