Abstract

This study aims to describe the politeness of representative speech acts and directive speech acts used in NPO-Volcano’s disaster mitigation guideline materials. The method used on this research is descriptive method with data classification based on Searle (1979)’s illocutionary speech acts category and Brown & Levinson (1987)’s politeness scale of speech acts. On the NPO-Volcano disaster mitigation guide material found 41 data of the representative speech acts, which were used for (1) the stating function, (2) the speculating function, (3) the informing function, (4) the mentioning function, (5) the explaining function, and (6) the suggesting function. For the directive speech acts, 30 data were found, which were divided into three types of speech functions, the command function that used in form of ~verb e, ~te kudasai, ~mashou, the inviting function and the prohibiting function. Furthermore, when analyzed using Brown and Levinson's (1987) Politeness Theory, the representative and directive speech acts in the NPO-Volcano disaster mitigation material guide is using “bold on record” and “negative politeness” type of Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness theory. The forms of negative politeness used are: the use of indirect expressions, respectful language, impersonalization and nominalization.

Abstract

The Japanese Calligraphy tutorial program at 7th Nihongo Club of  Senior High Schools/Equivalent in Bandung aims to increase insight about Japanese calligraphy techniques (Shodo) and to find out the extent of students' interest in traditional Japanese culture, especially Japanese calligraphy. The implementation of the activity uses the Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach method, which is a collaborative pattern between the community and the world of higher education that is action-oriented with service learning. After the tutorial carried out, the target audience gains the latest knowledge and skills about Shodo (Japanese calligraphy). The results of this activity are that participants can understand basic kanji calligraphy techniques, namely kaisho, with a focus on four material skills, namely mastering line and tome techniques on kanji 一, kanji 十. Then master the technique of making a combination of horizontal and vertical lines, and can make hidari harai and hane on kanji 口 and kanji 行. Participants can also master the technique of making kagi hane on kanji 円、kanji 先. In addition, participants can also master the technique of making migi harai on the kanji 本 and kanji 永. Participants also showed a high interest in Japanese calligraphy, this can be seen from the answers to the satisfaction questionnaire which stated that participants wanted to learn additional material on Japanese kanji calligraphy.   Abstrak Program tutorial Kaligrafi Jepang pada 7 Nihongo Club SMA/Sederajat di kota Bandung ini bertujuan untuk untuk menambah wawasan mengenai Shodo atau teknik kaligrafi Jepang yang merupakan budaya tradisional Jepang dan mengetahui sejauh mana minat siswa terhadap budaya tradisional Jepang, khususnya kaligrafi Jepang. Pelaksanaan kegiatan menggunakan metode pendekatan Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR), yaitu pola kolaborasi antara komunitas dengan dunia pendidikan tinggi yang berorientasi aksi dengan service learning. Setelah kegiatan tutorial dilaksanakan khalayak sasaran mendapatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan terbaru mengenai Shodo (kaligrafi Jepang). Hasil dari kegiatan ini peserta dapat memahami teknik kaligrafi kanji tingkat dasar yaitu kaisho, dengan fokus keterampilan empat materi yaitu menguasai teknik garis dan tome pada kanji 一, kanji 十. Kemudian menguasai teknik membuat garis kombinasi antara horizontal dan vertikal, dapat membuat hidari harai dan hane pada kanji 口dan kanji 行. Peserta juga dapat menguasai teknik membuat kagi hane pada kanji 円、kanji 先 dan menguasai teknik membuat migi harai pada kanji 本 dan kanji 永.  Selain itu berdasarkan jawaban kuesioner sekitar 60% peserta juga menunjukkan minat tinggi terhadap kaligrafi Jepang dan menyatakan ingin belajar materi tambahan mengenai kaligrafi kanji Jepang.
