Abstract

The quality of dried vanilla depends largely on the temperature control during drying. Vanilla is traditionally solar dried, thus the product quality is unpredictable and is extremely influenced by weather. In order to obtain a good quality product, the moisture content of the vanilla must be reduced gradually to a level of about 25-30%, hence the control of temperature during drying is very important. The study was aimed to design a temperature control instrument in such a process using a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) sensor, with an automatic on-off mechanism on a preset temperature level. The results showed that at a preset temperature of 50°, the automatic on mechanism of the instrument responded well when the temperature decreased to a level of 1-5oC from the preset temperature.   Key words: temperature control, drying, NTC sensor, vanilla

Abstract

Background: Spatial memory reduction in elderly is predicted to increase up to twice every 20 years. Spinach (Amaranthus hybridus) is widely consumed by Indonesian people and is believed to prevent declined spatial memory function. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of spinach on spatial memory in wistar rat induced by diazepam Methods: An experimental study was conducted during the period of October to November 2012 in Pharmacology and Therapy Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran. Twenty five wistar rats were divided into 5 groups; two groups as controls, and 3 groups were given 100, 200, and 400mg/kg BW ethanolic extract of spinach (EESL), respectively. On day 7, group 3, 4, and 5 were given 1 mg/kg BW diazepam injection. Morris water maze tests and calculations of escape latency time (ELT) were performed on day 7 and 8. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and least significance difference (LSD) test. Results: On day 7, group 2 experienced acceleration in ELT compared to group 4 and group 5. On day 8, group 2 experienced acceleration in ELT compared to group 3 and group 4. There was no significant increase in spatial memory in group 5 (EESL 400mg/kg BW) that due to the use of higher dosage does not always show better results. Conclusions: EESL can prevent impairment of spatial memory with an effective dose of 200 mg/kg BW.Keywords: Amaranthus hybridus, diazepam, spatial memory, spinach DOI: 10.15850/amj.v2n1.439

Abstract

Amphetamines and other amphetamine-like substances are known to interfere with other mental and physical conditions, such as impaired social functioning. The relationship between substance-related disorders and social factors, socioeconomic factors play an important role in the prognosis of patients with substance-related disorders. In fact, amphetamine use has been found to be associated with several markers of social adjustment disability such as crime, other substance use, unemployment, suicide and homicide. This study aims to determine the relationship between psychosocial factors and amphetamine dependence in Medan Plus rehabilitation. This research is a one-time unpaired observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The research sample was obtained by means of non-probability sampling consecutive sampling type by recruiting 76 subjects based on age, gender, education level and occupation as risk factors for amphetamine dependence, which were patients with amphetamine dependence who were treated at the Medan Plus Rehabilitation for more than 1 year. In identifying the period of use and substance use, an ASSIST (Assement Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test) assessment was carried out, it was called amphetamine independent, the value was ASSIST 0-26, and the amphetamine dependence was ASSIST 27. There was a significant relationship between age (p=0.017), gender (p=0.001) and amphetamine dependence. There was no significant relationship between education (p=0.505), occupation (p=0.220) and amphetamine dependence. Factors influencing amphetamine dependence were gender (OR= 15.93), occupation (OR= 0.556), and age (OR= 0.106).

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Ischemic stroke, a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide, occurs due to the disruption of blood flow to the brain, resulting in neuronal damage and death. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases, play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke by degrading the extracellular matrix and contributing to blood-brain barrier disruption, inflammation, and neuronal cell death. This systematic review aims to comprehensively evaluate the current evidence regarding the potential of MMPs as biomarkers for ischemic stroke diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic monitoring. Methods: A systematic search of electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) was conducted to identify relevant studies published between 2018 and 2024. Studies investigating the association between MMPs and ischemic stroke in human subjects were included. Data extraction and quality assessment were performed independently by two reviewers. Results: The search yielded 2,182 articles, of which 8 studies met the inclusion criteria. The included studies evaluated various MMPs, including MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-9, and MMP-12, in different biological samples (serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, and brain tissue) from ischemic stroke patients. The majority of studies reported elevated levels of MMPs in ischemic stroke patients compared to healthy controls, with MMP-9 being the most extensively studied. Furthermore, several studies demonstrated a correlation between MMP levels and stroke severity, functional outcome, and the risk of hemorrhagic transformation. Conclusion: The findings of this systematic review suggest that MMPs, particularly MMP-9, hold promise as potential biomarkers for ischemic stroke. However, further research is needed to validate their clinical utility and to explore their potential as therapeutic targets.

Abstract

Abstract: Human activities that have started using electronics have an effect on the condition of the evidence, namely the electronic device itself. The problem that arises as a problem in the verification process is the emergence of a variety of electronic transactions which then gave birth to certain electronic transactions, which on the other hand are evidence that can be used in the future. Even though the procedural law has not been proven through electronic evidence. If this phenomenon is ruled out, then evidence as an effort to provide certainty and truth about the existence of certain events will be hampered. Each piece of evidence has its own strength of evidence which has been determined by law. The type of research used in compiling this journal is library research by reviewing and researching various documents or literature, such as: books, fiqh books, laws and regulations, jurisprudence that are related to this research. The results of this study are how to prove by using Electronic Information evidence in a case in a religious court the same as submitting written or letter evidence, which is submitted in a civil trial, namely in the form of a copy or photocopy of the written evidence, and must be matched. with the original first. Electronic evidence brought to trial must be verified. If the evidence produced by the electronic object is true, then the electronic evidence must be classified as evidence.
