Abstract

Marine organisms, in particular nudibranchs (Mollusca: nudibranchia), are known as a rich source of chemically diverse secondary metabolites exhibiting potential as antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anticancer activity. We presented the chemical investigation of an extract of nudibranch Hypselodoris infucata collected from Bali, an unexplored water but rich in nudibranch diversity. The extract contained the known (–)-furodysinin (1), a furanosesquiterpene that for the first time isolated from this species. Metabolite 1 was purified by chromatography and the structure was characterised by comparison of 1H NMR data with that of the reported data. The absolute configuration was determined by comparing the optical rotation values with the known enantiomer. In vitro cytotoxic activity of compound 1 against HeLa cell line displayed an IC50 at 102.7µg/mL. We also report for the first time the development of a method to assay nudibranch extracts for their feeding deterrence activity against local shrimps Penaeus vannamei. The extract show food rejection with highly significant difference in respect to the control (P = 0.0061) at natural concentration of 3.0mg/mL.Keywords: nudibranch, natural product, feeding deterrence, Hypselodoris

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahuigolongan senyawa yang terdapat dalam ekstrak aseton daun kelor dan ujiaktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak aseton daun kelor (Moringa oleifera). Sampeldaun kelor yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berasal dari Kecamatan Seririt,Buleleng. Secara khusus, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui golongansenyawa antioksidan yang terkandung dalam ekstrak aseton daun kelor; (2)mengetahui keberadaan aktivitas antioksidan dalam ekstrak aseton daun kelor; (3) mengetahui kekuatan aktivitas antioksidan yang terkandung dalam ekstrak aseton daun kelor dengan menghitung nilai IC 50 . Teknik ekstraksi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah maserasi dengan menggunakan pelarut aseton. Hasil maserasi tersebut kemudian diuapkan menggunakan rotary evaporator sehingga diperoleh ekstrak kental sebanyak 11,5684 g. Aktivitas antioksidan diuji menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis pada panjang gelombang 517 nm. Analisis kekuatan antioksidan dilakukan dengan menghitung nilai IC 50 yang didasarkan pada persentase peredaman radikal bebas DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) oleh sampel uji. Kekuatan antioksidan ditentukan berdasarkan perbandingan nilai IC 50 dari sampel ekstrak aseton daun kelor dengan nilai IC 50 vitamin C. Hasil skrining fitokimia terhadap ekstrak aseton daun kelor menunjukkan indikasi kuat adanya senyawa golongan alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, dan steroid. Adanya penurunan absorbansi DPPH pada setiap kenaikan konsentrasi dari sampel uji terhadap blanko mengindikasikan adanya aktivitas antioksidan pada ekstrak aseton daun kelor. Berdasarkan perhitungan nilai IC 50 diperoleh hasil bahwa nilai IC 50 dari ekstrak aseton daun kelor sebesar 427,49 µg/mL sedangkan nilai IC 50 dari vitaminC adalah 35,52 µg/mL. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak aseton daun kelormemiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang lemah dibanding vitamin C.

Abstract

Kaempferia galanga is a tropical plant with an impressive range of food and medicinal uses. This study, therefore, investigated the variation in yields, physicochemical properties, chemical compositions, and antioxidant activities of rhizome oils from two K. galanga varieties, K. galanga bigger rhizomes (V1) and K. galanga smaller rhizomes (V2), isolated by steam distillation (S) and maceration (M) techniques. The air-dried rhizomes' oil contents were found to be 2.81±0.09% (SV1O), 7.93±0.20% (MV1O), 3.60±0.10% (SV2O), and 8.76±0.22% (MV2O), respectively. From the GC-MS analysis, the SV1O, MV1O, SV2O, and MV2O samples contain 49, 48, 61, and 56 compounds, respectively. Furthermore, ethyl trans-p-methoxycinnamate was the most prevalent chemical constituent in four oils with a percentage contribution of 43.37% (SV1O), 60.62% (MV1O), 24.92% (SV2O), and 57.17% (MV2O). Several long-chain alcohols (6Z,9Z-pentadeca-6,9-dien-1-ol, 9E,12E-octadeca-9,12-dien-1-ol, heptadecan-1-ol), aldehyde (Z-octadec-9-enal), carboxylic acids (4-(4-methoxyphenyl)oxane-4-carboxylic acid, hexadecanoic acid), diterpene sandaracopimaradiene, steroid ergosterol, and alkaloid 2-imino-3-(3-nitrophenyl)-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one, were also identified in K. galanga rhizome oils isolated by maceration method. In addition, all oils showed high antioxidant activities with the IC50 values of 86.10±1.51, 85.24±1.48, 89.19±1.72, and 86.49±2.03 μg/mL for SV1O, MV1O, SV2O, and MV2O, respectively.

Abstract

This report presented the characterisation of white cement and TiO2-immobilised white cement prior and after photodegradation treatment. The study was also aimed at measuring the effectiveness of catalyst that was used during the photodegradation at various different reaction times. The characteristic of the white cement was evaluated by XRD, meanwhile the effectiveness of the catalyst was inferred from COD values. The results indicated that the white cement formed crystals with highest peak at 2ϴ 29.7990° and crystal size of 0.63140 nm. In addition, the highest peak of the TiO2-immobilized white cement before and after photodegradation was 2ϴ 29.4634° (crystal size 0.79209 nm) and 29.4735° (crystal size 0.64061 nm) respectively. Moreover, dissolved organic matter in landfill leachate reduced during the seven-hour photodegradation experiment as indicated by the decrease of 71.43% of the COD values.

Abstract

The preparation of 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl imidazole by using triethylamine as an effective phase‐transfer catalyst (PTC) under mild biphasic conditions has been studied intensively. The method can be used for large-scale preparation with high purity and high yield of 4-methylbenzene-sulfonyl imidazole. The result in 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl imidazole has been successfully applied for the regioselective synthesis of mono-6-(4-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-β-cyclodextrin in an aqueous medium. This synthetic methodology concept, together with the synthetic versatility of PTC, provides a general and reliable general strategy for the practical and industrial regioselective synthesis of highly valuable mono-6-(4-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-β-cyclodextrin as a key intermediate for the single functional isomer mono-substituted cyclodextrin derivatives. As characterized by FTIR, NMR and mass spectrometry, mono-6-(4-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-β-cyclodextrin was obtained in high purity.

Abstract

Bhakta Veda Poshana Ashram (VPA) Cabang Singaraja telah terlatih hidup vegetarian, tetapi banyak belum terampil membuat masakan vegetarian.  Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mereka dalam membuat tum vegetarian. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metode pelatihan, yang meliputi diskusi dan praktek, serta pendampingan. Jenis tum vegetarian yang dihasilkan berbahan baku gluten dengan bumbu masakan tradisional Bali. Produk tum vegetarian yang dihasilkan memiliki bentuk, aroma, tekstur, dan rasa yang sangat sesuai dengan selera masyarakat Bali, serta bebas kolesterol dan bibit penyakit yang biasa terbawa dalam daging hewan. Keterampilan khalayak sasaran   dalam membuat gluten dari tepung terigu dan membuat bumbu masakan vegetarian tergolong baik.  Kualitas tum vegetarian yang dihasilkan selama proses pelatihan tergolong sangat baik ditinjau dari bentuk, aroma, tekstur, warna, dan rasanya.  Kondisi itu menunjukkan keterampilan khalayak sasaran dalam membuat tum vegetarian tergolong sangat baik.  Sejalan dengan keberhasilan proses dan produk kegiatan pelatihan ini, peserta pelatihan menyambut positif kegiatan P2M ini karena panitia dan pelatih dinilai telah melaksanakan tugas-tugasnya dengan profesional dan humanis. Kegiatan pengabdian ini sangat bermanfaat bagi khalayak sasaran karena dapat membuka peluang bisnis kuliner vegetarian khas Bali, termasuk pada masa dan setelah pandemi Covid-19.
