Abstract

Abstract

Oral bad habits are repeated actions carried out in the oral cavity that can cause malocclusion. Kinds of oral bad habits are showing thumbs, biting nails, breathing through the mouth, biting or licking the lips, and sticking out tongue or tongue thrusting. Oral bad habits will be impacted to increase overjet and reduce overbite. Parents' knowledge is an important factor in the oral bad habits of children. Improvement efforts can be carried out by using media counseling such as videos. The research was intended to measure the effect of using video to increase parents' knowledge about oral bad habits that causemalocclusion in children. This was a Pre-experimental study with a One Group Pretest-Posttest cross-sectional design. Measurements were carried out using a questionnaire. Questionnaires and videos were provided via a google form. The population were parents who have children aged 3-6 years in RT 003 RW 001 Pandan Baru Kota, Sample was taken with a total sampling of 40 people. The knowledge level was measured by a questionnaire. Data analysis was univariate and bivariate with Paired T-test. The results showed that the average of parents' knowledge before video intervention is 45% and after the video was given it increased to 71%. The research could be concluded that using video was effective to increased parents' knowledges about oral habits that causes malocclusion in childrens (p= 0.000)

Abstract

Mentawai white sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra) is one of the benthic fauna that can be used as a natural antibacterial treat-ment. White sea cucumber contains saponin, alkaloid and terpenoid compounds that have antibacterial effects. This study was conducted to determine the antibacterial effect of ethanol extract of Mentawai white sea cucumber against Streptococcus sa-nguinis, and to determine the concentration of ETP extract that is effective in inhibiting S.sanguinis which was carried out in a la-boratory experimental with a posttest only control group design. The extract was made using maceration extraction method. The inhibition zone test method used disc diffusion with 5 samples in each treatment group. The samples consisted of 5 treatment groups, namely 6%, 8%, 10% ETP extract; positive control chlorhexidine 0.2% and negative control ethanol 96%. Data analysis used independent t-test. The results showed that 6%, 8% ETP extract had no inhibition zone but 10% had an inhibition zone of 0.97 mm, 0.2% chlorhexidine of 5.164 mm and 96% ethanol had no inhibition zone. It is concluded that 10% mentawai ATP extract has an antibacterial effect against S.sanguinis but in the weak category and less effective at 0.2% chlorhexidine.

Abstract

During orthodontic treatment, patients will feel pain due to the pressure of the tooth movement mechanism. This condition can be controlled by administering drugs, one of which is a class of analgesics. As a result of taking drugs during orthodontic treatment is known to have side effects that can interfere with the orthodontic treatment process, one of which is the inhibited rate of tooth movement which will cause complications that can affect the goals of orthodontic treatment. This scoping review discusses the effect of analgesic drugs on orthodontic tooth movement and how certain analgesic drugs affect the rate of orthodontic tooth move-ment, which was carried out by literature study. Data obtained in the Google Scholar, Science Direct and PubMed databases show the inhibition of the rate of orthodontic tooth movement due to the drugs ibuprofen, nimesulide, morphine, codeine, methadone, high-dose tramadol, meloxicam, high-dose etoricoxib, aspirin and algocamin. These drugs inhibit the rate of tooth movement by blocking the prostaglandin synthesis pathway, which is key to orthodontic tooth movement. It is concluded that there is an effect of certain analgesic drugs on orthodontic tooth movement.
