Abstract

The encounter between the gospel and culture whenever and wherever in the history of the church can take place well or can be useful for both if there is dialogue, openness to give and receive one another. A temporary answer and as one of the hermeneutical tasks, namely the effort to find out in-depth not only the meaning of something but also the background and all the processes why people arrive at this understanding. This is not an easy job. The hermeneutic method towards the Bible (text) but also on culture (context). The encounter between the gospel and culture must be contextual so that it gives a very deep meaning to humans. However, it should be remembered that contextualization is not just a tool of evangelism or a strategy to evangelize so that people will become Christians. This writing is not only a memory but also hoped to be able to renew our souls and movements as members of the congregation, in general, is looking to the future and carrying out God's calling tasks during a dynamically moving world. Believe that the Spirit of God gives light so that we can read this article through the eyes of faith and knowledge.

Abstract

Since its formation, the GMIT Galed Kelapa Lima Congregation has still faced problems of social morality in Kelapa Lima Village, Kupang City. The problem of morality has not diminished, but has become more prevalent nowadays due to the existence of traditional massage service places and bars at the Sasando Hotel and Citra Hotel around Galed residents, thus providing onsite and online access for covert prostitution services. This article aims to explore past tensions that have an impact on the present, by exploring the role of GMIT Galed Kelapa Lima in historical and contemporary contexts. This article uses a qualitative method with a Church History approach. Data collection techniques used, namely field research and literature review. The results of the research show that all this time the Galed church has focused on internal consolidation and set aside these issues. Therefore, I offer a holistic service model to answer the problem of social morality, namely: First, the importance of sex education in the family, educational institutions and the church. Second, develop the Galed ministry which focuses on Transformative Diakonia. Third, service management approach through SWOT analysis. Fourth, the Galed Church is partnering with the Kupang City Government to develop a shared vision for preventing covert prostitution.

Abstract

Cultural diversity in Indonesia acts as a catalyst for tolerance and the formation of a diverse society with values rooted in religion, local wisdom, and cultural heritage. However, the low level of spiritual understanding and inadequate cultural integration in East Nusa Tenggara have triggered the emergence of cases that disregard the human life cycle, such as the prevalence of abortion and suicide, as well as social and economic pressures that undermine the mental well-being of the community. Previous research delved into the local wisdom of the Timorese community, the historical aspects of the Timorese culture, and the Toit Ulan Ritual in Central Amanuban. This study focuses on the beliefs of Atoni Pah Meto in the Banamas Neonsaet (East Amanuban), exploring its cultural heritage and local beliefs. It aims to understand the impact of ceremonies on each life stage from the perspective of their local wisdom that contributing to the preservation of the community’s mental well-being. Utilizing qualitative methods and a phenomenological approach involving community leaders, the study employs observation, interviews, and documentation, with subsequent data reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings highlight that life-cycle ceremonies reflect values of familial bonds, cooperation, and harmony with nature. Marriage and funeral processes involve family roles in maintaining spirituality and warding off spiritual disturbances. Despite the influence of formal religion, traces of traditional beliefs persist, shaping a unique identity that harmonizes cultural heritage and religion. The research underscores the importance of preserving and understanding this cultural richness for the sustainability and harmony of the Atoni Pah Meto in the East Amanuban. Key words: East Amanuban, Ceremony, Life Cycle, Local Wisdom, Atoni Pah Meto.
