Abstract

This study aims to describe the inner conflicts experienced by the main character in the novel Satiné by Ika Natassa using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic literary psychology approach. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method. The data consisted of narrative passages, dialogues, and monologues indicating the psychological conflicts of the main character. The data source was the novel Satiné by Ika Natassa, while data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using Freud's psychoanalytic theory focusing on the interaction of id, ego, and superego. The findings revealed three forms of inner conflict experienced by the main character. First, anxiety was reflected in feelings of fear, worry, uncertainty, and emotional pressure in interpersonal relationships and future life. Second, hesitation appeared when the character experienced doubt in understanding feelings, making decisions, and interpreting life experiences. Third, inner opposition emerged due to conflicts between personal desires, reality, and moral values that influenced the character's attitudes and decisions. These findings indicate that the imbalance between the id, ego, and superego becomes the main factor causing psychological conflicts throughout the story. Therefore, the novel Satiné presents a complex portrayal of human psychological dynamics and provides a meaningful contribution to literary psychology studies, particularly those based on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic perspective.

Abstract

This study looked at how well using PBL along with Mind Mapping helps eighth-grade students improve their skills in writing observation reports. The study took place at SMP Negeri 2 Sekaran and involved 14 students who took part in the research. A basic study plan was used with one group, where measurements were taken before and after an experiment. The information was gathered from watching teachers and students, from a survey about how students felt, and from writing tests given before and after the teaching program. The data were then looked at using simple statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test to check if the data is normal, and the Paired Samples t-test to test the research idea. The results showed that using Problem-Based Learning along with Mind Mapping was done well. The teacher's activity score was 88%, which is very good. The students' activity score was 82%, also very good. The students' response score was 79%, which is good. The students' writing skills got much better. Their average score went up from 58 in the first test to 84 in the last test. Also, the test showed a significance value of 0. 000, which is below the 0. 05 level These results show that using Problem Based Learning and Mind Mapping together really helped students improve their skills in writing observation reports. So, this teaching method can be seen as a different way to help students improve their writing skills.
