Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of strain, density and their interaction on mortality and body weight of broiler chicken raised in the closed houses. The data was obtained from 60 broiler farms in the Central Java province. Three strains were Cobb, CP 707, and Loghman. The density level was classified into three groups:  £10,  >10 to <15, and  ³ 15 birds/m2. Parameters observed were mortality and body weight in the first week to the fifth week (M1, M2, M3, M4, and M5) and (BB1, BB2, BB3, BB4 dan BB5), respectively. Test of significance effect for strain and density was performed using Mixed procedure of Statistical Analysis System (SAS) University Edition V.6p.2. software. The results showed that density was significant (P<0,01) on the first week (M1), their interaction was (P<0,01) on M1 and (P<0,05) on the fourth week (M4), but not significant on body weight. The conclusion from this study there was an interaction between genetic and environment on mortality one week after chick in and nearly harvesting.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to identified genetic diversity of muscovy duck in Central Java through blood protein polymorphisms by using electrophoresis method.Methods: Blood sample was collected from a total of 60 muscovy ducks from the districts of Demak, Magelang and Pekalongan, 20 samples each. The Electrophoresis Polyacrylamide Gel of Electrophoresis–Thin Layer Electrophoresis (PAGE-TLE) was used in this study. Parameters observed were protein of albumin (Alb), ceruloplasmin (Cp), transferrin (Tf) and amylase-I (Am-I). Gene frequency, heterozygosity (Ho) and genetic distance were analyzed by using DISPAN program.Results: The results showed that the Alb, Cp, Tf and Am-I of muscovy duck showing polymorphic characters. Gene frequency of AlbB (0.61) was higher compared to AlbA (0.39). Gene frequency of CpA (0.62) was higher than the CpB (0.38). Furthermore, gene frequency of TfA and TfB were 0.32 and 0.68, respectively as well as gene frequency of Am-IA (0.82) was higher than Am-IB (0.18). Muscovy duck population of Demak showed higher Ho value for Alb and Am-I, whereas Magelang showed higher value for Cp and Tf. Population of muscovy duck of Demak showed closer genetic distance to Pekalongan than Magelang.Conclusions: The protein blood locus of three population of muscovy duck in Central Jawa showed polymorphic characters.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keragaman morfomtrik kelinci New Zealand White berdasarkan se dan ketinggian tempat. Bahan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 200 ekor kelinci dengan umur bulan lebih. Penelitian ini dilakukan di lokasi dengan ketinggian yang berbeda yaitu pada dataran rendah di wilayah Pleret Bantul Yogyakarta dengan ketinggian 0-250 meter di atas permukaan laut, pada dataran sedang di kabupaten magelang, Kendal dan Semarang dengan ketinggian 250-750. meter di atas permukaan laut dan pada ketinggian yang terletak di daerah temanggung dengan ketinggian lebih dari 750 meter di atas permukaan laut. Parameter yang digunakan adalah panjang kepala, lebar kepala, panjang telinga, lebar telinga, lingkar dada, dada bagian dalam, lebar dada, panjang tulang femur, panjang ulna-radius, panjang tulang tibia, dan panjang badan. Data dianalisis dengan desain klasifikasi two way dan uji rata-rata Tukey. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan ukuran tubuh yang signifikan (P<0,05) antara jantan dan betina, yaitu pada lebar kepala, panjang telinga, lebar telinga, radius ulna panjang, dan panjang tulang skapula. Terdapat perbedaan (P<0,05) ukuran tubuh kelinci di dataran rendah, dataran sedang, dan dataran tinggi, tose terdapat pada lebar kepala, lebar telinga, lingkar dada, lebar dada, tampilan radius ulna, tulang skapula panjang, dan lebar pinggul sedangkan pada variabel panjang kepala, panjang tulang femur, panjang tulang tibia, dan panjang badan tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang mencolok. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perbedaan ukuran tubuh yang signifikan antara jarak pandang dan ketinggian tempat. Kata kunci : New Zealand White, kelinci, keanekaragaman morfometrik
