Abstract

This research aims to analyze the management of zakat (Islamic almsgiving) at BAZNAS (National Amil Zakat Agency) in Magelang District, focusing on the processes of zakat collection and distribution from muzakki (zakat payer) to mustaḥik (zakat recipient). Employing a qualitative method, this study utilizes both primary and secondary data. The findings reveal adherence to prevailing legal regulations in zakat management at BAZNAS in Magelang District. Planning involves budgeting in the Annual Zakat Collection and Distribution Plan (RKAT) and conducting awareness campaigns to enhance zakat payment consciousness. Organizational structure aligns with the Magelang District Chief's decree, while implementation comprises zakat collection and distribution phases. The majority of zakat funds are sourced from civil servants (ASN) in Magelang District and distributed among 8 beneficiary groups. Supporting factors in zakat management include official directives from the Magelang District Chief, contributions from village officials, and the success of developmental initiatives in zakat collection. However, there are inhibiting factors such as the rise in retired civil servants (ASN) and the transfer of supervision of state high schools from the district government to the provincial government.

Abstract

This study analyzes the application of Islamic business ethics by street vendors and consumer perceptions at sholawatan events in Magelang Regency, and its relation to income improvement. Employing a mixed-methods approach with questionnaires given to 50 vendors and 50 consumers, complemented by in-depth interviews, the research measures adherence to four Naqvi's ethical principles: Unity, Equilibrium, Free Will, and Responsibility. Results indicate that street vendors predominantly apply Islamic business ethics (100% on Unity and Responsibility, 92% Equilibrium, 85% Free Will), which is also perceived positively by most consumers. This ethical application is proven to contribute to vendors' income improvement through building trust and a positive reputation. This study not only provides a comprehensive understanding of business ethics practices in the religious-based informal sector but also fills a literature gap regarding microeconomic case studies in the context of local religious culture, offering a practical reference for vendors to achieve blessings and business sustainability.

Abstract

Purpose–The objectives of this study are to explain how BMT Atina implements ijarah and murabahah contracts, evaluate if these contracts correspond with the DSN-fatwa MUI, and investigate the difficulties and solutions BMT encounters when executing these contracts. Methodology–This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to investigate the implementation of ijarah (lease) and murabahah (sale with a profit margin) agreements, and to evaluate whether their execution complies with Sharia principles, as per the fatwa published by the DSN-MUI. Findings–Fatwa DSN-MUI No. 112/2017 implemented the ijarah and murabahah contracts at BMT Atina by clearly and honestly negotiating the rental object, term, and payment amount (ujrah). Buying the products initially and then selling them to consumers at an agreed price, including a profit margin, is clearly and openly permitted by Fatwa DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 04/2000. Implications – The findings may provide a model for other BMTs or Sharia-compliant financial companies seeking to enhance their funding options in line with Sharia principles while maintaining effectiveness. Originality – This study has original worth because it centres on a particular case study of one BMT in the Banyubiru area that has not been thoroughly explored. Simultaneously, it analyzes two important Sharia financing agreements: ijarah and murabahah. It entails interviews with several stakeholders (managers and consumers) for a more thorough viewpoint.

Abstract

This study reviews the causes and handling of problematic murabahah financing at BMT Barokah Salaman, including terminating financing as a last resort. The research method used is qualitative, with case studies through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The research findings indicate that external factors, such as a decline in business income, and internal factors, such as weak feasibility analysis and inadequate financial education, are the causes of problematic financing. In terminating murabahah financing, this strategy is the last resort when members consistently fail to meet their obligations and peaceful approaches are no longer effective. The termination process includes evaluation, sending warning letters, final settlement meetings with members and their families, enforcing collateral, terminating financing relationships, recording them in an internal blocklist, and transparent documentation and reporting. This strategy is implemented by upholding the principles of fairness, careful consideration, and protecting all parties without causing injustice. This study emphasizes the importance of strong and humane risk management in maintaining the sustainability of Sharia microfinance institutions.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the application of the principles of Enveromental, social, Governance (ESG) in the investment of Indonesian Islamic banks (BSI) in terms of maqashid syariah perspective. Methodology – The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data sources used come from secondary data in the form of annual reports, industry reports, and online news. In addition, the research data also comes from various articles published in scientific journals. Findings – The results of this study indicate that there is a strong alignment between the principles of ESG and Maqashid sharia in investment activities carried out by Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). The alignment of these two concepts creates an investment model that is not only focused on financial gain but also oriented towards mutual benefit and environmental preservation. This research identifies the ESG principles in the investments made by BSI in line with maqashid sharia for the protection of life (hifs al-nafs), reason (hifz al-aqal), property (hifz al-maal), religion (hifz al-din) and offspring (hifz al-nas). Implications – The implication of this research is that the ESG principle in investment activities if done properly does not conflict with the maqashid syariah principle. Originality – This research provides a new perspective on the alignment between ESG principles and maqashid sharia. The results of this study provide data support that these two concepts complement each other, so that investments do not only consider financial returns.
