Subjects were purposively sampled based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were subsequently randomly sampled. Subjects filled in (1) curriculum vitae form, (2) L-MMPI questionnaire to find out the respondents truthfulness in filling in the questionnaire, and (3) T-MAS questionnaire to measure the anxiety score. Subjects were excluded when their L-MMPI scores were ≥ 10 or did not fill in the questionnaire completely. Data were analyzed by Chi-square test using SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Result: Analysis from eighty subjects showed a X2 value of 0.341, (p=0.599), meaning that there was no difference of anxiety level between regular and accelerated students at SMP Negeri 1 Wonogiri. Conclusion: There was no evidence of anxiety level differences between regular and accelerated students iat SMP Negeri 1 Wonogiri. Keywords: Regular program, Acceleration program, Anxiety

Abstract

Background: Anxiety can be experienced by students, especially during preparation for the national examination. Brain performance in learning among students with high anxiety will more likely to degrade. Anxiety can further cause emotion disturbance, sleeping interference, appetite and physical fitness decrease, hence increasing the possibility of failing the final exam. These problems can be anticipated by early identification, regulation, and management of the emotion disturbance. This study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional quotient with anxiety among high school students preparing the national examination. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using descriptive and analytical approach. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung, Brebes, and purposively sampled 12th grade students in 2011/2012 school year. EQ scores were measured using EQ scale, while anxiety scores were measured using TMAS scale. Data were processed using SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Results: Of 287 eligible samples, only 51 students met the inclusion criteria. Analysis from Pearson’s product moment correlation showed an r value of -0,681 (p< 0.001). Conclusions: There was a negative relationship between emotional quotient with anxiety among students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung, Brebes preparing the 2012 national examination. Abstract

Background: One of keys to success during adolescence is determined by the educa-tional achievements. Post-secondary students tend to find ways and reasons to be more advanced and motivated obtaining better achievement than before. At tertiary level education including university, assessment of academic achievements is expressed by Grade Point Average (GPA). Achieving cum laude title when graduated from a university which requires a final GPA of above 3,50 is desirable by many students. This study aim to evaluate the difference of anxiety levels among undergraduate students at final year with GPA below 3,50 and above 3,50 to achieve cum laude title. Methods: The study was an analytical observational study using cross-sectional design, held in July 2012 at Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. Samples were selected using purposive sampling method. Samples were then asked to fill in: (1) Curriculum vitae form, (2) L-MMPI questionnaire (to evaluate their thruthfulness in answering questionnaires), (3) T-MAS questionnaire (to measure anxiety scores). Data were analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and the independent t-test using SPSS 17,0 for Windows. Results: Sixty-six medical students participated in this study. The mean anxiety scores of students with GPA below 3,50 was 21,51 ± 6,87, as for those with GPA above 3,50 was 18,65 ± 4,77. Result from independent t-test showed no statistically significant difference of anxiety scores between the two groups (p = 0,118). Conclusion: There was no difference of anxiety levels among final year undergraduate students whose GPA is below 3,50 and above 3,50 in order to achieve cum laude title. Methods: The study was an analytical observational research using cross sectional approach implemented in Agustus 2013 in SMA Al Islam 1 Surakarta. The sample was taken using total sampling for the entire class XII. Purposive random sampling conducted for the dormitory student that can represent the whole dormitory students and performed simple random sampling for students who live with their own biological parents according to the number of samples required (sample of dormitory students). The samples filled in ( 1 ) Curriculum vitae form, (2) L - MMPI questionnaire to find out the respondent’s truthfulness in completing the questionnaire, ( 3) BDI questionnaire to assess depression score, score ≤ 9 means no depression and score > 9 means depression. Data obtained 72 students as the subject of research and the data were foanalyzed using Chi Square test through SPSS 17.00 for Windows . Results: This research showed the Chi Square (X2) value is 0,084, while the price of X2 table on db = 1 at the 0.05 significance level is 3.481. This means that the X2 count < X2 table. In addition the p-value calculated is 0.772 or p > 0.05, then the null hypothesis is accepted. Chi-square test result’s showed that there was no significant difference of depression level between students living in dormitories and students living with their biological parents. Conclusion: There was no difference of depression level among class XII students who live in dormitories and who live with their biological parents in SMA Al Islam 1 Surakarta. Abstract

Background: One important issue in education is academic achievement. Academic achievement can lead to satisfaction and continuity for further education while academic failure can result in delay in learning or even drop out. Some factors that can affect academic result are emotional intelligence as internal factor and parent’s education level (family factor) as external factor. This study aims to prove the existence of relations among emotional intelligence, parents’ education level and academic achievement index of senior students of Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Methods: This study was an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach, held in July – August 2014 in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. The sampling method used was total sampling and selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample. The numbers of subjects in this study were 214 students. Hereafter, the data obtained were analyzed statistically by multiple linear regression test and F test. Results: The results of the F test analysis with the number of significance α = 0.05 obtained value of p < 0.05 with a regression line equation Y = 2,660 + 0,004 X1 + 0,010 X2. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship simultaneously between emotional intelligence, level of parents’ education and index of student achievement. If there is no emotional intelligence and parents’ education level, the achievement index is equal to 2.660. Index of student achievement changed by 0.004 for each unit change in the variables of emotional intelligence and changed by 0.010 for every unit change in the level of parents education variable.
