Abstract

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) sector has been recognized as an essential contributor to the economic development of Indonesia. However, the sustainability of MSMEs in Indonesia is still relatively low compared to the rest of ASEAN countries with similar levels of economic growth. This study aims to extend previous studies on the relationship between MSMEs characteristics and their sustainability by specifically including financial literation as a mediation role. This study used proportional random sampling as a sampling technique. A total of 191 MSMEs owner-managers questionnaire data were processed by using Partial Least Square analysis. This study confirmed the positive influence of MSMEs characteristics on financial literacy and financial literacy on the sustainability of MSMEs. Moreover, financial literation proves to be a significant mediator of MSMEs sustainability. This study suggests that MSMEs owner-managers need to be financially literate as it can enable them to make a good financial decision that can ensure their business sustainability.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the development of marine ecotourism and the community’s participation in marine ecotourism development in the Spermonde Archipelago. The findings were used as a foundation to create a conceptual framework for community empowerment in marine ecotourism in the Spermonde Archipelago. Methodology/Approach: The research was conducted on several islands in the Spermonde Archipelago, Makassar City, including Samalona Island, Kodingareng Keke Island, Barrang Caddi Island, and Lanjukang Island. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, and a literature review. The informants included local communities, government officials, the private sector, and academics. The data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. Results/Findings: The research developed a framework for community empowerment in marine ecotourism, focusing on improving political, economic, and environmental quality of life. Based on findings from the Spermonde Archipelago, it showed that ecotourism transformed natural resources into tourism products, leading to diverse community perceptions about its impacts. Community involvement was driven by economic motives but limited by knowledge and skills in integrating tourism and conservation. Nonetheless, communities had opportunities to participate in development, planning, and benefit distribution. Limitations: This research did not provide a detailed set of practical strategies based on the formulated community empowerment model. Contribution: This study contributed to the conceptual understanding by proposing a community empowerment model in the Spermonde Archipelago. This model was expected to serve as a theoretical reference for implementing community empowerment focused on social and environmental justice.

Abstract

Effective and efficient use of resources is the main strategy for the success or resilience of MSMEs. The management of internal resources is believed to be the main factor that supports the existence of MSMEs. Intangible knowledge resources are the most difficult to manage. Several previous studies have tried to reveal the importance of knowledge management. However, there has been no comprehensive discussion regarding the management of MSMEs. The main aim of this research is to comprehensively examine how knowledge management, from an intellectual capital perspective, provides real benefits for MSMEs. To provide a detailed description, we use several analysis methods. Bibliometric analysis, the PRISMA method, and systematic literature observation were used. Our source documents are based on the Scopus database. We found that there are at least 108 documents relevant to this research topic. In general, we see that the number of publications on this topic increases every year. The results of this research provide evidence of the contribution of intellectual capital to various sectors in various countries. The earliest literature we find on this topic comes from Italy and Brazil. We also found that China has contributed the most to the literature related to knowledge management. Apart from that, it is known that Indonesia contributes the most authors to the literature on this topic. Based on cluster analysis in the use of keywords, we can determine the scientific and systematic relationships in each previous literature. In this context, the findings of this research also provide predictions for further research, especially regarding intellectual capital management in MSMEs.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the service marketing mix for tourism development in Jenon Spring (Sumberjenon), a natural tourist attraction in Gunungronggo Village, Tajinan District, Malang Regency, Indonesia. This descriptive qualitative study uses empirical data that has gone through a SWOT analysis to identify internal and external factors that may influence tourism development in Jenon Spring. Data sources come from interviews with the Mata Air Jenon destination manager, Village Apparatus, and Tourists. The results of the study indicate that the service marketing mix has a positive effect on the development of this tourist attraction and should be considered when determining and designing strategies to develop the tourist attraction in attracting potential tourists. The results also found that support from other related parties, including the government, private institutions, and the community is essential. However, several weaknesses were also identified, including security, safety, and human resources. The unique traditions of the local community in Jenon Spring are strong development opportunities, while competition with other similar tourist attractions and weather-related constraints were identified as possible threats.
