Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the problem and difficulties of speaking at Muhammadiyah Lampung University students in Covid pandemic. This research used descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research were Muhammadiyah Lampung University students at first semester in English Education Department. The data collecting technique of this research used questionnaire. The result of this research indicated that the students in first semester of English Department have some problems and difficulties in speaking subject during Covid pandemic. There some problems and difficulties in practicing speaking in Covid pandemic namely 1) understanding the conversation; (2) less of vocabularies; (3) pronunciation; (4) shy, (5) Worrying for making grammatical errors, (6) lack of Technology, and (7) lack of motivation. Based on the analysis of questionnaire indicated that that 5 % in meaning, 22 % in vocabularies, 8 % in pronunciation, 32 % in shy, 8% Worrying for making grammatical errors, 10% lack of Technology, and 15% lack of motivation. Based on the data the majority students indicated that confidence is the most problem in speaking skill.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the difficulties in translating text, the type of error in translation and the factors cause it in translation at Muhammadiyah Lampung University Students. The subject of this research were Muhammadiyah Lampung University at fourth semester in English Education Department. The data collecting technique of this research used test and questionnaire. The result of this research indicated that students have some difficulties in Translation Subject such as (1) Elliptical Error (12%), Idioms (57%), and textual meaning ( 31%). Based on the data the majority students indicated that Idioms is the most difficulties in Translation English Text.

Abstract

Bahasa merupakan salah satu media untuk berkomunikasi. Orang tidak dapat berkomunikasi satu sama lain dan mengekspresikan ide-ide mereka tanpa bahasa. Bahasa Inggris adalah salah satu bahasa internasional. Jadi penting bagi kita untuk berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Dalam berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris kita harus menguasai tenses karena dengan menggunakan tenses yang tepat kita dapat membuat kalimat yang baik sehingga kita dapat berkomunikasi satu sama lain dengan lancar. Dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris khususnya tenses, guru membutuhkan media, teknik dan strategi yang baik karena memiliki pengaruh yang besar untuk membuat siswa lebih semangat dan termotivasi untuk mempelajari tenses. Dalam penelitian ini penulis memfokuskan pada penggunaan permainan yaitu Error Analysis Draw Game. Itu bisa meningkatkan dan meningkatkan penguasaan tenses siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Setelah menganalisis data, penulis menemukan hasil rasio adalah 4,73 dan ttabel adalah 2,00 untuk taraf signifikan 5% (α=0,05) dan 2,66 untuk taraf signifikan 1% (α=0,01). Artinya tratio > ttabel, sehingga tratio lebih tinggi dari ttabel. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh positif penggunaan Error Analysis Draw Game terhadap penguasaan tenses siswa

Abstract

This study examines the convergence theory's applicability in the language acquisition process of two language ambassadors who possess excellent English speaking abilities. The research utilizes a qualitative method, employing in-depth interviews as the primary data collection tool. The respondents, Vina and Rafli, were selected based on their outstanding English proficiency demonstrated through language tests and academic achievements. Findings reveal that both internal factors (such as interest and talent) and external factors (such as supportive environments and learning facilities) significantly contribute to the respondents' language proficiency. The study concludes that the convergence theory accurately explains the language acquisition process in the cases of Vina and Rafli.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand and describe the perceptions of teachers and students about the use of cake applications on English speaking skills. The method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative which is presented in the form of a proportion diagram. The data collecting technique of this research used observation,questionnaires, and documentation. The researcher did direct observation in SMP Surya Dharma Bandar Lampung both in the class and out class. The questionnairesof this research used the four most alternative answers, namely strongly agree, agree, neutral and disagree. The questionnaires consisted of 10 numbers questions. The documentation technique were the documentation of score English Speaking skill from the English teacher before giving the cake application. Participants in this research were 40 students of SMP Surya Dharma Bandar Lampung and 10 teachers of SMP Surya Dharma Bandar Lampung. This research used 9th grade class. Based on the research results obtained, it showed that most teachers and students agree with the learning method using the Cake application. The students were more interested in English learning. The students felt enjoy and fun learning English using the Cake application. Therefore, this research found that the variety of teaching method gave positive effect for the students.

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose is to find out the using of Flashcard as an instructional media towards students’ reading comprehension. The study was done in the eleventh grade Nurul Ulum Tulung Agung Gadingrejo Pringsewu throughout the 2022–2023 academic year. The author employed action research in the classroom. Both experimental and control classes were employed by the author. The writer utilized flashcards as a learning tool in an experimental lesson, meanwhile the writer applied conventional treatment in the control group. The writer used quantitative descriptive research method. This study had a sample of 24 students as an experimental class. This study was used quantitative research. Pre-tests and post-tests were employed in the experimental class and control class to gather data. In the teaching-learning process, a test with 10 multiple-choice questions regarding the subject was used to gauge students' reading comprehension of an explanation text. This research used two cycles for the treatment in experimental class. To analyze the data was used the SPSS 16.0 App. There has been a noticeable improvement in reading comprehension skill as measured by the difference in pre- and post-test scores in the students of eleventh grade in MA Nurul Ulum Tulung Agung Gadingrejo Pringsewu. This research concluded that using Flashcard is effective as an instructional media towards students’ reading comprehension.
