Abstract

The background of this research is the low mathematical understanding skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Ajibarang. This study aims to develop educational game learning media with an ethnomathematics approach based on Banyumas culture in Geometry material that is valid and effective in improving mathematical understanding skills. The research method used Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model. The population of this study includes all seventh-grade students, and the sample used in this study consists of class VII-B as the experimental class and class VII-A as the control class, with each class comprising 34 students. The results of this study indicate that the educational game learning media with an ethnomathematics approach based on Banyumas culture in Geometry material is valid, with an average percentage of 90.48% from material experts, 92.50% from media experts, 83.08% from mathematics teachers, 93.67% from small group trials, and 88.13% from field trial. The educational game learning media with an ethnomathematics approach based on Banyumas culture is also declared effective in improving students' mathematical understanding skills in Geometry material, as evidenced by the t-test result Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05. Since the average N-Gain score of the experimental class is 0.73, which is higher than the average N-Gain score of the control class, which is only 0.43, it can be concluded that the educational game learning media with an ethnomathematics approach based on Banyumas culture is effective in improving the mathematical understanding skills of seventh-grade students in Geometry.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding ability is one of several basic mathematical abilities to be mastered and improved by students. Good mastery of this ability can support the development of advanced mathematical abilities. However, the students at SMPN 1 Paguyangan demonstrated low levels of mathematical understanding, which was partly due to monotonous lecture-based instruction and the rare use of interactive media to aid comprehension. This study aimed to develop Augmented Reality (AR)-based mathematics learning media using Assemblr Edu that were valid and effective in improving the mathematical understanding ability of ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Paguyangan. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The results showed that the AR-based mathematics learning media developed using Assemblr Edu for the topic of "Three-Dimensional Shapes with Curved Surfaces" were declared valid and feasible, with scores of 80% from material experts, 91.6% from media experts, and 94.5% from mathematics teachers. Student responses were also positive, with average scores of 80.54% in the small group test and 78.48% in the field test. Furthermore, the pretest and posttest data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test, which produced a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), leading to the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of H₁. The experimental group achieved an average N-Gain score of 0.771 (categorized as “High”), while the control group obtained a score of 0.357 (“Medium”), indicating that the developed learning media effectively improved students’ mathematical understanding.

Abstract

The lack of understanding of mathematics in class X SMA Muhamadiyyah 1 Purbalingga triggered this research. The average score of the initial test of students' mathematical understanding abilities that the researchers conducted was 59.6. Interviews with mathematics teachers in class X showed that textbooks were the only form of teaching material. The aim of this research is to create Android-based mobile learning media on opportunity material aimed at improving the mathematical understanding of class X students. Samples were taken from two classes to become the research population (X-A, experimental, X-B control) in class Based on the research results, class X students benefited from using Android-based mobile learning media on opportunity material. Experts in the field validate the media level at 90.00%. Teacher response reached 80%. Prerequisite tests, including normality and homogeneity, were carried out before the sample t test was carried out to show that, at a Sig (2-tailed) significance level of 0.000 0.05, there was a difference in the average N-Gain scores between the two groups. This shows that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. The average N-Gain score for the experimental class was 0.76, higher than the N-Gain score for the control class, which was 0.265. The results show that the Android-based mobile learning learning media uses opportunity material. Class X students of SMA Muhamadiyyah 1 Purbalingga showed a significant increase in mathematical understanding after using Android-based mobile learning.  Keywords: Mobile Learning, Learning Media, Mathematical Understanding

Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of an educational game as a learning medium for mathematics, specifically on algebra material, in improving the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which used the educational game, and the control class, which used conventional lecture methods. The validation results show that the developed educational game has a high level of validity. Validation by material experts obtained an average score of 80% (valid), while validation by media experts reached 88.5% (very valid). The attractiveness test involving teachers and students showed highly positive results, with an average score from mathematics teachers of 94.3%, a small group trial result of 90.2%, and a field trial result of 84.71% (all categorized as very attractive). The effectiveness of the game was analyzed using the N-Gain test. The results showed that the average N-Gain in the experimental class was 0.73 (high category), while the control class only reached 0.46 (medium category). This indicates that using educational games is more effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities than conventional lecture methods. Students who used the educational game demonstrated improvement in all indicators of problem-solving ability, such as understanding the problem, planning a solution, carrying out the plan, and reviewing the result. Therefore, the educational game developed in this study is proven to be valid and effective as a learning medium for mathematics, particularly in algebra. The use of educational games can serve as an innovative alternative to enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the critical thinking ability of mathematical and self-confidence of grade VIII students of MTs Ma’arif NU 1 Kedungbanteng which are still relatively low. The learning process that encourages the development of students' cognitive and affective abilities is influenced by the learning model used in the learning process itself. The purpose of this study was to analyze whether the snowball throwing learning model with a contextual approach has an effect on students' critical thinking ability of mathematical and self-confidence. This research is a field research using quantitative methods and an experimental approach. The population of this study was all 8th grade students totaling 161, with random sampling obtained 8th grade B as the control class and 8th grade D as the experimental class. The data analysis technique used the N-Gain test, normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. Based on the results of the study, there is an influence of the snowball throwing learning model with a contextual approach on students' critical mathematical thinking skills and self-confidence. This is evidenced by the significance of the independent sample t-test on the average N-Gain value of 0.001 <0.05. The average N-Gain of the experimental class is 0.611 which is included in the fairly effective category and higher than the average N-Gain of the control class of 0.375 which is included in the ineffective category.

Abstract

Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan guru mata pelajaran matematika di SLB Negeri Mandiraja menunjukan bahwa siswa belum dapat memahami konsep matematika secara baik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh pendekatan matematika realistik terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa SLB-B Negeri Mandiraja. Jenis penelitian berupa penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian one group pre-test post-test yang menggunakan teknik pengambilan sampel berupa sampling jenuh. Berdasarkan perbandingan nilai pre-test dan post-test dengan rentang nilai yaitu 0 sampai 27 memiliki nilai tertinggi pre-test adalah 10 dan nilai terendah adalah 7 mengahasilkan rata-rata nilai 8,5, sedangkan nilai tertinggi post-test adalah 25 dan nilai terendah adalah 22 menghasilkan rata-rata nilai 21,5. Perhitungan uji N-Gain mengasilkan rata-rata 0,798 merupakan termasuk dalam kriteria tinggi. Hal ini menunjukan adanya pengaruh pendekatan matematika realistik terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa kelas VII SLB-B Negeri Mandiraja pada materi perkalian.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan pada desa Karanggedang, Kecamatan Bukateja, Kabupaten Purbalingga. Kegiatan yang dilakukan salah satunya demonstrasi mengenaipencegahan adanya COVID-19 dengan cara mencuci yang baik dan benar, sesuai dengan langkah-langkah yang dianjurkan oleh pemerintah. Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat pada DesaKaranggedang Kecamatan Bukateja Kabupaten Purbalingga. Kegiatan ini berlangsung di 2 Sekolah Dasar dan 1 Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI),yaitu SD N 1 Karanggedang, SD N 3 Karanggedang danMI Ma’arif NU Karanggadang 2. Di SD N 1 Karanggedang berlangsung pada tanggal 25 Agustus2022 , Sd N 3 Karanggedang, dan di MI Ma’arif NU Karanggedang 2 pada tanggal 6 Agustus 2022.Dengan adanya penyuluhan pola hidup bersih dan sehat dengan cuci tangan di air mengalir yangdiberikan kepada para siswa atau murid kelas 1 SD atau MI ini merupakan suatu upaya dalammemberikan pengetahuan dan informasi kepada para siswa atau murid betapa pentingnya mencuci tangan. Metode yang dilakukan adalah dengan cara teknik mendongeng agar siswa lebih tertarik dan tidak merasa bosan ketika sedang dilakukannya sosialisasi cara mencuci tangan ini.Pemberian informasi atau pengetahuan tentang pola hidup bersih dan sehat melalui cuci tangandi air mengalir menggunakan sabun adalah suatu proses yang sangat bermanfaat untuk menciptakan kepribadian baru yang sehat dan baik.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop an ethnomathematics-based digital module that is valid and effective in improving mathematical understanding. The type of research method is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. The results show that the ethnomathematics-based digital module is declared valid and effective for improving mathematical understanding. The validation percentage results for material and ethnomathematics context experts were 80%, media experts 80%, teachers 90%, small group tests 71.95%, and field tests 78.80% showing valid criteria. Furthermore, the t-test for two independent samples shows that there is a difference in the average mathematical understanding of the two sample classes with a sig(2-tailed) significance value of 0.000 < 0.050. The effectiveness of the ethnomathematics-based digital module on opportunity material is shown by an increase in mathematical understanding in the experimental class, namely an average N-Gain score of 0.800 in the “High” category, higher than the control class with an average N-Gain score of 0.310 in the “Medium” category. Therefore, the conclusion obtained is that the ethnomathematics-based digital module on opportunity material is effective in improving mathematical understanding.

Abstract

The low mathematical comprehension among 8th-grade students at MTs Al-Hidayah Purwokerto drove this research. Factors contributing to this low ability include the use of conventional learning media, which is less attractive to students, leading them to easily become bored and encounter greater difficulty in understanding lessons. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of using educational game-based learning media to enhance students' mathematical understanding skills in 8th grade. An experimental approach was employed in this study, with a population consisting of 56 students from the 8th grade at MTs Al-Hidayah Purwokerto. Saturated sampling was conducted, encompassing all 8th-grade students as the research sample. Consequently, Class 8A, comprising 28 students, was designated as the experimental group, while Class 8B, with 28 students, served as the control group. The research's conclusive outcomes indicate that using educational game-based media effectively improves students' mathematical understanding abilities. The N-Gain value for the experimental group is 0.83, which falls within the high category, whereas the N-Gain value for the control group is 0.37, categorized as medium. Thus, it can be inferred that educational game-based media is effective as a learning medium for 8th-grade mathematics material at MTs Al-Hidayah Purwokerto.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving abilities are a crucial part of the mathematics curriculum, necessary for solving real-life problems. The mathematical problem-solving abilities of students at Bustanul Ulum Paguyangan Middle School remain low, as the learning approach is conventional and the teaching materials are limited to textbooks. This research aims to develop an Islamic context-based module on circular material that is both valid and effective in improving the mathematical problem-solving abilities of class VIII students at Bustanul Ulum Paguyangan Middle School. The type of research is Research and Development (R&D). The results indicate that the Islamic context-based module is valid according to the material expert validation and Islamic context, which received a score of 85.41%, media expert validation at 80%, mathematics teacher trials at 81.67%, small group trials at 83.28%, and field trials at 81.71%. Furthermore, the module was found to be effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities, with an average N-Gain score for the experimental class of 0.80 (high category), better than the control class's average N-Gain score of 0.40 (medium category). Based on these results, a t-test for two independent samples resulted in a value of 0.00, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore,  is rejected and  is accepted, indicating that the Islamic context-based module is valid based on material and media expert tests, teacher trials, small group trials, and field trials, and is effective in improving the mathematical problem-solving abilities of class VIII students at Bustanul Ulum Paguyangan Middle School.
