Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is a global health issue that impacts quality of life and future reproductive health. This community service program aimed to improve knowledge, attitudes, and hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls through optimizing youth health posts (Posyandu Remaja) in Jetis Jaten Village, Karanganyar. The program involved 38 participants and was conducted over three months using interactive education, simulations, and mentoring methods. Results showed an 88.9% increase in knowledge, a 105% improvement in dietary awareness, and a reduction in anemia prevalence from 73.7% to 34.2%. This program demonstrated that a community-based approach through youth health posts is effective in preventing anemia and can serve as a sustainable model for public health development..

Abstract

Background: Back pain is one of the most common complaints experienced by pregnant women in the third trimester due to changes in posture, weight gain, and the effects of estrogen and progesterone hormones, which cause ligament and joint relaxation. This condition can reduce the comfort and quality of life of pregnant women. Prenatal yoga is a gentle relaxation and stretching exercise designed to increase flexibility, improve posture, and reduce muscle tension. This study aims to determine the response to back pain in pregnant women in their third trimester who participate in prenatal yoga in the Wedi Community Health Center working area.  Methods: This study used a descriptive approach with total sampling technique. The study population consisted of all pregnant women in their third trimester who experienced lower back pain in the working area of the Wedi Community Health Center in Klaten Regency in 2022, totaling 42 people, all of whom were included in the sample. The research instrument used a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) checklist to measure pain levels. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution and percentages.  Results: Before participating in prenatal yoga, most pregnant women experienced moderate pain on a scale of 5, with 19 respondents (45.2%), while after participating in prenatal yoga, the pain decreased to a scale of 2 in 16 respondents (38.1%).  Conclusion: Prenatal yoga has been proven to help reduce the intensity of back pain in pregnant women in their third trimester safely and effectively. It is recommended that health workers develop prenatal yoga classes in health care facilities as a promotional and preventive measure to improve the comfort and well-being of pregnant women.

Abstract

Background: Chronic energy deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a nutritional condition characterized by an upper arm circumference (UAC) of less than 23.5 cm, reflecting a long-term deficit in energy and protein intake. CED can increase the risk of low birth weight (LBW) and stunting in infants. Therefore, monitoring the nutritional status of pregnant women is important to prevent infant growth disorders. The objective of this study was to determine the anthropometric characteristics of newborns with a history of CE during pregnancy at the Bayat Community Health Center, Klaten District. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design. The population consisted of all infants with a history of KEK pregnancy at the Bayat Community Health Center from January to December 2021. The sampling technique used total sampling of 112 infants. The research instrument used medical record documentation sheets, and data analysis was performed univariately using frequency distribution.  Results: Most infants had normal weight (86.6%), normal length (73.2%), and normal head circumference (93.8%). Maternal characteristics showed that the majority were aged 20–35 years (91.1%), had a high school education (55.4%), were unemployed (76.8%), had an interbirth interval of < 2 years (59.8%), were primiparous (52.7%), had Hb levels ≥ 11 g/dl (86.6%), and had mature pregnancies (93.8%).  Conclusion: The anthropometric measurements of newborns tended to be normal and were related to maternal characteristics, especially birth interval ≥ 2 years, which had the highest proportion of babies with normal weight (81.3%), length (67.9%), and head circumference (79.5%). It is recommended that health workers increase monitoring of nutrition in pregnant women with KEK and educate them on the ideal birth interval to support optimal infant growth and development.

Abstract

Background: Malnutrition in toddlers remains a public health challenge because it can hinder children's growth and development. One of the main causes is low appetite, which leads to inadequate nutritional intake. Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) is known to have properties that improve digestive function and increase appetite through its curcuminoid content, which acts as an antioxidant. This study aims to determine the effect of Curcuma xanthorrhiza jelly on weight gain in malnourished toddlers in Krajan Village, Jatinom, Klaten.  Methods: This study used a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental design and a pretest-posttest approach with a control group. The sampling technique used was total sampling with 17 toddler respondents, consisting of 9 toddlers in the intervention group and 8 toddlers in the control group. The research instrument was a weight observation sheet, while data analysis was performed using the Mann–Whitney nonparametric test.  Results: The analysis results showed a higher increase in weight in the intervention group compared to the control group, with a statistically significant difference (p-value 0.013).  Conclusion: There is a significant effect of Curcuma xanthorrhiza jelly administration on weight gain in malnourished toddlers. It is recommended that innovations in the administration of natural herbal ingredients such as temulawak be developed in the form of safe and attractive functional food products to improve the nutritional status of toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in adolescent girls is a health problem that is still commonly found and has an impact on decreased learning concentration, productivity, and reproductive health. One non-pharmacological alternative that can help increase hemoglobin levels is the consumption of beet juice, which contains iron, folate, and vitamin C. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of beetroot juice in increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with anemia.  Methods: This study used a literature review design by searching articles from the Google Scholar and PubMed databases. The search strategy was conducted using the keywords "beetroot effect," "blood hemoglobin," "beetroot benefit," and "anemia." The articles analyzed were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria relevant to the topic, resulting in 10 eligible journals. The data were analyzed descriptively by examining the study design, sample size, intervention, and results of hemoglobin level improvement.  Results: The review showed that all ten journals reported a significant increase in hemoglobin levels after regular consumption of beetroot juice in adolescent girls with anemia. The nutrients in beetroot play a role in red blood cell formation and increasing blood oxygen capacity.  Conclusion: Beet juice is effective in increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with anemia. Nutrition education programs for adolescents should recommend beet juice consumption as a natural alternative to increase hemoglobin levels.
