Abstract

The development and validation of chemometrics-assisted spectrophotometry have been successfully performed for determination of sodium benzoate and citric acid that have overlapping of ultra violet absorption spectra. The study aimed to develop, validate, and apply spectrophotometric method with chemometrics approach for determination of both compounds in beverage products simultaneously. The analytical method was performed by making a calibration model using 16 training sets and 10 test sets of mixed solution followed by absorbance measurenment at wavelength of 190 nm up to 400 nm. In addition, the absorbance data was processed by multivariate calibration models of principal component regression (PCR) and partial least square-1 (PLS-1) and validated internally and externally to obtain optimum model. Validation of analytical methods was done by evaluating some parameters such as linearity and ranges, accuracy, precision, detection limits and quantification limits. The results showed that the optimum wavelength was 235 nm to 250 nm for sodium benzoate and 220 nm to 240 nm for citric acid with the selected optimum principal components (PCs) value were 6 (PCR) and 4 (PLS-1) for sodium benzoate and PCs 2 (PCR and PLS-1) for citric acid. The parameters of the analytical method validation developed were suitable and the analytical methods could be applied for the determination of the sodium benzoate and citric acid contents simultaneously in the beverage products.

Abstract

This study aims to counseling and training Karimpu production, and to know the effects of Karimpu on total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL plasma women with hypercholesterolemia. The trainees were 20 mothers from Ciberem village, Sumbang, Banyumas district. Karimpu drinks are composed of Chip Rimpang Cardamom and spices. As the subject of the intervention study were 30 women with hypercholesterolemia (cholesterol level > 200 mg / dl), obesity, age 45-65 years, living in Purwokerto area, willing to sign informed consent. Randomly subjects divided into 3 groups of 10 people each; I, given statin + Karimpu; II, statin + placebo; III, statin for 2 months. Blood samples were taken twice, 0 and 2 months after intervention, centrifuged, the plasma level was tested for total cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride, and HDL. People enthusiastically attended counseling and training showed test results increased 46.1%. The Karimpu product decreases cholesterol (P = 3,71E-07) and LDL (P = 0.0009), and otherwise increases HDL (P = 0.014), and retains triglyceride (P> 0.05) patients with hypercholesterolemia. Karimpu is able to inhibit the development of hypercholesterolemia towards heart disease by improving lipid profile. Keywords: Cardamom rhizome drink, lipid profile, training production.

Abstract

Background : Sunscreen preparations can be used effectively to absorb sunlight especially in the UV wave emission region. The stress condition during storage of a preparation may affect physical and chemical properties. This study aims to determine the effect of stress storage conditions on physical stability and nilai  Sun  Protection  Factor (SPF) values as the effectiveness of sunscreen preparations that stored in three different temperatures. Method : This experimental study was conducted with the selection of sunscreen samples and performing physical stability tests in termed of color observation, physical observation, pH value, spreading test, adhesive test, and SPF value measurement of sunscreen using spectrophotometry in lotion and gel dosage forms stored at room temperature (25◦C), low temperature (4◦C), and high temperature (40◦C). Result : The results showed that the stress storage condition influenced the physical properties of the preparation in the form of adhesive property, spreading capacity, and significantly affect the SPF value of the sunscreen (p <0.05) after 14 days of storage.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Calophyllum soulattri Burm F. is widely utilized in traditional medicine. It is necessary to identify secondary metabolites from C. soulattri leaves to determine the pharmacologically active chemicals. Objective: This study aimed to screen the phytochemical content and purify the n-hexane fraction of C. soulattri leaves from Banyumas, Indonesia. Methods: The n-hexane fraction was macerated with methanol, followed by liquid-liquid fractionation with n-hexane. The n-hexane fraction was tested for flavonoids, triterpenoids/steroids, saponins, and phenols using the test tube method. In addition, the compounds were purified using column chromatography. The purified compound was identified by the Liebermann-Burchard reagent, which was compared with commercially available steroid drugs as reference. Results: Phytochemical analysis revealed that the n-hexane fraction of C. soulattri leaves contained secondary metabolites such as flavonoid, steroid, and phenol compounds. Analyses with the Liebermann-Burchard reagent indicated that the purified compound was potentially a steroid. Conclusion: The compound extracted from the n-hexane fraction of C. soulattri leaves was expected as a steroid.
