Abstract

Abstrak –this classroom research answers the two questions in the research problems. Firstly, Silent Way Method is so effective in improving student linguistic performance in Intensive English Course at Year 2 students in the Department of English Education Program at the Faculty of Teachers Training and Education as it explores students speaking skill to emerge and those who are shy feel confident to speak English even a bit. Secondly, it is so clear that Silent Way Method gives evidence to us that it can significantly improved student linguistic performance in Intensive English Course at Year 2 students in the Department of English Education Program at the Faculty of Teachers Training and Education by looking at the evidence as follows: 1)Teacher can provide oral fluency practice using presentation and group work model, 2) Teacher succeeds very well in achieving direct error correction  and the discourse is allowed to proceed with minimum  interruption, 3) In giving content  feedback, teacher suceeds to create an atmosphere which is conducive to learning and is likely to promote learner involvement, 4) By constantly checking  for  confirmation, it creates considerable evidence that teachers who constantly  seek clarification, check  for confirmation and who do not always accept the first contribution a student offers are more likely to maximize linguistic performace potential than those who do not constantly, 5) Teacher succeeds in engaging students and  in  promoting  longer verbal communication. His verbal behaviour allows students to play a full and active role in classroom, producing more  complete, more natural responses, 6) Teacher only intervenes when necessary, giving language support, correcting  errors or adding a personal comment, 7) As far as the learner contributions are concerned, it is evident from this extract that learners and teacher are actively engaged in constructing a piece of discourse which resembles a conversation. Silent Way Method indeed has a number of  positive  effects, from  an  excited, questioning approach to teaching to improved classroom interaction and involvement with the students. By controlled use of language and by matching pedagogic and linguistic goals, teacher facilitates and promotes reformulation and clarification, leading to greater involvement and precision of language on the part of the  learners.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari solusi atas permasalahan rendahnya motivasi Reading Comprehension mahasiswa semester dua program studi Teknik Informatika Universitas Teknologi Mataram. Salah satu solusi yang peneliti gunakan untuk memecahkan masalah ini adalah dengan menggunakan metode terpilih yang memfokuskan kegiatannya pada peningkatan motivasi Reading Comprehension mahasiswa. Penelitian ini mengembangkan penerapan Metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) guna meningkatkan motivasi Reading Comprehension mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan cara memberikan treatment berbeda terhadap dua kelompok sampel penelitian. Penelitian ini merupakan pengembangan model 4D yang terdiri tahap pendefinisian, tahap desain, tahap pengembangan dan tahap menyebarkan. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan instrument pre-test dan post-test, observasi selama proses belajar mengajar, pengisian angket dan interview. Hasil temuan dalam penelitian ini digambarkan bahwa nilai rata-rata mahasiswa pada post-test menunjukkan hasil lebih besar bila dibandingkan pencapaian nilai pada pre-test yaitu (79.50>62.01. Kesimpulan yang dapat digarus bawahi dalri penelitian ini adalah bahwa metode CIRC efektif diterapkan pada pembelajaran Reading Comprehension mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris dan penerapan metode CIRC pada proses pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar mahasiswa.

Abstract

This research is entitled Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Method on Students' Reading Comprehension Motivation at Mataram University of Technology. The purpose of this study was to overcome the low reading comprehension motivation of the second semester students of the Informatics Engineering study program at the Mataram University of Technology. This study used an experimental method design as a research design. This is the simplest design that examines two treatments, where each treatment is varied into two treatment levels. The experimental group consisting of 22 students was given treatment using the CIRC method, while the control group used conventional methods in the teaching and learning process. In applying the CIRC method to the experimental group, the researcher divided students into small groups consisting of 4 to 5 people per group, then students carried out the stages of implementing the CIRC method. Data collection was obtained based on the results of the pre-test, post-test, results of filling out questionnaires and observations during the learning activities. The data were processed using SPSS and the results were analyzed using a descriptive statistical model where the research data were presented and described based on data obtained from observations, questionnaires, interviews, pre-test and post-test results, and conclusions were obtained regarding the success rate of applying the CIRC method. The results showed that the average score of students in the post-test showed greater results when compared to the achievement scores in the pre-test, namely (79.50> 62.01. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that the CIRC method is effectively applied to students' Reading Comprehension learning in English courses and the application of the CIRC method to the learning process can increase student learning motivation.

Abstract

PKM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan para anggota kelompok dalam bidang teknologi informasi dan meningkatkan kemampuan kelompok dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa inggris. Permasalahan pertama yang dihadapi oleh kelompok sadar wisata sendang gile adalah terbatasnya pengetahuan kelompok sadar wisata sendang gile dalam menggunakan teknologi informasi khususnya dalam bidang pariwisata. Permasalahan yang kedua adalah terbatasnya kemampuan kelompok sadar wisata dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa inggris. Metode yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut adalah dengan mengadakan pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada kelompok sadar wisata tentang pemanfaatan teknologi informasi pada sektor pariwisata seperti pembuatan video untuk promosi desa wisata, pelatihan digital marketing melalui sosial media dan pelatihan pengelolaan website sebagai media promosi desa wisata senaru. Selain itu, pada kegiatan ini diadakan pelatihan dan pendampingan bahasa inggris khususnya penggunaan bahasa inggris dalam bidang pariwisata. Setelah mengadakan pelatihan teknologi telah dilakukan evaluasi kepada seluruh peserta sehingga dihasilkan 90% peserta mampu membuat video promosi desa wisata yang ditunjukkan melalui tugas membuat video setelah pelatihan selesai. Sedangkan pelatihan bahasa inggris dilakukan evaluasi dengan memberikan beberapa pertanyaan kepada peserta dan hasilnya seluruh peserta mendapatkan nilai yang berkisar antara 80 – 85 sesuai dengan hasil evaluasi pada akhir acara pelatihan. Setelah acara pelatihan selesai dilakukan pendampingan bagi peserta yang membutuhkan pembinaan dalam membuat video promosi, digital marketing, pengelolaan website dan bahasa inggris, sehingga kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dapat bermanfaat bagi kelompok sadar wisata sendang gile Desa Senaru Kecamatan Bayan kabupaten Lombok Utara. Human Resources Development of the Sendang Gile Tourism Awareness Group, Senaru Village, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency This PKM aims to improve the abilities of group members in the field of information technology and improve the group's ability to communicate using English. The first problem faced by the Sendang Gile tourism awareness group is the limited knowledge of the Sendang Gile tourism awareness group in using information technology, especially in the tourism sector. The second problem is the limited ability of tourism awareness groups to communicate using English. The method used to resolve this problem is by providing training and assistance to tourism awareness groups regarding the use of information technology in the tourism sector, such as making videos to promote tourist villages, digital marketing training via social media and training on website management as a promotional medium for Senaru tourist villages. Apart from that, this activity provides English language training and assistance, especially the use of English in the tourism sector. After holding technology training, an evaluation was carried out on all participants so that 90% of participants were able to make promotional videos for tourist villages, which was demonstrated through the task of making videos after the training was completed. Meanwhile, the English language training was evaluated by asking several questions to the participants and the result was that all participants received scores ranging from 80 - 85 according to the evaluation results at the end of the training event. After the training event is completed, assistance is provided for participants who need guidance in making promotional videos, digital marketing, website management and English, so that this community service activity can be useful for the Sendang Gile tourism awareness group, Senaru Village, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency.

Abstract

This study is aimed at portraying teacher’s strategies in teaching reading comprehension to students by involving English teachers. The main purpose of the study was to describe the strategies used by english teachers and reveal the strength and weakness of the strategies. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The design of the study was a case study. The participants of the research were two English teachers who teach in the second grade of junior high schools. Each English teacher had eight meetings that observed by the researcher. To collect the data, there were research instruments: observation, document analysys checklist and interview. They were used to find out the strategies used and how the English teachers applied them in teaching reading comprehension. The result of the study showed that both teachers used almost the same strategies such as brainstorming, reading aloud, and asking for specific information. While the teacher two used nine strategies. They were encouraging the use of dictionaries, reading aloud, reread for checking comprehension, evaluating comprehension in particular tasks, and asking questions for specific information. Both teachers applied and combined the strategies divided into three stages of teaching reading comprehension. The stages were pre-reading stage, while reading stage, and post reading stage. The strategies applied were very effective in teaching reading comprehension in that school. It was proven by the students’ motivation, students’ attention, and teachers’ ease in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of podcasts in improving the listening skills of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. The research was conducted at Yusuf Abdussatar Islamic Vocational School in Kediri West Lombok Indonesia Indonesia (n=35, Grade 11), the research employed an experimental design with interviews and questionnaires. The findings reveal that majority of students (55%) perceived podcasts as facilitating easier learning, further integration strategies could be explored for optimal benefit. Although 75% found podcasts somewhat effective and enjoyable, further research could identify aspects to maximize their impact. Encouragingly, all students agreed that podcasts could improve listening skills. Additionally, 90% of participants reported increased motivation to learn further after using podcasts. The study also revealed positive perceptions regarding podcasts' contribution to keeping up with educational media trends (16.7% strongly agreed) and fostering independent learning (83.3% agreed or strongly agreed). These findings suggest that podcasts can be a valuable tool for EFL classrooms. Conclusion: Incorporating podcasts into EFL classrooms appears to be a promising method for improving listening skills and fostering a positive learning environment.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan bahasa Inggris dan kapasitas manajemen informasi digital di MANW Suwangi Lombok Timur melalui penerapan teknologi pembelajaran berbasis Deep Learning menggunakan aplikasi The Santri Glow serta pelatihan pengelolaan situs web sekolah. Program dilaksanakan melalui dua rangkaian pelatihan utama, yaitu pelatihan bahasa Inggris selama dua hari dan pelatihan sistem informasi sekolah bagi operator. Untuk mengukur efektivitas pelatihan bahasa Inggris, dilakukan pre-test dan post-test dengan total 10 butir soal yang mencakup empat keterampilan: Listening, Speaking, Reading, dan Writing. Sebanyak 28 siswa mengikuti tes, dengan rata-rata skor pre-test sebesar 4,21, meningkat menjadi 5,93 pada post-test. Sebanyak 23 siswa mengalami peningkatan, 5 siswa tetap, dan tidak ada siswa yang mengalami penurunan. Analisis per keterampilan juga menunjukkan peningkatan merata, terutama pada Writing dan Speaking. Selain itu, pendampingan pengelolaan situs web sekolah menghasilkan peningkatan kemampuan operator dalam mengelola konten digital, memperbarui informasi sekolah, serta menggunakan platform WordPress secara mandiri. Secara keseluruhan, program PKM ini menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan teknologi interaktif yang relevan dengan minat digital siswa mampu meningkatkan motivasi dan kemampuan belajar, sekaligus memperkuat kapasitas sekolah dalam menyediakan layanan informasi yang lebih baik. Hasil ini menjadi landasan untuk pengembangan program lanjutan guna memastikan keberlanjutan dan perluasan dampak teknologi di lingkungan madrasah.
