Abstract

This study aims at investigating the use of digital hangman game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery in teaching narrative text at tenth grade at one of Islamic Senior High School in Padamulya Ciamis, Indonesia. The writers used convergent parallel mixed methods design as a method of the study because the convergent parallel mixed method is a form of mixed-method design in which the researcher converges quantitative and qualitative data in order to provide a comprehensive analysis. Experimental research was used in this study. Moreover, the data in this study were collected from several sources including achievement tests, questionnaires, and observation. The result showed that t-observe was 10.992 and t-critical at df=19 on level 0.05 with a two-tailed test was 2.093, which means that t-critical was less than t-observe and alternative hypotheses were accepted. Thus, the students generally pleased with the teaching narrative text by using the digital hangman game. Furthermore, almost the students gave their good responses to the implementation of the game. For further researchers, it gives broad opportunities in making this study more complete in the same field with a different interest such as how to teach narrative text through other strategies. Keywords: Hangman Game, Vocabulary, Narrative Text

Abstract

Learning activities during pandemics present new challenges in Indonesian education, especially in applying character education in elementary schools. This study aims to develop appropriate and effective learning media to instill character education during online learning. The learning media developed is in the form of whiteboard animation proclamation-based. This development consists of nine stages of development of Dick and Carey. Research data was obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The feasibility of the Whiteboard Animation Proclamation-Based results was obtained through a product assessment questionnaire from a material expert, a media expert, a language expert, and classroom teachers. Meanwhile, the test results were obtained from a responsequestionnaire to 50 fourth-grade students in Cimahi. The validation results show that the Whiteboard Animation Proclamation-Based is feasible from assessing the material aspect with an average of 4.45. The media aspect is also considered very feasible with an average of 4.67, and the language aspect is feasible with an average of 4.54. The results obtained from practitioners also get very decent criteria with an average of 4.67. The results of small and large-scale trials received an average of 100% with very good criteria. This development concludes that the Proclamation-Based Whiteboard Animation developed is very good enough to be used as a learning media to support online learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) in the short story reading skills of fourth grade elementary school students. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collected by interview, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the direct reading thinking activity (DRTA) model was carried out through three stages, namely pre-reading activities, reading activities and post-reading activities. In pre-reading activities, the teacher provides a stimulus by showing pictures and giving clues to the title of short story, so that students can be directly oriented in predicting. In reading activities, the teacher gives freedom to students to read the text and begins to equate with the results of student predictions. In post-reading activities the teacher gives freedom to students to convey the results of predictions about the contents of short story that have been made orally.

Abstract

The determining factors for the success of the learning process are students and the teacher/lecturer as the person most responsible for implementing the learning process. This study aimed to describe the process of learning reflection as the professional development of Elementary School Teacher Education (ESTE) lecturers based on Didactical Design Research (DDR) in learning the Elementary Science Basic Concepts course. The method used in this research is qualitative. The research design used is phenomenology. This research was conducted at the ESTE Study Program, one of the tertiary institutions in Cimahi City. The participants in this study were an ESTE lecturer. Data collection techniques used in this study were participant observation, interviews, and focus group discussions. The data analysis technique used was Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results showed that there were several learning obstacles in the form of epistemological obstacles, which occurred due to students' lack of knowledge related to the concepts they were learning and caused students to experience misconceptions. Then a hypothetical learning trajectory is compiled as a series of learning paths that students go through to achieve more meaningful learning goals. The limitation in this study is that the analysis of each step in the DDR process has not been fully described, so that for further research each step can be clearly described to see a more real impact from the lecturer professional development process that has been implemented.
