Abstract

Background: Articulation ability greatly influences a child's speech clarity. Articulation involves speech organs such as the tongue, teeth, lips and palatal organs. The accuracy of the phonemes produced depends on the oral structure of the speech. One of the causes of errors in the formation of phonemes in a person is due to interference or damage to the articulator. This can be affected, among other things, by the habit of sucking a pacifier too often and for a long time. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of using pacifiers on the production of articulatory sounds in children aged 3 to 6 years at the Nirwana Integrated Preschool Kindergarten Banjarnegara. Methods: This type of quantitative research with a Cross- Sectional. Data collection techniques using Purposive Sampling with a sample of 25 respondents. The data that has been collected will be univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Spearman Rank statistical test. Results: Based on the results of the Spearman Rank analysis test, the value of ρ (sig.) is 0.004 or value of ρ (sig.) ≤ 0.05, then Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted, indicating that there is an effect of using pacifiers on children's production of articulatory sounds. The correlation coefficient value is 0.557, which means that the level of correlation or relationship between the two variables is in the range of 0.4 to < 0.6, that is to say the medium category. Conclusion: There is an effect of using pacifiers on the production of articulatory sounds in children aged 3 to 6 years at the Nirwana Integrated Preschool Kindergarten Banjarnegara. Parenting style is closely related to the development of vocabulary comprehension skills in children, the better the parenting style, the better the child's ability to understand vocabulary. Purpose: This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between parenting styles and the ability to understand vocabulary in children with intellectual disabilities in SLB Surakarta. Methods: Research using quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Surakarta. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The number of respondents in this study were 30 respondents. Data analysis was carried out by using descriptive and bivariate statistical analysis tests. Spearman Rank's test is used for bivariate analysis. Results: The results of the analysis test with Spearman Rank's found a relationship between parenting styles and the ability to understand vocabulary. It is proven based on the analysis of the data obtained a significance of 0.001 where if it is less than 0.05 then Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted and the correlation coefficient (r) was -0.683. Conclusion: There is a relationship between parenting style and the ability to understand vocabulary in children with intellectual disabilities in SLB Surakarta. Abstract

Abstract Background : Low Birth Weight Infants (LBWIs) often have underdeveloped oromotor abilities, leading to insufficient sucking and swallowing mechanisms. Oral motor stimulation, involving touch and stimulation, especially in the muscle tissues around the mouth, can enhance blood circulation, improve muscle function, and stimulate sucking reflexes in infants. Objectives : This study aims to determine the influence of oral motor stimulation on the sucking ability of low birth weight infants (LBWIs) at RSUP Prof. Dr. I. G. N. G Ngoerah Denpasar Bali. Methods : The research conducted is an experimental study with a one-group pre-test-post-test design. Purposive sampling was used to select 21 LBWIs facing sucking difficulties at RSUP Prof. Dr. I. G. N. G Ngoerah Denpasar Bali. Respondents received intervention once a day for 5 minutes over 7 consecutive days, 15 minutes before feeding. The collected data were presented descriptively, and normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Results : Data analysis using the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed Test showed a significant influence of oral motor stimulation on sucking ability with a significance value (p=0.000) < 0.05. Conclusion : Oral motor stimulation can improve sucking ability in low birth weight (LBW) babies. Keywords : Oral Motor Stimulation, Sucking Ability, Low Birth Weight Infants (LBWIs)
