Construction of sampi explained by content analysis technique. The finding showed the strata of language in the introduction contained initial call, salutation, and self-recognition. The body of sampi contained purpose, call, statement of offering (piring), commands, and dialogue with gods (Petara). The sampi ended with a blessing prayer. Construction of sampi used expressions of calling, statement, requesting, asking, and answering. The implication of the study showed that the language of strata cannot be fully summarized as the use of language depending on the experience and expertise of the bards. The expression that has been used is affected by the skills of the bard in addressing the language of strata.

Abstract

This research was conducted to identify the understanding of Form Four students and analyze the differences in mean achievement between the control and experimental groups on the mind map of Malay essays. This selection map was tested on 30 Form Four students at SMK Bahasa Malaysia, Saratok. Statistics were collected through the survey and quasi-experimental methods, and the peeled data was done quantitatively. The findings of this study show that the level of understanding of Form Four students is at a moderately high level because most students know the names and functions of each mind map introduced. Furthermore, the mean of post-test students taught using mind maps was higher than that taught using cooperative learning, which was a 1.8 difference. The increase in the experimental group's mean in this post-test showed that teaching Malay essays using mind maps improved student achievement in writing essays. This research can help Malay language teachers diversify their teaching techniques and help students master the writing of Malay language essays.

Learning Malay as a second language is not a simple process for non-native students, particularly Iban students. The study was conducted to look at the influence of Iban students’ motivation on the achievement in the Malay Language subject as a second language. A survey was conducted among fifty Form 4 Iban students at a national secondary school in Betong, Sarawak. A total of 27 questions were included in the set of questionnaires utilised as the instrument for this stud. y, which comprised motivational influence variables from one's self, family, environment, and peers. The data in this study was analysed using the descriptive and the inferential statistical methods via the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. The study found that the level of motivating influence of Iban students was high. However, the Pearson’s correlation analysis result showed that there is no significant association between the motivating influence of Iban students and their level of achievement in Malay Language’s subject as their second language. Thus, motivation is not a dominant factor that influences the Iban students’ achievement in the subject.
