Abstract

Many  plants  are  used  empirically  as  antioxidant.  Plants  that  are  frequently  used  in Indonesian  communities  are  Zingiber  officinale  and  Piper  retrofractum.  The  aim  of  this  research was  to  investigate  the  in  vitro  antioxidant  activity  of  single  ethanolic  extract  and  the combinations ofZ. officinale and P. retrofratum using free radical scavenging DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl)  method.  Z.  officinale  and  P.  retrofratum  were  extracted  by  maceration  using 95%  ethanol  for  3  x  24  hours. Antioxidant  activity  was  evaluated  using  1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. The concentration of the extract (μg/mL) that was required to scavenge 50% of free radicals (IC50)was calculatedusing the percent scavenging activities of six different  extract  concentrations.  The  results  showed  that  the  single  ethanolic  extract  of  Z. Officinalle produced the highest antioxidant activity with IC50of 56 μg/mL, while the antioxidant  activity of the single ethanolic extract of  P. retrofractum produced an IC50 of 3.445 μg/mL. The IC50 of combination of Z. officinale and P. retrofratum ethanolic extracts at concentration ratios of 1: 2, 1 : 1, and 2 : 1 were 148 μg/mL, 85 μg/mL, and 73 μg/mL.Key words: Zingiber  officinale, Piper retrfratum, Antioxidant, DPPH

Abstract

Pengukuran nilai pH sebagai indikator asam-basa produk obat, kosmetik dan makanan memiliki peranan penting dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Alat ukur pH yang ada saat ini harganya masih relatif mahal dan masih menggunakan indikator yang kurang ramah  lingkungan. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah mengembangkan suatu alat ukur pH berupa tes strip dari ekstrak bahan alam yang sederhana, murah, akurat dan ramah lingkungan serta menguji alat ukur yang dikembangkan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan membuat ekstrak beberapa bahan alam dan diuji pada larutan pH 0 hingga 14. Optimasi dan imobilisasi ekstrak  dilakukan dalam kertas selulosa kemudian dibuat dalam bentuk test strip. Uji performa alat ukur yang dilakukan meliputi uji waktu respon, spesifitas, reprodusibilitas, stabilitas dan uji biodegradable. Hasil yang diperoleh berupa 5 dari 20 ekstrak yang diuji yaitu ektrak rimpang kunyit, kol ungu, bunga kecombrang, mawar merah, dan rosella berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai indikator alami. Waktu uji respon tes strip kurang dari 15 detik dengan spesifisitas, reprodusibilitas, dan stabilitas yang baik serta dapat terurai alami dalam waktu dua hari. Kesimpulan penelitian yaitu alat ukur pH berbentuk test strip dari bahan alam telah berhasil dikembangkan dan diaplikasikan untuk mengukur berbagai sampel produk sehari-hari dengan hasil uji yang baik dan sebanding dengan alat ukur pH meter lainnya.

Abstract

The development and validation of chemometrics-assisted spectrophotometry have been successfully performed for determination of sodium benzoate and citric acid that have overlapping of ultra violet absorption spectra. The study aimed to develop, validate, and apply spectrophotometric method with chemometrics approach for determination of both compounds in beverage products simultaneously. The analytical method was performed by making a calibration model using 16 training sets and 10 test sets of mixed solution followed by absorbance measurenment at wavelength of 190 nm up to 400 nm. In addition, the absorbance data was processed by multivariate calibration models of principal component regression (PCR) and partial least square-1 (PLS-1) and validated internally and externally to obtain optimum model. Validation of analytical methods was done by evaluating some parameters such as linearity and ranges, accuracy, precision, detection limits and quantification limits. The results showed that the optimum wavelength was 235 nm to 250 nm for sodium benzoate and 220 nm to 240 nm for citric acid with the selected optimum principal components (PCs) value were 6 (PCR) and 4 (PLS-1) for sodium benzoate and PCs 2 (PCR and PLS-1) for citric acid. The parameters of the analytical method validation developed were suitable and the analytical methods could be applied for the determination of the sodium benzoate and citric acid contents simultaneously in the beverage products.

Abstract

Obat merupakan komponen penting dari pelayanan kesehatan yang merupakan kebutuhan masyarakat. Masih kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat akan obat dan pengelolaannya terutama bagi anggota keluarga, maka diperlukan suatu usaha edukasi serta peningkatan kualitas pengelolaan obat di rumah tangga  melalui program pelatihan dan pendampingan oleh apoteker. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengetahuan dan sikap masyarakat dalam mengelola obat di rumah tangga serta meningkatkan kualitas pengelolaan obat oleh masyarakat di rumah tangga. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimental.  Penelitian  dilakukan di Dusun Sidasari Wetan, Desa Kubangkangkung, Kawunganten, Cilacap. Workshop pengelolaan obat di rumah tangga oleh apoteker dilakukan kepada 33 orang peserta.  Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuisioner dan observasi lapangan melalui kunjungan (home visit). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan dan sikap masyarakat dalam mengelola obat di rumah tangga sebesar masing-masing 10% dan 7 %. Kegiatan workshop dan pendampingan oleh apoteker dapat memberikan manfaat dan perubahan perilaku dalam pengelolaan obat di rumah tangga bagi masyarakat.

Abstract

Kanker adalah penyebab kematian terbesar kelima di dunia dan kasus baru muncul secara signifikan. Akhir-akhir ini, produk alami yang digunakan secara luas sebagai kemopreventive untuk kanker. Penelitian sebelumnya melaporkan Curcuma zanthorrhiza Roxb., Curcuma longa L. Dan Zingiber officinale 'Sunti' memiliki aktivitas antikanker yang diuji secara in vitro dan in vivo. Saat ini, penggunaan C. Zanthorrhiza Roxb., C. Longa L.and Z. Officinale 'Sunti'is masih terbatas oleh masyarakat. Sehingga dibutuhkan suatu sediaan yang lebih praktis dalam bentuk formulasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempersiapkan tablet hisap dengan variasi bahan pengikat polivinilpirolidon (PVP), sehingga dihasilkan formula yang memenuhi syarat uji fisik tablet hisap serta dapat diterima oleh masyarakat. Ekstrak campuran disiapkan secara granulasi basah, sifat fisik dari uji yang dilakukan meliputi penampilan fisik, keseragaman bobot dan ukuran, uji kekerasan, uji kerapuhan, dan waktu larut dan dievaluasi berdasarkan persyaratan dalam Farmakope Indonesia edisi III dan edisi IV, data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis dengan uji statistik ANOVA. Data responsif uji rasa hasil oleh para responden dianalisis menggunakan Kruskal Wallis. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa formulasi tablet hisap ekstrak dengan variasi dalam tingkat PVP 2-6%  menunjukkan sifat fisik yang memenuhi syarat untuk tablet hisap.

Abstract

Background : Sunscreen preparations can be used effectively to absorb sunlight especially in the UV wave emission region. The stress condition during storage of a preparation may affect physical and chemical properties. This study aims to determine the effect of stress storage conditions on physical stability and nilai  Sun  Protection  Factor (SPF) values as the effectiveness of sunscreen preparations that stored in three different temperatures. Method : This experimental study was conducted with the selection of sunscreen samples and performing physical stability tests in termed of color observation, physical observation, pH value, spreading test, adhesive test, and SPF value measurement of sunscreen using spectrophotometry in lotion and gel dosage forms stored at room temperature (25◦C), low temperature (4◦C), and high temperature (40◦C). Result : The results showed that the stress storage condition influenced the physical properties of the preparation in the form of adhesive property, spreading capacity, and significantly affect the SPF value of the sunscreen (p <0.05) after 14 days of storage.

Abstract

Drugs are an important component of health services that are the needs of the community. There is still a lack ofcommunity knowledge of medicines and management especially for family members, hence an educational effort as well asimprovement of quality of drug management in family through training program and mentoring by pharmacist. Thiscommunity service activity aims to determine the knowledge and attitude of the community in managing drugs in the familyand improve the quality of drug management by the community in the family. The activity was conducted in SidasariWetanKubangkangkung Village Kawunganten Cilacap. The workshop on drug management in family was conducted by pharmaciststo the 33 participants. Data collection was done by using questionnaire and observation through home visit. The result of theactivity shows that the increase of knowledge and attitude of the society in managing drugs in the familywere 10% and 7%,respectively. Workshop activities and mentoring by pharmacists can provide benefits and behavioral changes in family drugsmanagement.

Abstract

Wax is one of the compounds that can be misused to be added to Gorengan, Indonesian fritter, to keep them crispy. Gorengan containing wax is difficult to identify visually, so a quick and easy method of detecting wax content is required. The purpose of this research is to develop and evaluate the analytical performance of detecting wax content in gorengan using smartphone. Gorengan sample was dissolved with hexane and then added reagent that will give discoloration followed by analysis using smartphone. Some analysis performance parameters were evaluated in terms of linearity and detection limit, qualitative analysis capability, precision, and selectivity test. The developed method was also applied in some gorengan samples. The result shows that the detection of wax content in gorengan can be conducted by using reagent consisting of NaOH, Schift, and curcumin (1 : 2 : 2). Performance analysis shows that the linearity measurement at concentration between 10% and 25% has correlation coefficient (r) of 0.9537 with detection limit at concentration of 2% and precision (%RSD) less than 3%. The developed method can be applied for the detection of wax content in gorengan in the market.
