Abstract

Aromatherapy is an ancient healing process that uses pure aromatherapy plant extracts aimed at improving the health and well-being of the body, mind and spirit. Lavender contains linalil acetate and linalool. Linalil acetate and linalool have no harmful side effects on health. This substance is antibacterial, fungicidal, viriside, parasiticidal and vermifugal and has neurotonic and uterotonic action. This study aims to determine the effect of lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia) aromatherapy candles on increasing the concentration of student learning at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Wasliyah Pasar Miring in Desa Pasar Miring . The study used a quasi-pretest-posttest experimental method for 30 randomly selected students. The instrument in this study used the Army Alpha Test with data analysis using Paired T-Test. Hypothesis testing using Paired T-Test showed p value = 0.026<0.05 (p <0.05). It can be concluded that there is an influence of lavender oil aromatherapy candles on increasing the concentration of student learning in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al- Wasliyah Pasar Miring in Desa Pasar Miring

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires appropriate solutions for its management. To date, synthetic antidiabetic drugs frequently cause side effects in the body. The search for natural antidiabetic agents has therefore been carried out by exploring the potential of mundu leaves, which are considered safer as they originate from natural sources. Mundu leaves contain flavonoids, phenols, and tannins, which may act as natural antidiabetic agents due to their richness in hydroxyl and aromatic compounds. Antioxidant compounds play a role in protecting body cells from oxidative stress, which is strongly associated with diabetes. Several species from the Garcinia genus have been studied, but to date, no research has focused on the antidiabetic potential of mundu leaves. Through assays of mundu leaf extract in inhibiting α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes, as well as antioxidant tests, DM could potentially be better controlled, providing a reference for its use as a natural antidiabetic and antioxidant agent. Mundu leaves were prepared and macerated using ethanol as a solvent, followed by evaporation with a rotary evaporator. Phytochemical screening was conducted to detect the presence of active compounds. The inhibitory activity of mundu leaf extract against α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes was measured using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer to obtain absorbance values. The absorbance data were then used to determine the percentage of inhibition, allowing the calculation of IC50 values as a benchmark for antidiabetic activity. The results demonstrated that the mundu leaf extract exhibited antidiabetic properties, with IC50 values of 51.058 ppm and 33.004 ppm, categorized as strong and very strong, respectively.

Abstract

The skin is the outermost layer of the body that functions as the main protector from environmental exposure, including free radicals that can cause cell damage such as premature aging, dry skin, and various other skin disorders. Efforts to maintain healthy skin can be done through the use of appropriate cosmetic products, one of which is in the form of lotion. Lotion is a topical preparation that is easy to apply and can increase moisture and provide protection to the skin. Snake fruit (Salacca zalacca), a plant native to Indonesia that grows in tropical areas, is known to contain various bioactive compounds such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, flavonols, polyphenols, and β-carotene which have potential as antioxidants. This study aims to formulate and evaluate body lotion preparations based on ethanol extract of snake fruit (Salacca zalacca) as an antioxidant. The research methods include the preparation of simple drugs, extraction with ethanol solvents, body lotion formulations with varying extract concentrations (3%, 6%, and 9%), as well as physical quality evaluations including organoleptic tests, homogeneity, spreadability, pH, and irritation tests on volunteers. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH (2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results showed that all body lotion formulations met the physical evaluation requirements, with stable, homogeneous characteristics, good spreadability, and a pH that matched the skin's pH. The  irritation test showed that the preparation was safe to use because it did not cause irritation reactions on the volunteers' skin. Antioxidant activity testing showed that the ethanol extract of snake fruit had relatively strong antioxidant activity, with activity increasing along with increasing extract concentration in the preparation. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of snake fruit (Salacca zalacca) has the potential to be formulated into a stable, safe, and effective body lotion as an antioxidant to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The increasing prevalence of DM requires community-based promotive and preventive efforts, including the use of natural ingredients as supporting traditional treatments. Sapodilla fruit (Manilkara zapota) is known to contain dietary fiber, polyphenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant compounds that have the potential to help control blood sugar levels. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of DM sufferers regarding the introduction and use of sapodilla fruit juice as a complementary traditional therapy. The methods used included outreach, health education, cooking sapodilla fruit juice, and interactive discussions. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge levels. The "good" knowledge category increased from 16.7% before the activity to 73.3% after the activity. In addition, participants showed a positive attitude towards the use of sapodilla fruit juice as a safe complementary therapy without replacing primary medical treatment. This activity is expected to become an alternative, applicable and sustainable health education to support the healing of Diabetes Mellitus in the community.
