Abstract

This study purposes in determining the effectiveness of students writing ability on descriptive text being taught using the Chain Writing Method for the B class of Informatics Engineering Study Program Balitar Islamic University 2020/2021 academic year. This research is an experimental research, which uses the chain writing method to find out its effectiveness from student learning outcomes. The population of this study were first semester students of Informatics Engineering Study program which consisted of 21 students as a sample. The researchers applied one group pretest posttest. The sampling technique is random sampling. The method used is a quasi-experimental design. The pretest result done by Informatics Engineering students shown the average was 44.19%. The pre-test was conducted by researcher in March 2020. Then it can be concluded that their Writing Descriptive text ability are not good enough. The results of data analysis, known that the chain writing method is more effectively used in learning to write descriptive text for B class of Informatics Engineering students. It has significance difference in mean of determining by précising statistics of dependent T-test. From the calculating result of the t-test found that the t-value obtained was 5,959, while the required critical t-value at p> .05, the level of significance of the two tailed test is 2.086 (df = 20), p> .01 the two tailed significant level of test was 2.845 (df = 20). The data results of this research indicates that there is a significance difference in pretest and posttest score result. This proves that the chain writing method is effective method in learning the descriptive texts for the informatics engineering class in the 2020/2021 academic year.

Abstract

TOEFL or known as the Test of English as a Foreign Language is an English test that is used to measure the level of mastery of a student's English through listening, reading, and writing and structural expressions. This test is very useful for high school students. One of the benefits that can be felt by students is as preparation for college level. With good English skills, it will produce a maximum TOEFL score. Community service activities that have been carried out for JAYABAYA Tutoring students using the lecture, discussion, and practice methods of working on TOEFL questions. The lecture method used to motivate as well as deliver the material makes students feel enthusiastic about trying to work on the TOEFL questions. The method of discussion and practice is carried out to determine the level of students' English mastery through the TOEFL test. By providing discussions and opportunities to do TOEFL Exercises, it increases students' motivation to learn English

Abstract

This research employed a quantitative research method to investigate the effectiveness of Padlet utilization in enhancing the reading skills of tenth-grade students in comprehending recount texts at a vocational school. The quantitative approach allowed for the collection of numerical data that was analyzed using statistical techniques to determine the impact of the instructional intervention. Specifically, a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design were employed, with data collected through validated and reliable tests. The statistical analysis involved the use of paired sample T-tests with SPSS 22 to compare the participants' pre-test and post-test scores. The significance level was set at p < 0.05 to determine the effectiveness of Padlet in boosting the reading skills of the students. Based on the result, English teachers are encouraged to incorporate the Padlet application into teaching practice to boost students’ learning outcomes and improve their engagement in learning. Further study is needed to find out the efficacy of Padlet compared to other digital interactive boards such as Lino, Wakelet, Dotstorming, and others.

Abstract

The present study has the intention to create, validate, evaluate the effectiveness, and gain responses toward the developed product of Easy listening audio for enhancing the eight grade students’ listening learning outcomes in Blitar It was achieved by adapting Sugiyono's frameworks of developing the product into seven phases which covered; 1) problems identification and, solution identification, 2) designing and developing the product,3) validating and revising the product, 4) conducting product trials,5) collecting feedback from teachers and students, 6) evaluating and revising the product, and 7) finalizing it for publication. The research reported that the Easy Listening Audio comprised audio listening materials describing people, things, and animals, and three guidebooks for teachers, students, and the public. The validation process confirmed that the developed product was highly valid, with material validators rating it at 95% and media validators at 89%. The effectiveness of the product was also evident from the t-test results, which showed a value of less than 0.005, indicating a significant improvement in learning outcomes. Additionally, users responded positively to the product, with 91.6% of students rating it as "Very good" and 78.5% of teachers rating it as "Good." Therefore, it is recommended that teachers consider using the developed Easy Listening Audio as an alternative medium, particularly for teaching listening descriptive text in junior high schools

Abstract

Students' writing mastery in descriptive texts tends to decline. The limitations of effective writing learning media are one of the causes of students' decreased interest in writing. This research was aimed at understanding the wheel spinning game effect to facilite on writing descriptive text for seventh grade students and to understand the feasibility of these facilities. Using research was Research and Development Design with Sugiyono's adaptation model, which includes; Data Collection and Finding Potential, Problem and Solution, Design and Development, Experts Validation and Revision, Trial, Evaluation by Experts and Revision, and Final Product. Researchers used class VII B students at UPT SMPN 2 Talun as research objects totaling 30 students. The research obtained quantitative data from the result of questionnaire and tests while the qualitative data was obtained from interview. The result of the research development questionnaire in the form of games showed that 79.90% of students agreed with the wheel spinning game media as descriptive text learning. The results of product showed that the wheel spinning for writing of descriptive text was valid, the average material experts was 85% and the average media experts was 83.3%. Test and try to show that the game is effective. The pre-test result was 57.2 and the post-testresult increase to 80.76. The value of t-test with t-count -16.053<t-table 2.045 with a significant value of 0.05. The product was valid and can be used as a facility in the teaching and learning process. The result of student response was 85.20%, the score is very good. Wheel spinning game improves students' writing skills and motivate them to learn. The result of the research above indicates that the wheel spinning game is valid to be used as a tool of learning descriptive writing for class VII students. The next researchers may use this game for the other level of students.

Abstract

This quantitative study meticulously evaluated the effects of the Baamboozle application on seventh-grade students' vocabulary acquisition, particularly within the context of descriptive text. Utilizing a pre-experimental design, the study implemented a one-group baseline and follow-up tests model to assess the intervention's efficacy. Data was collected using baseline and follow-up tests. The statistical analysis was performed through paired sample T-tests by utilizing SPSS 25. The findings indicated a substantial improvement in students' average vocabulary scores, increasing from 57.25 to 73.00, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of less than 0.05, confirming statistical significance. The result underscores the value of integrating Baamboozle into English instruction, highlighting its potential to significantly escalate learning outcomes and amplify student engagement. Future research should focus on comparative studies assessing Baamboozle's efficacy relative to other digital learning platforms, such as Duolingo, Busuu, Lingodeer, and similar tools, to further advance and optimize vocabulary teaching strategies.
