Abstract

Physiological and psychological changes during pregnancy can cause various complaints, such as nausea, back pain, and sleep disturbances, as well as increase the risk of mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. However, current antenatal services still focus more on physical aspects compared to preventing pregnancy complaints and promoting mental health. This study aims to explore the integration of education on preventing common pregnancy complaints and promoting mental health in first contact antenatal care based on the perspective of midwives. The research method used was qualitative with purposive sampling technique, involving 6 midwives as participants, conducted for 4 months, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of the study identified six main themes, including low coverage of first pregnancy contact (K1), suboptimal mental health education, and the need for service integration and the use of digital-based educational media. The conclusion of this study confirms that improving the quality of antenatal services requires revision of procedures, innovation in digital education, and stronger social support to improve the welfare of pregnant women.

Results of the activity showed that there were still teenagers who did not know about their reproductive health and when anthropometric measurements were carried out, it was found that there were still teenagers whose LiLA and BMI were not ideal. Conclusion: This activity can increase adolescent awareness in making decisions in choosing how to maintain their reproductive health. In addition, it is hoped that the Banyuwangi GKJW youth will also be able to share the education they have received with their peers.

Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, 42.3% of pregnant women have low self-efficacy and 68.7% women are not physically and knowledge-wise ready to become mothers. Willingness to become parents is very important to create a better future generation. Education with audio-visual media is preferred and easy to understand. This study aims to determine the effect of education on preparation for becoming parents on the self-efficacy of pregnant women. Method: The design of this study was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test non-equivalent with control group design approach, which was conducted at the Songgon Health Center Banyuwangi, Indonesia in June 2024. The sample size consisted of 36 people selected through purposive sampling. The subjects of this study, pregnant women who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were divided into two groups: the intervention group (18 respondents), which received educational animated videos on parenthood preparation, and the control group (18 respondents), which received standard ANC interventions. Self-efficacy was measured using the Maternal Self-Efficacy in Parenting Preparation questionnaire.  The statistical analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. Result: The average increase in self-efficacy in the intervention group was greater than in the control group (10.72> 5.50). The results of the statistical test showed a p-value of 0.019 (p <0.05), namely there was an effect of education on preparation for becoming parents on the self-efficacy of pregnant women. Conclusion: Education about preparing to become parents using animated videos can be applied during pregnancy classes or during antenatal care.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding remains low globally, with only 44% of infants receiving it during the first six months. One contributing factor is low Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy (BSE). In Indonesia, 56% of mothers have low BSE due to inadequate education, limited family support, and psychological challenges. Animated video-based education is considered effective in increasing BSE among pregnant women, potentially enhancing exclusive breastfeeding success. This study aimed to examine the effect of breastfeeding preparation education using animation videos on BSE in third-trimester pregnant women at Tanah Kalikedinding Public Health Center, Surabaya, in 2022. Method: A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest and control group was used. Seventy-four pregnant women (37 per group) were selected through consecutive sampling and met inclusion criteria: gestational age 28–36 weeks, single healthy pregnancy, ability to use WhatsApp, Google Forms, and Zoom, and willingness to participate. Exclusion criteria included serious medical conditions or hearing/vision impairments. The intervention group received an animated video titled “Manfaat ASI dan Persiapan Menyusui” (5 minutes/day for 3 days), along with Q&A and video sharing. The control group was directed to read breastfeeding material from the KIA book. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests via SPSS25. Result: Results showed a significant increase in BSE in the intervention group (mean increase = 4.97) compared to a decrease in the control group (mean decrease = 2.49), with p = 0.000. Conclusion: In conclusion, animated video-based education effectively improves breastfeeding self-efficacy and may support the success of exclusive breastfeeding programs.

Abstract

Low self-efficiency causes twice the risk of experiencing discomfort due to pregnancy complaints. Providing prenatal education reduces it, but no studies using animated videos on the CPSP prevention guidance against self-efficacy were found. This study aimed to ascertain the impact of Common Pregnancy Symptoms in Pregnancy (CPSP) prevention guidance on pregnant women's self-efficacy. The design of this research is a non-randomized controlled trial in one of the independent health centres of midwifery in Banyuwangi, Indonesia. This study was conducted from July to September 2023 on 60 pregnant women with purposive sampling, so two groups of 30 were allocated to the control and experimental groups. After the intervention, a significant difference was observed in the average self-efficacy scores between the control and experimental groups (p = 0.000). Before and after the intervention, the average self-efficacy scores in the experimental group were 22.73±4.51 and 28.58±4.26, respectively, demonstrating a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000). This study encourages health professionals, midwives, and antenatal service providers to use the prevention guidance of CPSP in the first contact of antenatal care to remain relevant and timely with pregnancy information amid the administrative bustle.

Abstract

Globally, the prevalence of low back pain in pregnancy varies between 34-86%. Prenatal yoga increases flexibility, strength, and endurance of muscles such as the back, abdominal, and pelvic floor muscles. This study aims to determine the effect of prenatal yoga on reducing low back pain in pregnant women. This research method is quasi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test approach with a control group design. A total of 46 pregnant women (23 subjects in each group) who came consecutively and had passed the selection based on inclusion criteria (pregnant women aged 16-31 weeks, experiencing mild to moderate low back pain, willing to be research respondents) and exclusion (pregnant women) with complications, nausea vomiting pregnancy, spinal disorders, multiple pregnancies, taking pain medication, having medical restrictions on physical activity or exercise, and participating in other back pain therapies) were selected as study subjects. Research subjects in the intervention group received prenatal yoga once a week (60 minutes) for eight weeks with the same sequence, while the control group was given education and motivation for pregnancy exercise according to ANC standards using leaflets. Pain measurement using VAS performed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and paired t-test. The results of the study showed that there was a decrease in low back pain in the prenatal yoga group and the control group (p<0.001). The average decrease in low back pain in the prenatal yoga group was higher (3.57mm) than in the control group (1.76mm). The study concludes that prenatal yoga is a complementary and alternative therapy that is safe and can prevent and reduce complaints of low back pain in pregnant women.
