AbstractThis service aims to assist assistance in implementing Special Cheerful Gymnastics (SCK) to improve physical health and motor skills in mentally disabled students with mild levels in Tamima Mumtaz Extraordinary Schools (SLB). This is because Tunagrahita children in SLB only do indoor activities and there are no activities that support physical health and motor development through gymnastic movements. This gymnastics is accompanied by cheerful and fun music to further attract students' interest in following the gymnastic movements. This exercise consists of heating movements, core movements, and cooling movements. The method used in this community service is a personal approach from personal introductions, conducting activities outside the classroom, creating SCK, and inviting students to demonstrate. In its implementation, the SCK at Tamima Mumtaz SLB students were very enthusiastic about participating in the SCK movement. While the obstacles faced are 1) students are difficult to control when doing gymnastics, 2) one student must be accompanied by one companion to correct their movements, and 3) the short time of implementation makes it difficult for students to repeat the movements. Keywords— SLB Tamima Mumtaz, Special Cheerful Gymnastics, Light Developmental Disabilities

Abstract

The challenges of implementing inclusive vocational education for students with special educational needs in higher education are increasingly complex, particularly in a practice-based fashion course that requires technical and procedural competencies. This study aims to examine instructional strategies for students with special educational needs in a fashion practicum course. A classroom action research design employing a Longitudinal Quasi-Qualitative approach was conducted over one semester, involving three students categorized into mild, moderate, and severe levels of need. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, using observation checklists, semi-structured interview guides, and field notes. The research procedure followed iterative cycles of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in instructional practices and student responses. The findings indicate that a uniform instructional approach implemented in the first cycle was ineffective, particularly for students with moderate and severe needs, due to a mismatch between task demands and learner characteristics. In contrast, the second cycle, which incorporated differentiated tasks, simplified instructions, and personalized sensory stimuli, significantly improved student engagement and learning accessibility. This study concludes that effective inclusive vocational education requires adaptive instructional design that integrates cognitive, emotional, and sensory dimensions, and highlights the potential of adaptive learning ecosystems to enhance sustainable inclusion and work readiness.

Abstract

Children with special needs need vocational education in fashion design to become independent after graduation. This is because special needs schools (SLB) have a low understanding of the quality of learning, skills development, and intellectual property rights (HKI) for their creations, making them marketable. This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to enhance the quality of the fashion design vocational education program through fashion skills training and intellectual property rights training for teachers and children with special needs (ABK) to prepare students' independence after graduation from SLB Kristen Pelangi Kasih, Lumajang Regency. The implementation adopted a service-learning approach, which consisted of several stages: problem identification, priority setting, timeline planning, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, unstructured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that fashion design skills, through training in painting on fabric marbelling, sewing, and cowhide painting, were successfully implemented, and the IPR training for student work provided valuable training for participating teachers. The evaluation showed that 80%-100% of participants stated that the training provided new experiences for them and positively contributed to enhancing the creativity of children with special needs at the SLB Kristen Pelangi Kasih. Ultimately, it can be concluded that the SLB's challenges related to developing student independence can be addressed through vocational skills training supported by IPR for their products.
