Abstract

Infant development can be broken down into four aspects: gross motor skills, fine motor skills, personal-social skills, and language. Stimulation in the form of exercise is one way to safeguard infant growth and motor development. Potential problems, if a child is not stimulated, include delayed motor development or a suboptimal motor development process. Given the numerous negative impacts, increased vigilance is needed for potential hazards. Social approaches in the form of baby gym or infant gymnastics need to be optimized to enhance growth optimization efforts, one of which is through outreach using teaching methods on infant gymnastics. This outreach activity has been proven to improve infant growth at Sukorejo Village, Ngasem Community Health Center, Kediri Regency. However, ongoing support is needed so that mothers can deepen their infant's motor growth and development.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional condition that affects child growth and development and remains a major public health concern in Indonesia. Community empowerment–based interventions utilizing local food resources, such as moringa leaves, are important strategies for stunting prevention. This community service program aimed to establish a Self-Care Group and to improve the knowledge of mothers of under-five children and community health cadres regarding the use of moringa leaves for stunting prevention. The program was conducted in Sukorejo Village, within the working area of Ngasem Public Health Center, involving 20 participants. The intervention included the formation of a self-care group, nutrition education, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test methods. The results showed that before the intervention all participants had low knowledge, while after the intervention all participants (100%) demonstrated good knowledge. The main outcome was the establishment of a Self-Care Group to support sustainable, community-based stunting prevention efforts

Abstract

Based on data from the Kediri Regency Health Office in the Kediri Regency Health Profile 2024, the Ngasem Health Center recorded 248 stunted children out of 3,533 measured, representing 7.9%. This indicates that stunting remains a significant public health issue requiring promotive and preventive interventions, particularly through nutrition education for pregnant women, mothers of young children, and families during the First 1,000 Days of Life (HPK). This community service activity was conducted in Sukorejo Village, Ngasem District, Kediri Regency, with the aim of increasing community awareness of the importance of the First 1,000 Days of Life as a critical period for child growth and development. The program involved 20 participants, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and posyandu cadres. Activities consisted of interactive health education, group discussions, and demonstrations on preparing balanced meals using locally available food ingredients. Educational materials focused on the concept of the First 1,000 Days of Life, nutritional requirements during pregnancy and early childhood, and stunting prevention through a balanced diet. The results showed a substantial improvement in participants’ knowledge. Before the education session, 70% of participants had poor knowledge, while after the post-test, 95% demonstrated good understanding of HPK and appropriate nutritional practices. Participants also gained practical skills in preparing nutritious family meals. The program was well received and is expected to be implemented regularly to support sustainable stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that adversely affects child growth and remains a national development priority due to its high prevalence in developing countries, including Indonesia. Empowering community health cadres by enhancing their knowledge and motivation is a strategic effort to prevent stunting, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of health education intervention using booklet media in improving the knowledge and motivation of posyandu cadres regarding nutrition and stunting prevention. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach was employed, involving 45 posyandu cadres in Tempurejo Subdistrict, Kediri City. The intervention consisted of structured health education sessions using booklet media, focusing on nutrition and stunting prevention. Data were collected before and after the intervention and analyzed using the Paired Sample t-test. There was a statistically significant improvement in cadres’ nutritional knowledge (p = 0.000) and motivation for stunting prevention (p = 0.000) following the booklet-based intervention. However, the increase in stunting-related knowledge was not statistically significant (p = 0.154), indicating the need for enhanced educational strategies targeting this aspect. The booklet-based intervention effectively improved cadres' nutritional knowledge and motivation but was less effective in enhancing their understanding of stunting. More interactive and practical educational strategies—such as videos, infographics, and field simulations—are recommended. Periodic training, active involvement of cadres in material development, and routine evaluation are essential to ensure the sustainability and impact of the program. Keywords: Empowerment, Posyandu Cadres, Knowledge, Motivation, Stunting.

Abstract

Stunting remains a nutritional problem among toddlers, influenced by low parental knowledge regarding the utilization of nutritious local foods. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) have a high nutritional content and potential to be used as an alternative for stunting prevention. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on knowledge regarding the utilization of Moringa leaves as an effort to prevent stunting among toddlers. The study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population consisted of 30 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Knowledge was measured before and after the provision of health education. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before health education, all respondents (100%) had poor knowledge. After the intervention, most respondents had good knowledge (28 respondents; 93.3%), while 2 respondents (6.67%) had sufficient knowledge. The Wilcoxon test results indicated a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant difference in knowledge before and after the health education intervention. It can be concluded that health education has a significant effect on improving knowledge regarding the utilization of Moringa leaves as an effort to prevent stunting among toddlers.
