Abstract

Reading comprehension skill seems to be a complecated subject for students time to time. Teachers as the one who must train studentsto master the skill, keep struggling to utter the problem. This condition need teachers to find out probable solutions. One possiblesolution is by using specific strategy in taching, like the one called Read, Cover, Remember, Retell (RCRR). The purpose of thisresearch is to determine the effect of using Read, Cover, RCRR Strategy on students’ reading comprehension skill. The study isdesigned in quasi experimental method. The subjects of this research were students of English study program ofMuhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. In collecting data, researchers used a test. Result of the study shows that there was anincreasing scores on students’ reading comprehension skill who were taught by using RCRR. Based on the study done byresearchers, RCRR has brought positive effect on students reading comprehension skill. Therefore, the strategy is recommended to be used to teach reading comprehension in classes.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the Students' Problems in Understanding "Language Assessment and Evaluation Material. The result of this research, the students in 8th semester had problems in understanding materials: 1). the problems in understanding reliability by using Cronbach Alpha materials, 2). the problems in understanding the Normal Curve and Conversion of the Score materials, and 3). the problems in understanding reliability by using (Kuder – Richardson Formula 20 and 21) KR – 20 and 21 materials. I hope that the  researcher expected to help students later to be more active in learning language assessment and evaluation of material subjects. For the further researcher, especially English students who are going to conduct the research with the new title, like “student's efforts. Key word: Problems in understanding materials.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out what are students’ perception toward supervisor’s written feedback in writing thesis proposal. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this research were 20 students of eighth semester students who are preparing thesis proposal in 2021 Academic Year in English Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The researcher used observation checklist adapted from Wolflok's theory. The researcher used photos sent via WhatsApp media by 8th semester students as the subject of this study. The researcher used descriptive method to analyze the data. The result of this study showed that the perception of students in the feedback provided by the supervisor really helped them in correcting errors in a thesis proposal writing, especially when the supervisor provided constructive motivation in the form of suggestions or solutions. There were 4 types of feedback given by the supervisor when conducting guidance namely comments, circles and underlines, mark and correct and other signs. Abstract

This research was aimed to describe the causes of anxiety faced by students in delivering English presentation material on Webinar in Seminar class and to describe the strategies used by students to overcome the anxiety in delivering English presentation material on Webinar in Seminar class. This research was a quantitative research. Subject of the research was the whole students of English Language Education Study Program of UMB Academic Year 2020/2021 who has delivered English presentation material on Webinar in Seminar Class on January 4th – 10th, 2021. The total subjects are 57 students. The instruments of this research were questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire was divided into two kinds; causes of anxiety and the strategies to overcome anxiety. The questionnaire of strategies used by students to overcome anxiety in presentation is adapted from Kondo & Ling (2004) who divided the strategies into preparation, relaxation, positive thinking, peer seeking, and knowing our audience (resignation). Moreover, to reconfirm the result of questionnaire the researcher did interview to 10 students who got much anxiety while delivering the presentation on Webinar class. There are two findings of this research; first, the causes of anxiety faced by students in delivering English presentation material on Webinar in Seminar class were (1) Webinar as the first online presentation; (2) the time to prepare is to short; (3) the material is not appropriate to the theme choosen; (4) the lecturers join the webinar; (5) Less knowledge related to the material; (6) Lack in Grammar; (7) Speaking full in English; (8) Lack of Pronounciation; (9) Fear of Negative Evaluation; (10) Being Center of Attention. Moreover, the most dominant causes was Fear of Negative Evaluation; Second, the strategies used by students to overcome the anxiety in delivering English presentation material on Webinar in Seminar class were preparation, relaxation, positive thinking, peer seeking, and knowing our audience (resignation).
