Abstract

Ongole Grade cattle is one of local cattle in Indonesia. This study was aimed to analyze the effect of bull age and season on semen quality of Ongole Grade cattles macroscopically (sperm motility, and sperm concentration) and microscopically (semen ejaculate volume) to support the policy and management on improvement of semen production. Data were collected from 533 ejaculates of 10 bulls aged 3, 4, and 5 yr at Singosari National Artificial Insemination Center(SNAIC). The 4-year-old bulls hadhighestsperm motiliy and semen ejaculate volume. The lowest ejaculate volume was reported in Ongole Gradecattlesaged 3 yr. Sperm motility and concentrationweresignificantly higher (P<0.01) in wet season than dry season. In conclusion, the bull age and season should be considered by Singosari National Artificial Insemination Centerwhen collecting the semen, especially on bulls aged 3 yr old and in dry season.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the correlation of age of Bali bull to the body weight and semen qualities. The materials were 50 Balibulls data collected from 2012 to 2018. Therecordeddatawere consisted ofsemen productions (n = 1304) and body weight (n = 1544). The observation was conducted to analysis the interrelationship between the Bali bulls age and body weight (BW), to the semen volume (SV), individual motility (IM) and sperm concentration (SC). The obtained data was analyzed with One-Way ANOVA analysisby using SPSS 24 and followed with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test to determine any significant differences. The correlation between Bali bulls age (the independent variable) and semen quality (the dependent variable) was computed by using Pearson correlation method and presented in linear regression models. The results showed that the Bali bulls agesignificantly affect (P<0.05) the BW from the age of 1 to 10 years old. The age also showed a significant effect (P<0.05) on the semen qualities. The age correlated significantly (P<0.05) with BW, SV, IM, SC were 0.658, 0.386, 0.134 and 0.086, respectively. Inconclusion, the age of Bali bull could be used as an indicator todetermineits BWand semenqualities.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to evaluate the genetic improving of production traits selected of Balicattle. Four hundred and twenty eight data of weaning weight, yearling weight and body weight gainwere used to estimate genetic improvement for those traits. One hundred and seven data of bodydimension (body weight, chest circumference, body length and withers height) at 24 months old wereused to estimate genetic improving for those traits. The estimation of genetic and environmentalvariance and co-variance component, and heritability were found by animal model. The fix effect ofweaning weight, yearling weight and body weight gain was rainfall, age of measurement and year ofbirth, whereas the fix effect of body dimension depend on each trait. The result showed that heritabilityof weaning weight, yearling weight, body weight gain, body weight, chest circumference, body lengthand withers height was 0.090.15, 0.270.13, 0.470.15, 0.070.19, 0.500.19, 0.340.28, 0.600.21,respectively. Genetic improvement of all traits have had a different pattern in selection responses. Alltraits did not show genetic improvement due to selection for.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:  The quality of semen inseminated to the dam might influence on the fer-tilization process and fetal growth during pregnancy. The aim of this research was to analysis the litter size, birth and weaning weight of Boer x PE goat crosses. Forty one parous and multiparous Peranakan Etawah (PE) does were naturally mated with selected Boer buck (NM-group), while the other 24 does were inseminated using artificial tech-nique using semen collected from the same buck as NM-group  and called as AI-group. The result showed no significant differences in litter size, birth weight and weaning weight between kids resulting from the does mated naturally and artificially insemina-tion technique (1.8±0.64 vs. 1.79±0.58; 2.93±0.568 vs. 2.96±0.397 kg; and 11.06 ± 2.001 kg vs. 11.31 ± 1.54 kg, for litter size, birth weight and weaning weight, respec-tively. It was concluded that mating technique in cross mating between PE does x Boer buck did not influence on the litter size and early growth phase of kids. Keywords: PE does, Boer buck, natural mating, artificial insemination
