Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the interaction patterns and culture of society. The pretext of limiting interactions as the key to handle COVID-19 certainly has various challenges in its implementation in society. Regulators have promulgated various global and national policies (in macro level). It is necessary to ascertain whether the policy can be conveyed and implemented correctly at the micro-level in the community, which has various social and cultural characters. Neighborhood Association (known as Rukun Warga in Indonesia), as the smallest community in society, is undoubtedly the spearhead in ensuring all global and national policies can be carried out correctly. The advancement in technology with social media as its main strength can certainly facilitate various scenarios for preventing COVID-19, as long as it is well utilized. Human cross-checks remain the key to filtering this abundant amount of information. This research intends to study how the role of technology in bridging global information regarding the prevention of COVID-19 can be conveyed well to micro-communities such as Neighborhood Association, as well as seeing the role of the association in sorting out the information presented by technology and making it a COVID-19 prevention treatment according to local wisdom and community character. This study found that technology (especially social media) played a significant role in delivering information and socialization to the Neighborhood Association level. Also, the association has various ways of translating global and national socialization into a treatment that impacts society's compliance regarding social interactions according to health protocols. Furthermore, the author also found that the globally proclaimed restriction for social interactions strengthens social interaction at the Neighborhood Association's micro or environmental level.

Abstract

The Muludan is a tradition conducted by the Royal family in Cirebon Sultanate on the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi' al-awwal) to mark the celebration of the prophet Muhammad's birthday. Thousands of people from some places participate in this tradition. This paper is aimed to elaborate the cultural evolution theory (memetics) introduced by Richard Dawkings which is used to interpret the Muludan tradition as a meme. The role of the agent will be considered as a vector, not an actor. In the meantime, the Muludan can be defined not only as a religious ritual but also as a cultural tradition that has been practiced by the local people for hundred years. The tradition has a system of inheritance such as values, beliefs, behaviors, knowledge, passed down through cultural processes within the scope of the population and the environment. The conclusion is that the meaning behind the Muludan tradition believed by people, so that it develop day by day. They believe that they would gain God blessing (barakah) and Shafa‘at to practice the Muludan ritual.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the perspectives in evolution asserts that culture is also evolving like a biological evolution. When it concerns the biological evolution, the transmission unit is the gene. With regard to the evolution of culture, the transmission unit is the meme. The effort of doing analogy between the meme evolution and the gene evolution in this article is a methodological attempt to provide a further exploration for describing and apprehending the cultural phenomena. This article is at the same time an effort of applying a kind of politics of ontology to study the existence of memes in the study of culture. For this purpose, memetics has been pioneered as a scientific discipline that brings memes as the material object and as the formal object of Darwinian evolution. Critiques on the descriptive character of cultural evolution not necessarily turn to polemics for there is no strict differentiation between description and prescription. The evolution of culture that works in the Darwinian model is a different explanation as well as an alternative for the study of culture in general in an effort to apprehend the ontology of culture. The choice of Darwinian theory of evolution fills the principles of parsimony: simple and explaining.

Abstract

Batik Bogor Tradisiku might be seen as an innovation by the couple Siswaya-Rukoyah. This batik is a variant of the Javanese Batik as the creator habitus. Tradisiku may be considered a particular social ‘action’ especially due to its tendency to create and develop its own distinction. This paper is inspired by Pierre Bourdieu’s genetic structuralism to read and interpret the scheme of perception and the social action of the actors in producing the Batik Bogor. In the meantime, the approach of memetics introduced by the biologist Richard Dawkins is used to interpret the Batik Bogor as a meme, the smallest cultural information unit that spreads out through the social cognition process. The role of the agent will be considered as a vector, not an actor.

Abstract

This study investigates the development prospects of Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (KDMP) as a key player in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the village level. The primary goal is to identify the institutional and operational challenges that limit the cooperative’s potential and propose solutions through improved governance, business model maturity, ecosystem partnerships, and digital transformation. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative surveys with in-depth interviews and observations to assess the cooperative's readiness, its business model, and its impact on SDG goals. The findings reveal that participatory governance, a clear business model focused on value-added services, and strong partnerships are essential for driving SDG outcomes, especially in areas such as income generation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, digital literacy is crucial for enhancing transparency and improving operational efficiency. The study also stresses the importance of integrating SDG indicators into cooperative governance for ensuring long-term sustainability. In conclusion, this research underscores the role of Koperasi Desa Merah Putih as a social institution capable of fostering inclusive economic transformation at the village level, making a significant contribution to the SDGs.
