Abstract

This study is limited to the investigation of the correlation between students’ learning strategy, and reading comprehensionof the ninth grade students at State Junior High School 01 Buay Rawan, OKU Selatan. There were 85 students who has been selected as the sample of the research. The writer used correlational study and formula to see the correlation between two variable stated. Correlation about Students’ Learning Strategies (X2) and Reading Comprehension (Y) for 0.028. Sig. Value 0.797 was higher than Alpha value 0.05 (0.797 >0,2146), Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. In other words, there was no a positive correlation between Students’ Learning Strategies (X2) and Reading Comprehension(Y). It can be stated that Students Learning Strategies (X) simultaneously have no significant correlated the reading comprehension(Y).

Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the inquiry on the correlations among self-confidence, learning motivation, and speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of State Vocational High School 1 of Talang Ubi PALI. The problem of this study is to investigate the correlations among self-confidence, learning motivation, and speaking ability. The total number of the population was 226 students. The sample for this study was 34 students taken through purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by adopting questionnaire for self-confidence and learning motivation, and a test for speaking ability. Data were analyzed by using r-Product Moment and Multiple Regression. The data analysis shows that = 0.516 with = 0,267 and p-value is 0.008. This value is lower than 0.05. This is significant. So, Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. Conclusions suggest that there are significant correlations among self-confidence, learning motivation, and speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of State Vocational High School 1 of Talang Ubi PALI.

Abstract

This study investigated the correlation among personality types, learning styles and writing ability to the eleventh grade students at Senior High School Number 1 Sekayu. The aims of this study were to measure the correlation between personality types and writing ability, the correlation between learning styles and writing ability, the correlation between personality types and learning styles, and the correlation among personality types, learning styles, and writing ability. In this study, the writer used purposive technique sampling. The data were collected by using questionnaire and test. The data were analyzed by using r-product moment and multiple regressions. The findings of this study are: 1. There was not any significant correlation between personality types and writing ability of the eleventh grade students at Senior High at Senior High School 1 Sekayu. 2. There was not any significant correlation between learning styles and writing ability of the eleventh grade students at Senior High School 1 Sekayu. 3. There was significant correlation between learning styles and writing ability of the eleventh grade students at at Senior High School 1 Sekayu. 4. There were not any significant correlations among personality types, learning styles, and writing ability of the eleventh grade students at Senior High School Number 1 Sekayu. It could be concluded that personality types and learning styles were not correlated significantly with students’ writing ability.

Abstract

This research was concerned with the inquiry on the correlation among learning motivation, parents’ involvement and speaking achievement of the fourth-grade pupil at Palembang Paramount School. The population of this study was 327, the sample was 38 taken by using purposive sampling. Data were collected by adopting a questionnaire for learning motivation and parents’ involvement, and test for speaking achievement. Data were analyzed by using r-Product Moment and Multiple Regression. Findings show that there were correlations among learning motivation, parents’ involvement, and speaking achievement. The data analysis shows that R_yx1x2 = 0.682 with r2 = 0.465 and the criteria of the sig-test was F_count(15.183) > F_table (3.270). therefore, the alternative hypothesis Ha was accepted while the null hypothesis Ho was rejected. Conclusions suggested that there were significant correlations among learning motivation, parents’ involvement and speaking achievement of the fourth-grade pupils at Palembang Paramount School.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding the suitabality of the readability levels of reading texts in English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris Kelas X which is used at the tenth grade students of IBA Senior High School. There are ten reading texts in textbook, they met calculated by using The Dale-Chall Formula and Cloze Procedure Test to know about the suitabality and readability levels of reading texts. From this research there are only two reading texts in English textbook Entitled Bahasa Inggris Kelas X by Kemendikbud are suitable for tenth grade students and they were classified into Independent Level, it means that the reading texts considered easy enough for students to read on their own without any help. In conclusion that readability of reading materials in the textbook is found reading materials in the textbook is found reading m suggest that readability of reading materials are suitable with students grade level.

Abstract

Reciprocal teaching strategy (RTS) is an instructional activity that takes text from of dialogue between teachers and students regrinding segments of the text for the purpose of constructing the meaning of text. A reciprocal provides students with four specific reading strategies that are actively and consciously used to support comprehension; questioning, clarifying, summarizing, and predicting. Reading is an activity that is done by written text or print text as a medium. In this activity readers decode and interpret the language to get the meaning. This study aims to determine student reading motivation towards reciprocal teaching strategy on the eight grade students’ reading ability at Junior High School 35 Palembang.

Abstract

Literature is one of the tools used by humans to depict social phenomenon. Since centuries ago, there are a lot of literary works have brought up suicide into the topics. Today, this topic is still becoming a thing in popular novels. One of the most popular is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Data are collected by using the novel. Data were analyzed by detailing intrinsic elements, motives for teen suicide, and the theoretical implications for English Language Teaching. The findings of this research explained some interesting things about this novel. First, it is about how Jay Asher presents each element in this novel not only visually, but also how the elements are perceived by the characters. Jay uniquely presents two narrations from Hannah & Clay back and forth throughout the novel, which makes this novel very interesting. Second, there are 7 from 10 items on IMSA found in Hannah's statements that scientifically support her actions to end her life. Third, this novel could be used as a tool for teachers to teach about empathy, mental health, and suicide prevention in High Schools.

Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the inquiry on the correlations among learning strategy, learning motivation and the seventh grade students’ speaking ability of SMP Negeri 03 Muaradua OKUS. The problem of this study is to investigate the correlations among learning strategy, learning motivation and speaking ability. The total number of the population was 76 students. The sample for this study was 52 students taken through cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected by adopting questionnaire for learning strategy and learning motivation, and a test for speaking ability. Data were analyzed by using r-product moment and multiple regression.  Findings show that there are significant correlations among learning strategy, learning motivation, and speaking ability. Conclusions suggest that learning strategy and learning motivation have significant correlations with speaking ability.
