Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan membahas pengaruh ide American Dream terhadap ambisi keluarga Younger pada drama berjudul A Raisin in the Sun karya Lorraine Hansberry. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori ambition dan the idea of American dream. Hasil analisis terhadap drama A Raisin in the Sun yang berhubungan dengan topic penelitian mengenai ambisi yang dipengaruhi oleh American Dream adalah (1) Lena Younger mempunyai ambisi untuk memiliki rumah untuk keluarganya walau rumah tersebut berada di lingkungan orang-orang kulit putih, (2) Walter Lee Younger mempunyai ambisi untuk menginvestasikan uang asuransi peninggalan almarhum ayahnya untuk membuka bisnis minuman keras, dan (3) sedangkan Beneatha Younger mempunyai ambisi untuk meneruskan sekolah kedokteran dan ingin mengungkap identitasnya sebagai keturunan orang Afrika. Semua ambisi yang dimiliki oleh ketiga anggota keluarga tersebut dipengaruhi oleh ide tetang American Dream. Ambisi yang mereka memiliki semata untuk mendapatkan kesempatan agar mereka diakui dan bisa hidup sejahtera di Amerika karena orang kulit hitam dianggap sebagai kaum inferior.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan membahas keburukan moral yang dilakukan oleh karakter utama perempuan, yaitu Emma Bovary. Data yang digunakan diambil dari novel berjudul Madam Bovary karangan Gustave Flabert, seorang penulis novel asal Perancis. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori moralitas dan teori keburukan moral. Ada tiga pendekatan yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data, yaitu moral, psychological, dan sociological approaches. Metode pengumpulan data adalah studi kepustakaan. Keburukan moral yang dilakukan oleh Emma Bovary, yaitu kurangnya insting ibu dan perselingkuhan. Ketika Emma mengetahui bahwa anaknya adalah seorang bayi perempuan, dia merasa kecewa dan semakin besar anak itu, semakin berkuranglah insting seorang ibu. Selanjutnya, ketika Emma menyadari bahwa pernikahannya dengan Charles Bovary mengecewakan, Emma mengkhianati suaminya dan berhubungan dengan laki-laki lain agar semua keinginan dan mimpinya terpenuhi.

Abstract

The research aimed to discuss the elements of nature in the poem entitled “Woman Work” written by Maya Angelou. The speaker of the poem used nature as the object of escapism. The research used some theories to meet the topic of discussion. The basic theories of the research were symbol, imagery and figures of speech. They were two figures of speech as the poetic devices in the poem: personification and apostrophe. They were two supporting theories that dealt with the topic, i.e. nature and escapism. There were two approaches that were used: structural and formalistic approaches. Library research is the technique of collecting data. The finding of the research was that the speaker of the poem endowed the elements of nature (which are non-living objects) with human qualities in an attempt to feel less lonely. In the absence of human company, it was the sun, the rain, the snow, dewdrops, the wind, the sky, mountains, oceans, leaves, stones, “star shine” and “moon glow” that were her friends. “Woman Work” was a very domestic poem depicting the typical routine life of a woman who performed her daily chores effectively and then yearned for a fantastic break amidst the elements of nature to give her strength and comfort. Keywords: nature, escapism, symbol, imagery, personification

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan membahas permasalahan yang berhubungan dengan pengaruhpengaruh penindasan ras yang dialami oleh Bigger Thomas pada novel Richard Wrightberjudul Native Son. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori oppression dan setting yaitu Great Depression in the 1930’s America.Ada beberapa temuan setelah analisis dilakukan yang berhubungan dengan pengaruh penindasan ras yang dialami oleh Bigger Thomas. Kebencian dan kemarahan Bigger Thomaskarena dia merasa tidak berguna bagi orang di sekitarnya terutama keluarganya yang bergantung hidup padanya. Pengaruh selanjutnya adalah kejahatan yang dilakukan olehBigger Thomas. Dia melakukan tindak kejahatan minor pada keluarga dan temannya, terlebih lagi, dengan membunuh seorang wanita kulit putih, Mary Dalton dan kekasihnya sendiri,yaitu Bessie.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan gambaran penderitaan perang. Wilferd Owen, penulis puisi Inggris, menceritakan penderitaan perang yang dialami seorang anak muda dalam puisinya "Disabled". Owen hidup pada masa Perang Dunia Pertama dan bergabung dalam Angkatan Bersenjata Inggris. Wilfred Owen  dikenal sebagai penulis puisi yang bertemakan Perang. "Disabaled" menceritakan penderitaan tentara muda yang bergabung dalam Perang Dunia Pertama. Owen menggunakan ironi dalam mengungkapkan perbedaan antara mimpi dan kenyataan. Impian sebelum bergabung dalam perang berbeda dengan kenyataan  setelah kembali dari perang dengan keadaannya yang tidak sempurna. Pada puisi "Disabled",  Wilfred Owen mengungkapkan secara tersirat bahwa perang telah menghancurkan kehidupan para korbannya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas humanity (sisi kemanusian) dalam puisi Robert Frost yang berjudul “Nothing Gold Can Stay”. Dengan tujuan utama untuk menggambarkan gaya bahasa, personifikasi yang berhubungan dengan humanity (sisi kemanusian) pada puisi Robert Frost berjudul “Nothing Gold Can Stay”. Teori utama yang relevan, yaitu terori gaya bahasa dan personifikasi. Data penelitian ini adalah setiap baris pada puisi Robert Frost tersebut, dan metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif, serta studi kepustakaan merupakan teknik pengumpulan data analisis. Ada dua pendekatan yang digunakan dalam menganalisis data, yaitu pendekatan structural dan formalis. Dalam puisi “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, pembicara menggunakan gaya bahasa, personifikasi dalam menggambarkan alam dan dapat diperluas sehingga mengungkapkan hal yang berhubungan dengan humanity (sisi kemanusian).  The finding of the research was the most significant meaning could be taken away from "Nothing Gold Can Stay" is that, nothing gold can stay. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa Hal yang paling indah dalam hidup seringkali tak berumur panjang. Dalam puisi “Nothing Gold Can Stay” terdapat contoh-contoh ungkapan figuratif, seperti spring blooms, the Garden of Eden, dan sunrise untuk menyampaikan kepada pembaca agar memikirkan semua hal dalam kehidupan yang begitu indah ini begitu sementara. Entah itu euforia memenangkan pertandingan sepak bola, atau kematangan pikiran dan tubuh kita, pasti semua orang mengalami sesuatu yang indah yang dapat memudar dengan sangat cepat.

Abstract

This Society Service Program aimed to explore the unique tourism offered by Gunungsari Tourism Village of Kabupaten Madiun. Gunungsari people, through their Tourism Awareness Group (Kelompok Sadar Wisata) Sentono Taruno Puroboyo has offered Javanese Culture tourism packages which are branded as “Backdoor Tourism” and “Kampung Ajar Kejawen”. The programs arranged to develop this tourism village have been modified to fit in Covid 19 pandemic situation. The programs are documentary literature writing, Javanese culture-themed short story competition, bilingual travel guide, English for tourism training, protective health gear procurement for tourism place, Javanese manuscript writing on lontar leaves, and decorative display made of “Janur Kuning” (young leaf of big palm tree) through youtube channel, and digital technology training. Therefore, some methods and approaches are used in this program, including Participatory Rural Appraisal, Participatory Technology Development, Community Development, persuasive, and educative. This program has equipped Pokdarwis members with enough knowledge to communicate in English, manage the website and youtube channel, and supply their protective health gear. The direct impact of this program on Gunungsari tourism is the significant increase in the number of visitors coming on-site by applying strict health protocol in the tourism place to ensure tourist security.

Abstract

BTS stands for Bangtan Boys which is Bangtan Sonyeondan in Korean. It is a famous Korean boyband. Because of their worldwide fame, they have many fans from all around the world. With their different languages, the fans as known as ARMY accidentally produced register. There were certain words and phrases produced when they wrote comments in the comment section of BTS’ official Instagram account. BTS became one of the most popular boy groups in the world. Their Instagram account was followed by 69.8 million people in the world so that there are many registers were created through the comment section and it became interesting. The research aimed to find out the types of registers, linguistic forms of registers, and meaning of registers used by BTS fans on BTS's official Instagram account. The qualitative descriptive research method is used because it was appropriate to describe the register phenomenon with a common meaning and particular meaning. The finding showed that the register is divided into six types including BTS' Agency, BTS’ Nickname, BTS’ Show, BTS’ Song, BTS’ Tagline, and K-Pop Nickname. The most dominant type of register is BTS’ Nickname because their fans created many nicknames for BTS’ members. The type that is not frequently found is BTS’ Agency because BTS only works in two agencies. The dominant linguistic form found in the research was compounding because the unique culture of BTS makes BTS fans use various terms in compounding form. On the contrary, the verb is rarely found because verbs are only used to create taglines. Depending on the context, BTS fan registers have different meanings.

Abstract

The research aims to discuss the concepts of ecocriticism in Robert Frost’s poems. There are two poems that will be discussed, namely “Out, Out-“ and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” The two poems are chosen as the primary data of the research because both poems depicts human and nature interaction. Ecocriticism itself is a literary theory that examines the relationship between literature and the natural world. It focuses on the setting of the two poems and human and nature relation. Descriptive research is chosen as the method of research because this research aims accurately describes a phenomenon of human and natural world in Robert Forst’s poems. In terms of literary study, there are three literary approaches that are relevant in the research. Structural and formalist approaches are the general ones when the research takes data from a poem, while the specific literary approach is ecocriticism approach. “Out, Out-“ and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” are two of Robert Frost’s poem that portray the relation between human and natural world. They can be analyzed through ecocritical lens to explore the complex interplay between humans and nature, ecological consequences of human actions, and the intersection of human existence and the natural world.
