Abstract

The reason of this consider was to decide the sorts of social media utilized by fourth-semester students of the Department of English Literature, Universitas Negeri Medan, for learning English. The analyst utilized clear subjective inquire about, and the information were collected using a questionnaire. The participants were 50 students of the Department of English Letters, Muria Kudus University. The results showed that the social media used by students to learn English were YouTube (94%), Instagram (72%), WhatsApp (62%), Twitter (32), Facebook (30%), Line (10%), Google (2%), TikTok (2%).

Abstract

This study attempts to improve students’ achievement in vocabulary by using Twitter and Instagram multimedia. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-2 SMP FREE METHODIST 2 Medan which consisted of 40 students. The research was conducted in two cycles, cycle I of four meeting and cycle II consisted of two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data namely vocabulary test and qualitative data namely, observation sheet and questionnaire. .Based on quantitative data, in vocabulary test, students score kept improving in every test of vocabulary. The finding of this is Twitter and Instagram multimedia can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. It can be prove from the calculation of test in both of cycles. The mean of pre test is 59. The students who got higher than 75 is 10%. The mean of post test cycle I is 75,75 and students who got higher than 75 is 26 students 65%. Te post test average on post test is 89,5, all of them 100% got higher than standard minimum. There is an improvement of the application of twitter and instagram multimedia to teach vocabulary in eight grade of SMP FREE METHODIST 2 Medan. Based on observation sheet and questionnaire sheet it was found that the students were active and enthusiastic in learning vocabulary by using twitter and instagram multmedia. The result of the research showed that twitter and instagram multimedia significantly improved students. Keywords: Vocabulary Achievement, Twitter, Instagram

Abstract

The goal of this review is to look into “Exploration of the Folklore Tongkat Tunggal Panaluan” as reading materials for high school students. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method in this study, which aims to describe systematically, actually, and factually using words and sentences. From January to October 2022, the research will be conducted. Interview techniques and data documentations were used to collect data.. Techniques for data analysis that use interactive analysis, such as reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research strategy consists Because of the mystical element in the stick, research from folklore “Tongkat Tunggal Panaluan” was formed, the stick contained the face carvings of seven humans and several animal carvings. The datu-datu typically employs the stick. The stick measures approximately 150-200 cm in length

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the effectiveness of whisper race games strategy in improving the students' ability on listening. This research is a classroom action research. The action research was conducted in two cycles, each of which involved planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research was the first year students of MTS Al-Washliyah Batang Serangan. The subject of this research was 37 students in class VII. The technique of collecting data were interview, document, observation and test. After analyzing the data, it was found out that the students' score increased from pretest until post test of cycle I and cycle II. It means there is an improvement on the students ability on listening through whisper race game strategy. It was shown from the improvement of the means of students' score namely the mean of post test of cycle I (66.75) was higher than the mean of the students' score in pretest (46.75) and the mean of cycle II (79.45) was higher than the mean of the students’ score in post test I. It can be seen that the score continuously improved from the pre-test until the post test of cycle 2. And for the presentation in post test I 29.73% was higher than pre test 5.40% and the post test II 62.16% it was higher than pre test and post test 1. From the hypothesis data computation that t-count =9.27 and t-table df-N-1= 37-1=36. It can be seen that coefficient of  t-count = 9.27 with the fact level a = 0.05 which the real level of t –table =2,02 in the coefficient of t-count (9.27)>t-count  = (2.02). Thus, the hypothesis is acceptable. Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of elucidating the “improving students’ writing ability by using dictation method of descriptive text. The purpose of this study is to analyze students’ writing ability by using dictation method of descriptive text. This research was conducted at SMP Mayjend Sutoyo SM Medan. There were 25 students in class VII. This study is used a writing test instrument. There were 10 questions that the researchers gave tp grade 7 students from and after the dictation activity of descriptive text.This can be seen from the average student score answer was 51.6% Yes and 48.4% No. This indicates a change in attitude after learning with the dictation method. Interestingly, students expressed a preference for the dictation method because it was considered to facilitate writing descriptive texts, improve focus, and instill joy in the writing process. Overall, the pretest, observation, interview, and posttest results provided a comprehensive overview of the initial challenges, developments during learning, and changes in students' attitudes toward the dictation method. Despite facing initial uncertainty and difficulties, the dictation method proved to be an effective approach in enhancing students' understanding and interest in writing descriptive texts.

Abstract

Background. Online learning is a learning system that is not conducted face-to-face between teachers and students. Preference is a tendency made for one thing compared to another. Therefore, one's view on online learning will also vary. The quality and quantity of learning materials that are in accordance with the curriculum, standards, competencies, and student needs will differentiate students' preferences for online learning. Purpose This research aims to find out the reasons why students prefer online learning or not, and also to find out the factors that significantly influence the effectiveness of online learning. On the other hand, to analyse the appropriate strategy used in the use of media so that it is suitable for learning and can also be accessed by all individuals. Method. The method used in this research is quantitative. A method in which data is collected in the form of testable numbers. The data obtained is the number of responses. The data is obtained from the distribution of questionnaires containing questions regarding the analysis of factors affecting students' preferences for online learning. The statement presented in the questionnaire is a form of google form. The data will be processed through the oneway anova test on the SPSS application which was previously imported into excel. Results. The result of this study states that online learning can be done in schools. Online learning is also a way of learning without face-to-face in sharing information or communicating. Online learning has advantages and disadvantages depending on various factors that influence students' preferences for online learning. In addition, it also provides a strategic overview for teachers and students of the situation and what things will be prepared later. Conclusion This research can be concluded that the preference or choice of each student is different depending on how he/she views the subject. Online learning can be run effectively with good cooperation. Online learning will be implemented if there is support from all parties, be it students, teachers, parents, and even schools. Adjustment in learning is also easier for female students than male students.
