Abstract

Maarif NU Educational Institution of Surabaya City houses several schools and there are still many teachers who do not understand theoretically and practically the policy of freedom of learning, even though the teacher's understanding of curriculum reform is very essential. Teachers find it difficult to implement a policy of fredom of learning at school and in the classroom. Teachers have difficulty in developing learning methods referring to independent learning. In addition, teachers have difficulty developing an fredom of learning curriculum (just curriculum transmitter). We provide training and mentoring to teachers for three meetings intensively. The result is an increase in teacher understanding in three aspects; (1), theoretically, (2), how to implement it, and (3), how to develop curriculum. This means that training and mentoring is very important to be carried out by more competent experts. This is in line with the research by Postholm (2012), which states that it is important for teacher training to be carried out by more competent people to increase teachers' understanding of the curriculum.

Abstract

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have assumed a prominent role within the academic landscape of numerous countries. Recently, governmental authorities have granted authorization for NGOs to actively participate in augmenting the quality of educational endeavours. The present research aims to delve comprehensively into the perspectives of school principals regarding the active engagement of NGOs in elevating educational standards within the context of Indonesia. Employing qualitative research methods, the study conducted in-depth interviews with a cohort of five elementary school principals located in Surabaya. This investigative approach underscores the acknowledgment of a multifaceted, dynamic, and contextual reality, marked by inherent subjectivity and fluidity, intertwined within the socio-cultural and political milieu. Employing inductive processes, the research employs techniques of data condensation, encoding, categorization, and theorization to facilitate the analysis of the collected data. The resultant findings from this empirical inquiry have revealed the emergence of three overarching thematic constructs: firstly, the formulation of partnership policies involving driving organizations or NGOs; secondly, the cultivation of shared educational responsibilities; and lastly, the discernible benefits stemming from the active involvement of NGOs. The unfolding of an innovative model, borne out of the collaborative policy framework with NGOs, serves as a distinctive political and institutional approach that facilitates the orchestration of collective efforts. This model notably substantiates its efficacy in fostering mutually beneficial collaborations, thereby introducing novel paradigms, methodologies, and educational resources.

Abstract

Indonesia and China continue to develop their cooperation, especially through the BRI project. This project aims to strengthen people-to-people bonds and is considered a soft power diplomacy strategy. It includes cultural and educational exchange programs that are popular among students worldwide, including those from Indonesia. Through literature studies, it has been found that many Indonesian students and Santri view this cooperation positively, and it has changed their negative perception of China. One of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), closely cooperates with China in the education sector. However, they do not link this cooperation with the issue of discrimination against the Uyghur people in China. On the other hand, many Kiai from NU have different perspectives on the BRI project, particularly concerning China’s ideology and Indonesia’s history of communism. This paper aims to comprehensively explain the implementation of the BRI project in the education sector and the views of Indonesian students, Santri, and Kiai as representatives of Indonesia’s educational image worldwide.
