Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out type of students’ motivation in English Online Learning, whether they had integrative or instrumental motivation. The method used in this research was descriptive quantitative and the technique sampling used in this research was random sampling. The researcher used survey method to analyze the data by distributing questionnaire. The population of this research were 47 students of the grade 8th in SMP N 2 Tondano who have facilities such as handphone and internet quota. The result of the findings of the research showed that type of students’ motivation in English Online Learning that they had was integrative motivation. It was suggested for teacher is expected to grow and maintain students learning motivation to always enjoy, be earnest in learning, and keep improving their language skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the comprehensibility of reading texts in textbook “Bahasa Inggris for Grade XII SMA/MA”. This research design using quantitative method that involved 25 participants of 12TH  grade students SMA N 1 Motoling Timur in academic year 2021/2022. The author used cloze test consisted of 8 texts to measure the comprehensibility of reading texts in textbook. Where the “exact words/ real words from texts were missing” used as evaluation method, than the score calculated by using percentage formula, after collect all score from students answers to got the  comprehensibility of reading texts in textbook and the result come out under 50% that’s mean the text was not comprehensible.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the form of sexism representation in the novel Looking for Alaska. This novel raises the issue of sexism against women which is addressed through the character of Alaska and other female characters. The researcher uses qualitative method with the semiotic approach of Roland Barthes. This study aims to determine the form of representation of sexism based on signs and meanings which are analyzed based on the meaning of Denotation, Connotation, and Myths that are formed about sexism in the Novel Looking for Alaska. The object that is the focus of the research consists of 5 dialogues quoted, which show sexist behavior and speech. The results of this study indicate that women are depicted as weak creatures, described as mere sexual objects, women are not smarter than men, women arguments are often considered trivial, used as objects by the media as branding to provoke men's desires, and are also considered to be troublesome for men.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the K-W-L technique is effective in increasing students’ reading comprehension or not. This study was conducted at SMP PGRI Poopo. The subject in this study were class VIII for the academic year 2021/2022 which consisted of 20 students. The design of this study was pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design. The pre-test was given before the treatment and post-test was given after the treatment. The data of this study is collection is through a given test. The data is analysis by comparing the mean score of the tests. Based on the results of the analysis, the mean score of the post-test (T2) is higher 83,75 than those of the pre-test (T1) 34,7. This means that students who were taught using the “KWL technique” scored higher in their reading comprehension that students who were not taught using the technique. So it can be concluded that the K-W-L technique is effective to increasing students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the various types of maxims that were breached in the first chapter of The Legend of Dragoon game. A descriptive qualitative approach was adopted for the study, and the data was gathered by recording statements made by characters in the game that violated the maxims. The data was obtained from both the game and its script, and notes were taken while observing and reading to identify occurrences of maxim violation. The outcomes revealed that all four types of maxims were broken by the characters in the game, with a total of 20 dialogues. The maxim of relevance was found to be the most frequently violated maxim, with seven instances, followed by the maxim of manner with six occurrences, the maxim of quality with four occurrences, and finally, the maxim of quantity in three instances

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whethe the use of the Think Pair Share learning model could increase student’s speaking ability or not. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Tondano. This reaserch used quantitative research through pre-experimental dwsigh with one group pre-test and post-test. The subject of this research were all students of class XI IPS consisting of 18 students, who were taken based on considerations which were then included in the research class group. Research data were obtained from the ability of researcher to manage learning and students test results in this research is an oral test using speaking measurement which has 5 points of assessment. The results of this research shows that the mean score of pre-test is 2.11 and the mean score of post-test is 4.27. This means that the result of post-test is higher than the pre-test. It can be concluded that there is a positive significant in the use of Think Pair Share learning model in increasing student’s speaking ability at SMA Negeri 2 Tondano

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine whether the use of Quizizz game-based learning applications can improve students' vocabulary mastery or not, especially in SMP Negeri 6 Tondano. In conducting this research, a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design was used. The subject of this research is one of the classes, namely the ninth grade (IX) at SMP Negeri 6 Tondano, totaling 15 students. Data collection instruments were pre-test (before treatment) and post–test (after treatment). The tests were in the form of multiple-choice and matching tests. The results of this study showed that the average scores of the post–test is higher (88.33) than the mean scores of the pre-test (43.33). Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the use of Quizizz game-based learning media was very effective and succeeded in improving students' vocabulary, especially on the meaning of words and equivalent meaning/synonyms, and making students more active and class learning more fun.
