Abstract

The research aims to discuss the social class in French society, that is, Bourgeoisie. The objectives of the research are to portray the failure of bourgeoisie in Gustave Flaubert’s Madam Bovary and the effects of the failure of bourgeoisie toward two main characters, Emma Bovary and Charles Bovary. The main theories that are used to analyze the data are Marxism, bourgeoisie and setting. While, the method of the research is descriptive method and library research is used as the technique of collecting data. There are four approaches used, that is, moral and philosophical approach, historical biographical approach, psychological approach and sociological approach. The findings of the research are failure of bourgeoisie when Flaubert mocks the bourgeois class’s pretensions to knowledge and learning and its faith in the power of technologies that it does not completely understand. Emma becomes discontented and rebellious, while Charles is devoted to Emma and ashamed of his downfall.

Abstract

This research discussed the depiction of Norse mythology and personification in M.L. Kiser’s“Tree of Life”. The aims of this research were to give a depiction of the Norse mythologyabout tree of life and to analyze the personification dealing with mother nature of Norsemythology in M.L. Kiser’s “Tree of Life”. In finding the data, library research was appliedas the technique of collecting the data. The data consisted of ideas related to Yggdrasil innorse mythology and personification that were depicted in M.L. Kiser’s poem. The theory ofmythology, Norse mythology, Norse legend of the tree of world, humanity, mother andpersonification were applied in this research. Furthermore, the approach that were usedwere mythological approach, ideological approach, archetypal approach, structuralapproach, and formalist approach. The result of this research was the whole stanza tellingthe act of Yggdrasil from the beginning of the world until the world fell into two contradictivesides. Moreover, it also told the act of Yggdrasil as a mother who took care of her children.In conclusion, by analyzing this poem, the researcher knows that Yggdrasil as the tree of lifegave life to all over the creatures.

Abstract

This Society Service Program aimed to explore the unique tourism offered by Gunungsari Tourism Village of Kabupaten Madiun. Gunungsari people, through their Tourism Awareness Group (Kelompok Sadar Wisata) Sentono Taruno Puroboyo has offered Javanese Culture tourism packages which are branded as “Backdoor Tourism” and “Kampung Ajar Kejawen”. The programs arranged to develop this tourism village have been modified to fit in Covid 19 pandemic situation. The programs are documentary literature writing, Javanese culture-themed short story competition, bilingual travel guide, English for tourism training, protective health gear procurement for tourism place, Javanese manuscript writing on lontar leaves, and decorative display made of “Janur Kuning” (young leaf of big palm tree) through youtube channel, and digital technology training. Therefore, some methods and approaches are used in this program, including Participatory Rural Appraisal, Participatory Technology Development, Community Development, persuasive, and educative. This program has equipped Pokdarwis members with enough knowledge to communicate in English, manage the website and youtube channel, and supply their protective health gear. The direct impact of this program on Gunungsari tourism is the significant increase in the number of visitors coming on-site by applying strict health protocol in the tourism place to ensure tourist security.

Abstract

BTS stands for Bangtan Boys which is Bangtan Sonyeondan in Korean. It is a famous Korean boyband. Because of their worldwide fame, they have many fans from all around the world. With their different languages, the fans as known as ARMY accidentally produced register. There were certain words and phrases produced when they wrote comments in the comment section of BTS’ official Instagram account. BTS became one of the most popular boy groups in the world. Their Instagram account was followed by 69.8 million people in the world so that there are many registers were created through the comment section and it became interesting. The research aimed to find out the types of registers, linguistic forms of registers, and meaning of registers used by BTS fans on BTS's official Instagram account. The qualitative descriptive research method is used because it was appropriate to describe the register phenomenon with a common meaning and particular meaning. The finding showed that the register is divided into six types including BTS' Agency, BTS’ Nickname, BTS’ Show, BTS’ Song, BTS’ Tagline, and K-Pop Nickname. The most dominant type of register is BTS’ Nickname because their fans created many nicknames for BTS’ members. The type that is not frequently found is BTS’ Agency because BTS only works in two agencies. The dominant linguistic form found in the research was compounding because the unique culture of BTS makes BTS fans use various terms in compounding form. On the contrary, the verb is rarely found because verbs are only used to create taglines. Depending on the context, BTS fan registers have different meanings.

Abstract

The research aims to discuss the concepts of ecocriticism in Robert Frost’s poems. There are two poems that will be discussed, namely “Out, Out-“ and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” The two poems are chosen as the primary data of the research because both poems depicts human and nature interaction. Ecocriticism itself is a literary theory that examines the relationship between literature and the natural world. It focuses on the setting of the two poems and human and nature relation. Descriptive research is chosen as the method of research because this research aims accurately describes a phenomenon of human and natural world in Robert Forst’s poems. In terms of literary study, there are three literary approaches that are relevant in the research. Structural and formalist approaches are the general ones when the research takes data from a poem, while the specific literary approach is ecocriticism approach. “Out, Out-“ and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” are two of Robert Frost’s poem that portray the relation between human and natural world. They can be analyzed through ecocritical lens to explore the complex interplay between humans and nature, ecological consequences of human actions, and the intersection of human existence and the natural world.
