Abstract

Extraction and characterization of pectin from the oranges peel of kisar (Citrus sp.) have been done. Pectin was obtained from extraction oranges peel crust of kisar with HCl at temperature 90 °C during 4 hours. The content of albido and pectin are 69.17% and 82.82%, respectively. Identification functional group of pectin was using by FTIR spectrophotometer which OH-alcohol (3294.42–3373.50 cm-1), CH3-alifatic (2939.52 cm-1), C=O ester (1741.72–1730.15 cm-1), C=C alkene (1614.42–1643.35 cm-1), and C-O eter (1232.51–1276.88 cm-1). Characterizations of pectin were equivalent weight (2011.6 mg), methoxyl content (1.17%), galacturonic level (41.64%), moisture content (28.46%), ash content (11.92%), and degree of esterification (15.95%).

Abstract

The chitosan isolation from crab crab waste (Portunus sanginolentus) has been carried out. Chitin production is carried out by the de-proteination, demineralization and depigmentation processes. Chitosan biopolymer is produced from chitin through de-acetylation method using base solution (NaOH) and the addition of NaBH4 which aims to increase the degree of de-acetylation (DD) of chitosan. The results of 25 g of chitin obtained chitosan amounted to 16.67 g (66.68%). Chitin and Chitosan were identified by a Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrophotometer.

Abstract

The chitin isolation from crab Rajungan (Portunus sanginolentus) and commercial chitin was done. The chitosan was made by deasetilation of chitin using alkaline solution with addition NaBH4. The chitin and chitosan were identified by related instrument. The identification by adsorption Cr(III) ion on chitosan was done by the Atomic Absorption Spectrofotometry. The result of the chitosan isolation was fitted to the Freundlisch isotherm, with KF = 1.18673 mg/g and 1/n= 0.2712.

Abstract

Adsorption rhodamine B dye using adsorbent of activated carbon from fish scales has been done. The study aims to determine the adsorption isotherm. Activated carbon was obtained through the process of carbonization, putting the fish scales into the furnace at 350 °C and characterized by XRD, the results showed that the three peaks with intensity in their regions were 26.45o, 32.69o, and 33.60o. It was calcined at the temperature of 450 °C and characterized by XRD. The results showed peaks shift were 26.52o, 29.66o, and 32.77o. The activation charcoal in a 3M KOH, dried in oven at 110 °C and characterized by XRD. The results showed, peaks with the highest intensity were 26.22o, 29.12o, and 32.43o, and the basal spacing is biggest than before activation. The determination of rhodamine B dye adsorption was characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the optimum condition were 0.8 g mass adsorbent, the contact time of 100 minutes at pH of 3, and concentration of 10 ppm. The adsorption of rhodamine B dye using activated carbon from fish scales followed Freundlich isotherm with correlation coefficient (r2), KF, and n were 99.68%, 0.6298 mg/g, and 1.8685 respectively that showed fisisorption process.
