Abstract

Daerah Batu Busuk, Kelurahan Lambung Bukit Kecamatan Pauh, Kotamadya Padang merupakan salah satu sentra produksi buah durian di kota Padang. Pada saat musim besar atau panen raya (in season) yang bisa berlangsung selama 1 bulan, produksi durian yang dihasilkan dari Batu Busuk diperkirakan mencapai 250–400 ton selama satu musim sedangkan pada musim panen “salek” atau panen kedua diperkirakan mencapai 150–250 ton.Walaupun nama durian Batu Busuk sudah terkenal dan banyak dicari oleh pencinta durian pada saat musim durian, namun demikian hingga kini belum ada upaya untuk mengangkat durian Batu Busuk sebagai buah identitas atau ikon kota Padang selain dari bengkuang. Juga belum ada upaya mengangkat daerah Batu Busuk sendiri sebagai kampung durian yang tidak hanya menghasilkan buah durian yang dijual keluar daerah, namun juga memiliki berbagai produk olahan hasil durian. Upaya yang dilakukan baru sejauh pemberian bantuan bibit durian oleh pemerintah daerah. Langkah awal untuk mengangkat nama durian Batu Busuk adalah membenahi identitas varietas durian Batu Busuk, karena sampai sekarang karakteristik dari durian Batu Busuk yang sesungguhnya tidak jelas. Tanaman yang sudah dikarakterisasi juga perlu diperbanyak agar kedepan, buah yang dihasilkan oleh kelurahan Batu Busuk adalah buah dengan karakter unggul tertentu. Masyarakat atau petani yang menanam durian juga perlu memiliki keahlian memperbanyak durian unggulnya. Penerapan ipteks yang akan dilakukan pada kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini menggunakan beberapa metode antara lain penyuluhan dan diskusi grup, demonstrasi dan pelatihan perbanyakan vegetatif melalui teknik sambung baik sambung pucuk (topgrafting)dan sambung matatunas(okulasi) serta demplot pembibitan durian. Abstract

Planting maize hybrid varieties tolerant to acid soils offers an alternative strategy for improving maize productivity in acid soils. The objectives of this study were to evaluate and select maize hybrids for high yield potential in acid soils. Fifteen single maize hybrids derived from a 6 x 6 diallel cross, six parental inbred lines and two chek varieties were evaluated in Ultisol at UPT Farm, Andalas University. The evaluations were carried out in a RCB design with three replications. Several hybrids had high yielding potential in acidic soils as the hybrids produced higher yield compared to Sukmaraga as a tolerant check variety. The results from combining ability analysis showed the preponderance  of non-additive gene actions in the control of yield in acid soils. The hybrids performed high and significant specific combining ability and also higher mid-parent and better parent heterosis, indicating that the heterosis breeding may be rewarding. Hence, it is suggested that these promising hybrids should be further tested before it is released as new hybrid varieties.

Abstract

This research was conducted from October 2015 through March 2016 in four districts in West Sumatera. The aim of this research was to obtain initial information about the phenotypic variability of cassava accessions in West Sumatra. A survey was conducted in four centres of cassava production in West Sumatra : Koto Tangah, Padang; Batang Anai, Padang Pariaman; Pariaman Selatan, Pariaman; Tilatang Kamang, Agam. Phenotypic characterization was performed of leaves, stem, and tubers, as well as the chemical characterization of cassava tubers. The 15 cassava accessions showed narrow to wide phenotypic variability in leaf, stem and tuber characteristics. Cluster analysis based on qualitative and quantitative characteristics resulted in four groups of cassava with 50 % similarity. A similar result was found based on just quantitative characteristics, whereas using just qualitative characteristics resulted in just three groups.Keywords: Cassava, accessions, characterization, phenotypic, cluster

Kegiatan demplot pembibitan durian dan demonstrasi teknik sambung meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat mengenai propagasi durian. Kata kunci: Durian ungggul, Pendaftaran varietas, Teknologi tepat guna, Teknik sambung Development of Durian Batu Busuak, Lambung Bukit Village, Padang CityABSTRACT: Batu Busuk area, Lambung Bukit Village, Pauh Subdistrict, is one area of the centers of durian fruit production in West Sumatra. Although the Batu Busuk durian is already well-known and is sought after by durian lovers during the durian season, there is no attempt to lift the Batu Busuk durian to be known more widely. The first step to lifting the Batu Busuk durian is to fix the varieties identity of the Batu Busuk durian because until now the characteristics of the real Batu Busuk durian are not clear. Plants that have been characterized also need to be propagated so that in the future, the fruit produced by the Batu Busuk village is a fruit with certain superior characters. The community or farmers who plant durian also need to have the expertise to increase their superior durian. The application of science and technology conducted in community service activities uses several methods including counseling, demonstrations of applicationand demonstration plots of durian nurseries. The results of the activity showed the extension activities conducted succeeded in increasing the knowledge of the Batu Busuk community regarding the importance of registering durian varieties. The activities of the durian nursery demonstration plot and demonstration of connection techniques can increase the knowledge and skills of the community regarding the propagation of durian.Keywords: Superior durian, Varieties registration, Appropriate technology, Connection technique

Abstract

ABSTRAK: Alpukat Giri Maju merupakan salah satu varietas alpukat unggul lokal dari nagari Persiapan Giri Maju, kecamatan Luhak Nan Duo, Kabupaten Pasaman Barat yang direkomendasikan untuk didaftarkan sebagai varietas unggul nasional. Teknologi sambung pucuk (top grafting) dilakukan pada tanaman alpukat dengan tujuan terutama adalah untuk mendapatkan tanaman anakan yang memiliki karakteristik kualitas tanaman dan buah yang sama dengan induknya. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mendiseminasikan teknologi sambung pucuk pada masyarakat Giri Maju agar keunggulan karakter kultivar alpukat Giri Maju dapat dipertahankan. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat dilakukan sebagai salah satu bentuk kegiatan KKN-PPM Universitas Andalas tahun 2018 pada empat mitra kelompok tani. Metode kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi pembelajaran masyarakat melalui penyuluhan dan diskusi, demonstrasi dan pelatihan menyambung. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa diseminasi teknologi sambung pucuk sangat bermanfaat bagi petani dengan tingkat manfaat sebesar 98% dan sangat dibutuhkan oleh oleh sebagian besar masyarakat (95%). Kegiatan diseminasi teknologi sambung pucuk alpukat mendorong masyarakat untuk semakin membudidayakan alpukat dan mengembangkan alpukat unggul Giri Maju.Kata kunci: Alpukat, Pendaftaran Varietas, Sambung Pucuk, Diseminasi Teknologi Dissemination of Top Grafting Technology on Girimaju Avocado in Kabupaten Pasaman Barat ABSTRACT: Giri Maju’s avocado is one of the local avocado cultivars which is recommended to registered as a superior variety. This cultivar is derived from Nagari Persiapan Giri Maju, kecamatan Luhak Nan Duo, Kabupaten Pasaman Barat. Top grafting technology is applied on avocado with the objective mainly to obtain progenies that have characteristics which are similar with those of their maternal parents. The aim of activity was to disseminate top grafting technology to community in Giri Maju, hence the superiority of that cultivar could be maintained. The dissemination activities were adopted as KKN-PPM activities that have been conducted on four farmer communities in 2018. Methods of activities include community learning, demonstration of grafting techniques and training. Results of the activities are the farmers gain knowledge and skill to graft avocado. Based on statistical test using Likert analysis, the transfer technology have benefits and are useful (98%), and are needed (95%) by the community. The grafting activities encourage the community to be more intensive in cultivating avocado from Giri Maju.Keywords: Avocado, Variety Registered, Top Grafting and Technology Dissemination

Abstract

Batu Busuk merupakan kampung yang memiliki potensi ekowisata, wisata peninggalan bersejarah, agrowisata dan wisata budaya. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah mengangkat dan mempromosikan potensi wisata Batu Busuk melalui penjualan kuliner olahan dan kontes buah durian. Metode pengabdian masyarakat yang diterapkan meliputi kegiatan penyuluhan, demonstrasi, pelatihan dan pendampingan sesuai dengan jenis kegiatan yang berlangsung. Kedua kegiatan yaitu penjualan produk olahan dan kontes buah durian memberikan pengalaman baru bagi pengunjung karena unik dan tidak ditemui pada daerah tujuan wisata lainnya di Sumatera Barat. Dengan demikian kedua atraksi wisata ini dapat menjadi salah satu aktivitas promosi wisata Batu Busuk yang efektif. Seluruh wisatawan yang berkunjung menganggap penting bahwa kegiatan serupa dilakukan secara berkelanjutan. Seluruh responden (42 orang) kontes durian, baik dari stakeholder, pengunjung dan peserta kontes setuju bahwa kegiatan kontes seharusnya menjadi tanggung jawab pemerintah daerah, sehingga di masa mendatang pemerintah daerah sudah harus mengambil peran yang lebih besar untuk kemajuan wisata Batu Busuk. Kata kunci: agrowisata, atraksi, keberlanjutan, kuliner, promosi ABSTRACT Batu Busuk is a village with the potency for nature tourism, historical heritage, agro-tourism and culture tourism. This activity aims to raise and promote the tourism potency of Batu Busuk through the sale of processed culinary delights and a durian fruit contest. The community service method applied includes extension services, demonstrations, training and mentoring in line with ongoing activities. The two activities, namely the sale of durian processed products and the durian fruit contest, provide new experiences for visitors because they are unique and sole tourism destination in West Sumatra. Thus, these two tourist attractions can effectively promote Batu Busuk tourism activities. All tourists consider it crucial that similar activities are carried out sustainably. All respondents (42 people) of the durian contest, including stakeholders, visitors and contestants, agreed that the contest activities should become the responsibility of the local government; hence hereafter, the local government should take a more significant role in the progression of Batu Busuk tourism. Abstract

Jagung merupakan tanaman serealea yang digunakan sebagai bahan baku industri pangan dan non-pangan. Biji jagung merupakan hasil panen tanaman jagung yang biasanya dijual dalam bentuk tongkol atau pipil. Sebagai penghasil jagung utama di Sumatera Barat, belum banyak produk olahan jagung yang ditemukan di Kabupaten Pasaman Barat. Kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mendiseminasikan dan mendorong berbagai inovasi produk olahan makanan dari jagung pada masyarakat Nagari Giri Maju, Kabupaten Pasaman Barat melalui kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Dikti. Metode diseminasi teknologi yang diterapkan adalah berupa demonstrasi dan pelatihan, penyuluhan dan pendampingan masyarakat. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan yang dilakukan (1) berhasil mendiseminasikan berbagai inovasi produk makanan berbahan dasar jagung pipil dan tepung jagung, dan (2) masyarakat baru mampu berinovasi menghasilkan produk olahan jagung yang memiliki daya tahan/simpan yang rendah. Perlu dukungan pemerintah daerah dan partisipasi aktif masyarakat untuk keberlanjutan program menjadikan kabupaten Pasaman Barat tidak hanya sebagai penghasil jagung tetapi juga penghasil produk makanan olahan berbahan dasar jagung. Kata kunci: Diversifikasi, Jagung pipil, Nilai tambah, Produk olahan jagung ABSTRACT Corn is an important cereal crop used as the raw material of food and non-food industries. Grain kernel is the harvest of corn plants. As the leading producer of corn in West Sumatera, there are not many processed corn products found in West Pasaman Regency. The community empowerment aimed to disseminate and encourage various innovations processed food products from corn in the Nagari Giri Maju, West Pasaman Regency, through the activities of KKN Dikti. The method of dissemination of technology applied is a demonstration, in-house training, community learning and assistance. Results showed that activities conducted (1) successfully disseminated various innovations of food products based on corn kernel and cornflour, and (2) the community was able to produce corn-processed products that have a low durability/shelf life. To sustain the program that makes the West Pasaman regency as the producer of processed corn products need local government support and active participation of the community. Abstract

Maize is the main cash crop in intercropping system applied for replanting of palm oil which is expected to be the main source of income before palm oil crops produce. The transfer of maize cultivation technology in small holder palm oil plantation is aimed at increasing production of maize without harming the main crops and maintaining the productivity of land and the environment. Increased income can also be done through efforts to increase the added value of maize seeds into various food products. KKN-PPM activities that took place in Nagari Persiapan Girimaju, Luhak Nan Duo sub-district, West Pasaman district from June to August 2018 aimed to transfer maize production technology that is environmentally friendly and to transfer knowledge and skills in increasing the value added of maize into various food and other processed products. Results obtained from the KKN activities were (1) the community was able to apply maize production technology which was synergized with cattle farming, (2) there was an increase in the efficiency of maize production through introduction of maize sheller machine, (3) the community was able to produce a variety of maize-based food products and ( 4) the formation of new UMKMs in the location. The results of statistical analysis using a Likert scale gave an index value of 0.99 on the impact/benefits of KKN, indicating that KKN-PPM activities were categorized as very successful and benefited to the community, and gave an index value of 0.95 for the performance of KKN team, indicating that KKN-PPM team had sufficient competency and suitability knowledge with the program conducted.

Abstract

Soybeans undergo rapid deterioration due to its chemical composition and unfavourable storage conditions. The objective of the research was to determine the length period of seed hidration and dehydration which is integrated with rhizobateri to viability and vigor of deteriorated soybean seed. A completely randomized design with four replicates were used in this experiment. Seeds were treated with varied combination of hydration period in a rhizobacteria suspension and followed by dehydration time. Data were analysed using the F-test and significant differences were further tested with Least Significant Difference at the 5% level. Results showed that the hydration and dehydration period of seeds in a rhizobacteria suspension improved viability and vigor of seed which have 59.5% initial germination percentage. The improvement was 12.28%, 0.56, 25.4% and 1.4 days for standard germination test, vigor index, first count test percentage and T50, respectively. The hydration for 60 minutes followed by dehydration for 60 minutes gave the best results on seed viability and vigor.

Abstract

Okra is a functional vegetable with good nutritional content and medicinal benefits. The red okra cultivar has a lot of fruit in a single plant but have a short harvest period, thus the weight and size of the fruit are small. One of the techniques in the improvement of okra cultivar is performed by hybridization with the introduced okra varieties that have a longer harvest period. The objective of the research is to evaluate the crosses between red okra with the introduced okra varieties and to obtain plants from the crosses that have a longer fruit harvest period character. The research was conducted at the Research Station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from Mei to October 2019. The materials used are the local red okra genotype, Ve-022, and B-291 introduced varieties as well as two of the crosses population of SOMB291 and SOMVe022. The whole plant is a red okra cultivar and the crosses are planted in a plot with a spacing of 40 x 50 cm. The performance of the crosses was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed that the plant obtained with a longer harvest period of 8 days after anthesis as much as 19 and 12%, respectively in the population of SOMB291 and SOMVe022. The increase in crop life in plants from the somb291 and somve022 populations resulted in a plant that has a greater length, diameter, and weight than the red okra population. The increase in the harvest period results in a greater length, diameter, and weight of fruit.
