Abstract

Intercropping of maize, rice and cassava is commonly practiced by subsistent farmers on rainfed agriculture in Indonesia. In general, grain yield (if maize in intercropping is lower than in monoculture sole crop. This due to the fact that maize varieties planted in intercropping was bred and selected under elite, monoculture crop environment. Field experiments to evaluate grain yield relative stability (if the three selected maize breeding materials planted in association with rice and cassava were carried out In Pekalongan (Lampung), December 1994 - September 1995. All three breeding materials are relatively stable in respect to grain yield. Individual selection in MC-1 population will be practiced in association with rice and cassava.

Abstract

Intercropping of Maize, Rice and Cassava is commonly practiced by subsistent farmers on upland agriculture in Indonesia. In general, grain yield of maize under intercropping is very much lower than under monoculture crop. This due to the fact that the variety of maize planted under intercrop was bred and selected under elite, monoculture crop condition. Three field experiments to screen maize breeding materials planted in association with rice and cassava were carried out in Pekalongan (Lampung), October 1993 - November 1994. Three out of 29 entry of maize were selected, MC-1 (optimistic), Wiyasa (neutral) and ICS1 Arj15F (pessimistic). Performance test on grain yield relative stability for three selected materials have to be done before practicing any form of improvement by means of selection.

Abstract

Empat kultivar hibrida (Semar8, Semar9, Semar10, dan Bima1) bersama dengan tetua dari masing-masing hibrida (Mr4, Mr9, Mr10, Mr11, Mr12, Mr13, Mr-14, dan GM15), sebagai kultivar hibrida komersial di Indonesia, telah disidik jari dengan menggunakan 26 marka SSR. Tiga kultivar pertama merupakan hibrida hasil silang tiga jalur, sedangkan satu yang terakhir adalah hibrida silang tunggal. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk megetahui kemurnian genetik hibrida-hibrida tersebut bersama tetua pembentuknya masing-masing. Hasil analisis klaster berdasarkan kemiripan Jaccard mengelompokkan inbrida ke dalam dua klaster, kecuali inbrida Mr13 dan Mr14 yang tidak masuk ke dalam salah satu dari kedua kedua klaster tersebut. Selanjutnya, berhasil diidentifikasi tiga galur tetua yang mempunyai tingkat heterosigositas 20% yaitu Mr9, Mr12, dan Mr13. Dari total 26 marka SSR yang dianalisis, terpilih 10 marka SSR (phi109275, phi96100, phi374118, phi072, phi109188, phi299852, phi328175, phi233376, phi065, and umc1196), yang mempunyai tingkat polimorfisme tinggi dan menyebar pada seluruh genom jagung, yang dapat dipertimbangkan untuk digunakan dalam sidik jari materi hibrida jagung yang lain. Semua galur tetua dalam penelitian ini dapat dibedakan secara jelas dengan menggunakan kesepuluh marka SSR tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, marka SSR dapat dimanfaatkan dalam menentukan kemurnian genetik dan tingkat heterosigositas dari hibrida jagung beserta tetuanya.
