Abstract

Millennials and Gen Z as the future of the Church have unique characteristics. These characteristics pose a challenge for traditional catechesis to reach and engage them in the proclamation of faith. This article explores the concept of contextualization of catechesis as a solution to overcome these challenges. Contextualization of catechesis can be defined as the process of adapting the message of faith to better suit the cultural and social audience. This contextualization of catechesis aims to make catechesis more relevant, interesting, and easily understood by the millennial generation and Gen Z. This article discusses catechesis contextualization strategies that can be applied, such as: understanding the characteristics and needs of millennials and Gen Z, utilizing technology and social media, involving millennials and Gen Z in the catechesis process, empowering creative and digitally literate catechists, and strengthening cooperation between family, Church, and school. In conclusion, contextualizing catechesis is an important and mandatory effort to reach and involve millennials and Gen Z so that they do not feel alienated in the Church. The author uses the term: “In through their door, out through our door”, because by applying the right strategy, contextualization of catechesis can touch the hearts and minds of millennials and Gen Z, helping them to grow in faith and Christian values.

Abstract

Topik ini diinspirasi oleh situasi dan kondisi yang terjadi di Kampus Sekolah Tinggi Katolik  Santo Yakobus Merauke bahwa cukup banyak mahasiswa yang lebih dominan memiliki pergaulan yang berdampak pada kecerdasan interpersonal sehingga tulisan ini bertujuan untuk melihat seberapa besar pengaruh  pergaulan teman sebaya terhadap kecerdasan interpersonal mahasiswa di Sekolah Tinggi Katolik  Santo Yakobus Merauke. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif  dengan model analisis regresi. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Sekolah Tinggi Katolik  Santo Yakobus Merauke dari semester II-XII sebanyak 132 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan ialah angket dengan model skala semantik yang dikembangkan dalam 98 pernyataan dengan dua variabel yakni pergaulan teman sebaya (50) dan kecerdasan interpersonal (48). Dari hasil uji validitas pada taraf signifikan 5 %, N=132 orang dengan nilai kritis 0,1 dan hasil uji reliabilitas pergaulan teman sebaya diperoleh koefisien alpha sebesar 0,903 berarti reliabilitas instrumen sedang dan reliabilitas kecerdasan interpersonal diperoleh koefisien alpha sebesar 0,908 berarti reliabilitas instrumen sangat tinggi. Dari hasil uji regresi linier sederhana dengan taraf signifikan 5%, diperoleh nilai r² sebesar 0,473 (47,3%) yang berarti terdapat pengaruh yang cukup signifikan dari pergaulan teman sebaya terhadap kecerdasan interpersonal. Variabel lain yang berpengaruh terhadap kecerdasan interpersonal mahasiswa sebesar 52,7%. Hasil pengujian ini menunjukan bahwa Ha di terima dan Ho ditolak. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini disarankan agar mahasiswa perlu untuk meningkatkan pergaulan entah itu di lingkup kampus maupun di luar kampus. Dalam upaya meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas pergaulan dalam dunia pendidikan yakni dengan menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih sehat, inklusif dan mendukung. Peningkatan interaksi antar teman sebaya berpotensi menciptakan lingkungan sosial yang harmonis dan kondusif untuk perkembangan pribadi mahasiswa.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the influence of reading interest on cognitive learning outcomes of 4th and 5th grade students at YPPK Sacred Heart Elementary School Kelapa Lima Merauke; (2) the magnitude of reading interest influence on cognitive learning outcomes; and (3) efforts to increase students' reading interest. The research uses a quantitative approach with regression analysis method. The research population included all 36 students in grades IV and V at YPPK Sacred Heart Elementary School Kelapa Lima Merauke. The sampling technique used was population sampling (entire population as sample). The research instrument was a reading interest questionnaire with 30 statements using a Likert scale, while cognitive learning outcome data was obtained from report card scores for the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The results showed: (1) there is an influence of reading interest on students' cognitive learning outcomes with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05; (2) the magnitude of the influence of reading interest on cognitive learning outcomes is 31.3% (R² = 0.313), while 68.7% is influenced by other variables not examined; (3) efforts to increase reading interest include: development of school libraries with diverse book collections, implementation of literacy programs, and development of engaging learning methods. The regression equation obtained is Y = 56.759 + 0.172X, which means that each increase of 1 point in reading interest will increase cognitive learning outcomes by 0.172 points.
