Abstract

Inflammation is a cell breakdown caused by bacteria, chemical substances, mechanical trauma and physical trauma. Testing of such anti-inflammatory activity can be done in-vitro with the method of protein denaturation using natural materials starfruit leaf (Averrhoa Oxalidaceae L.). This research aims to determine the comparison of the activity of ethanol extract in the strafruit leaf and sodium diclofenac. strafruit Leaf Ethanol extract is made with a concentration of 1 ppm, 10 ppm and 100 ppm with the comparator of sodium diclofenac. Antiinflammatory resistance is obtained by calculating the percentage of inhibition of protein denaturation. The result of a test of strafruit leaf ethanol extract (Averrhoa Oxalidaceae L.) with a value of IC50 of 20.20 μg/mL indicates an inhibitory percentage of more than 20% at the lowest concentration of 1 ppm, while IC50 sodium diclofenac of 14.93 μg/mL with an inhibitory percentage of more than 20% at 5 ppm .

Abstract

Sungkai leaves have bioactive compounds in the form of triterpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, steroids and saponins. This compound contains a chromophore group (conjugated single double bond) which is able to absorb ultraviolet light thereby reducing radiation to the skin. The higher the value, the better it is used as a sunscreen. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of the phytochemical test of the ethanol extract of Sungkai leaves (Peronema Canescens Jack) and the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) test of the ethanol extract of Sungkai leaves (Peronema Canescens Jack) in vitro. The SPF values produced at concentrations of 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 ppm in ethanol extraction were 7.51; 15.93; 27.40; 34.87; and 39.86. Sungkai Leaf Extract (Peronena Cenescens Jack) can be used as a sunscreen ingredient, at concentrations of 200 ppm, 300 ppm, 400 ppm it is included in the suntan category (moderate to ultra protection) and in this SPF test the concentration will affect the resulting SPF value.

Abstract

Biji buah kebiul (Caesalpinia bonduc L. Roxb) memiliki kandungan senyawa caesalpinianone, 6-O-caesalpinianone, 2-O-β-δ-glucosyloxy-4-methoxy benzene propanoic acid, ethacrynic acid, bonducellin, dan flavonol.

Abstract

Areca catechu L. has been widely used as a traditional medicine in medicinal practices in various countries around the world. Areca nut contains secondary metabolite compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, and tannins so it has great potential to be developed as a medicine. The use of anti-inflammatory drugs from natural ingredients is widely developed because synthetic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs cause side effects to the body such as nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and stomach ulcers. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites and determine the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extracts of young and old areca nut seeds. Old areca nut seeds used are areca nut fruits that have an orange color while young areca nut seeds are areca nut fruits that have a green color. The anti-inflammatory activity test method was carried out using the protein denaturation inhibition method at 5, 10, 15, and 20 ppm extract concentrations. The results of this study indicate that young and old areca nut seeds positively contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins and negatively contain steroids. The results of anti-inflammatory activity testing show that ethanol extracts of young and old areca nut seeds have the potential as anti-inflammatory because they have a percentage value of protein denaturation inhibition greater than 20%. A comparison of anti-inflammatory activity between areca nut seeds can be seen from the IC50 value of ethanol extract. The IC50 results show that young areca seeds have an IC50 value of 7.42 ppm which is higher than the old areca seeds of 11.52 ppm

Abstract

One of the most important sources of natural light for life is sunlight, and the skin is the outermost and most significant organ in the human body, making it vulnerable to sunlight exposure. This study aims to determine the biochemistry of secondary metabolite compounds in the guava tangkalak leaves of the plant and their activities as an active ingredient of sunscreen using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results of this study indicate that the guava tangkalak leaves plant contains secondary metabolite compounds, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. The SPF values produced at concentrations of 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, and 1000ppm, SPF values of 2.96, 4.60, 7.70, 10.76, 15.13, and 27.41. The maximum concentration of 1000 ppm protects ultra-categories in SPF.
