Abstract

Introduction: Children’s anxiety toward dental care in the clinic creates significant problems for the patient and the dental professionals. One of the techniques to overcome the anxiety of the patient is by using video game distraction. This study purpose to determined the effectiveness of video game distraction on reducing the level of anxiety in children between 7-10 years during infiltration anesthesia. Method: A pre-test post-test quasi-experimental study was conducted involving 32 purposive sampling subjects; divided into two groups (16 with video game distraction and 16 as a control). Facial Image Scale (FIS) was used to assess anxiety. Result: Independent t-test showed that there were significant differences between the two groups (p<0,05) with a decrease in the level of anxiety in the group with video game distraction by 47,40% while there was an increase of 72,40% in the control group. Conclusion: Video game distraction could be effective in reducing anxiety in children aged 7-10 years under infiltration anesthesia with a reduction rate of 47,40%.

Abstract

Introduction: Dental practitioners have numerous methods to control anxiety and pain in children, and distracting the child appears to be the most command technique used for behavior management during dental procedures. The audiovisual technique is used as a distraction method for reducing anxiety. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of using an audiovisual animation video and virtual reality distraction toward anxiety alteration on children age 7-10 years old on infiltration anesthesia. Method: The design of this study was pretest and post-test, thirty-two children were divided into two groups namely animation video group (n=16) and virtual reality groups distraction (n=16). Result: The efficacy of animation video distraction by 48,9% while using virtual reality is 43,75%. Data analysis using an independent t-test which results in a p-value less than 0,05 in which it was showed non-significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion: The two methods of distraction both animation video and virtual reality have the same effect on reducing anxiety in children age 7-10 years old on filtration anesthesia.

Abstract

Objective: To explain the correlation between cariogenic (high sugar diet) with Food Neophobia (FN) in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children. Material and Methods: This type of research is analytically observational with a cross-sectional design. Sampling technique purposive sampling, number of samples 65 respondents of parents/caregivers in LRD community members of suar autism. Data collection with a questionnaire for five eating patterns and FN three questions in the form of a Google Form. The data were analyzed descriptively, and the spearman rank correlation test was used to analyze the difference between diet and FN. Results: Children consume one to two spoons of sugar per day 95.4%; like sweet food 80%, sweet food between meals 80%; soft drinks 49.2%; non-sweet snacks 56.9%. Based on the category of the frequency distribution of neophobia food levels in children with ASD were light 32.31%, moderate 30.77%, and heavy 36.92%. Spearman rank correlation test r=0.06 p>0.05 was 0.36%. Conclusion: This research shows that diet pattern has a very low association with FN in children with autism spectrum disease.

Abstract

Abstract: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children have disturbances in communication, social inter-action, and behavior that limit them from doing simple self-care, such as maintaining dental and oral hygiene. This study aimed to explain the impact between dental and oral hygiene maintenance on Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) in ASD children. This was an analytical and observational study with a cross sectional design. Samples were 65 parents/caregivers from the LRD Member Suar Autism community obtained by using purposive sampling. The questionnaire used for OHRQoL was the Fransiscan Hospital Oral Health Related Quality of Life (FHC-OHRQoL), and the dental and oral care questionnaire was in the form of Google form. The relationship between oral hygiene maintenance and OHRQoL was analyzed using the Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance correlation test and the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that the association between oral hygiene maintenance and OHRQoL as a whole was 97.1% (p<0.05). The relationship between OHRQoL domains (oral symptoms, children's daily life and parental attention) was 92.8% (p<0.05). The strongest correlation between oral symptoms and children's daily life was 65.61%. In conclusion, maintenance of oral hygiene as a whole has a high impact on OHRQoL, with a strong relationship between the OHRQoL domains, and children's daily life was the most influential one on oral symptoms. Kuesioner penilaian OHRQoL yaitu The Fransiscan Hospital Oral Health Related Quality of Life (FHC-OHRQoL), dan kuesioner pemeliharaan gigi dan mulut dalam bentuk Google form.
