Abstract

Cantikgrouper is the hybridization results grouper or cross-breeding between Epinephelus fuscoguttatus as a female and Epinephelus microdon as a male. The main barriers faced in the development of this commodity is still low levels of spawning up to seeding grouper. Based on the background, this study aimed to investigate optimum temperature observations against the rate of embryonic development Epinephelus sp.larvae. This study used the results of artificial spawning eggs. The fertilized eggs were incubated on six pieces of the container temperature treatment;each treatment there was repeated three times. The incubation temperature was kept on (A) 21-22°C; (B) 23-24°C; (C) 25-26°C; (D) 27-28°C; (E) 29-30°C; (F) 31-32°C. Results showed that eggswere incubated at a temperature of 21-22 ℃ embryonic development to a halt in the blastula, and temperature 23-24°C stalled on phasemyomere embryos. The low-temperature incubation period lasts a long time. Temperature 25-26°C needed 18 hours 6 minutes by 8.33% abnormality rate. Temperature 27-28°C needed 16 hours to hatch witha degree of abnormality of 7.6%. Temperature 29-30°C needed 15 hours 1 minute for the hatch tothe degree of abnormality of 5.33%. The 31-32°C temperature needed 14 hours 6 minutes to hatch witha degree of abnormality of 17.3%. The limits of tolerance for the incubation of the eggs ofcantik grouper (Epinephelusspp.) were 26-32°C.The best temperature of each treatment were obtained at a temperature of 29-30°C. Based on our results, it concluded that the changing temperature affected how long eggs could hatch.

Abstract

Boesemani rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani) is a freshwater ornamental fish with high economic value and is endemic to Papua Island. This species is widely favored due to its distinctive morphology and unique coloration, characterized by an elongated and laterally flattened body, with bright blue coloration toward the head and bright orange coloration toward the caudal region. Male Boesemani rainbowfish are particularly preferred because of their more attractive and varied coloration. Masculinization is a method used to increase the production of male fish. One natural material that can be applied for masculinization is honeybee propolis extract. This study was conducted at the Fish Reproduction Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Brawijaya University, Malang, from December 2017 to January 2018. An experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was applied with four treatments and a control. The treatments consisted of immersion durations of 10, 12, 14, and 16 hours using a dose of 1 ppm. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The main parameters were the percentage of male fish and survival rate, while supporting parameters included growth rate and water quality. The highest percentage of males was obtained in treatment B (12 hours), reaching 62.35%, compared with 45.45%, 47.78%, 39.49%, and 11.82% in treatments A, C, D, and control, respectively. Survival rates ranged from 42.22% to 90%, while growth rates ranged from 0.0198 to 0.0211 g. Water quality remained within the observed ranges. The results indicate that immersion using propolis extract significantly influenced masculinization when applied at an optimal duration.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks 2 countries with a high level of plastic pollution. Plastic waste entering the Indonesian sea is estimated to reach 0.48-1.29 million metric tons/year. This microplastic is the result of the degradation of plastic waste and textile waste that decomposes to small size in a very long time . The river is the headwaters of various rivers and streams which have the potential to carry plastic particles . This makes it likely that the waters of the north sea are also polluted by microplastics, one of which is sourced from rivers . This research was conducted to find out how contaminated the northern sea waters by microplastics, especially estuary areas. The area sampled to be studied is one of the river estuaries in Pasuruan, at the Pasuruan river estuary which is then analyzed at the Laboratory of Fisheries, University of Muhammadiyah Malang . The results of the analysis found three types of microplastics, fiber, film, and fragments. Station 2 is the sampling area of the middle estuary area which results in the most abundance of microplastic abundance of 611111.1 particles/m3 . Microplastic types found were dominated by fiber types up to 55%. The most common microplastics found in the estuary waters of the Pateguran river are microplastics with sizes ranging from 1-333.3 µm . Based on FTIR results, it is suspected that there are microplastics derived from nylon or polyamide (PA) and polypropylene (PP) types.

Abstract

Water quality plays an important role in maintaining the health and survival of cultured vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). This study aimed to analyze water quality parameters and determine differences in the occurrence of Infectious Myonecrosis Virus (IMNV) between two intensive vannamei shrimp farming companies. The study was conducted in two intensive shrimp farming companies located in North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Water quality parameters were observed during the culture period, and the data were analyzed using an independent-samples t-test. The results indicated that water quality conditions were generally suitable for intensive vannamei shrimp culture. However, nitrite concentrations increased when pond siphoning was not performed on time. The independent-samples t-test showed no significant difference in the occurrence of myo virus disease or IMNV associated with water quality between Company A and Company B (0.898 > 0.05). The absence of a significant difference may be related to the geographical proximity of the two companies, which are located within the same regency and obtain seawater from the same coastline. Consequently, both farms may experience similar water-quality conditions and may be exposed to the same disease or virus simultaneously or alternately.

Abstract

The ecosystems of mangrove are one of the unique coastal ecosystems which have ecological and socio-economic functions. Mangroves have a significant role in supporting fisheries resources. Leaf-litter is a nutrient contributor released to the sea water and is functioned by aquatic biota both in the marine and estuary. The method used in this study is purposive random sampling method which refer to the category based on mangrove density. The average production of mangrove litter Avicennia sp, for 30 days at station I was 1.04 g/m²/ day, station II was 1.20 g/m²/day, station III was 0.75 g/m²/day. The leaf-litter decomposition rate at station I, experienced a decomposition process of 65%, at station II at 62.33%, and station III at 69.42%. The content of nitrogen (N) and fosfor (P) nutrients at station I is an average of N 0.74% and P 0.07%, station II is N 0.76% and P 0.05%, station III is N 0.74% and P 0 , 07%. The total amount of nutrients released in the Mangrove Information Center forest area, Wonorejo - Surabaya is nitrogen (N) 443.81 kg/m²/year and phosphor (P) 34.103 kg/m²/year.
