Abstract

Fighting fish (Betta sp.) is endemic fresh water fish of Southeast Asia that has become one of Indonesias export commodities. Male fighting fish has brighter colour then the female. Mono-sexual male fighting fish population can be obtained through sex reversal method (female to male). However, male fighting fish suspected sex reversal results will likely have a low color intensity. This study aims to determine the effect of sex reversal using 17α-methyltestosterone hormone toward colour intensity of male fighting fish with XX genotype as the results of sex reversal and the original male fighting fish XY genotype. The research design consisted of 2 treatments with 3 replications. The determination of the observations grade toward the colour intensity of fighting fish is done by comparing the original colour of the fish using coloured paper Modified Toka Colour Finder (M-TCF) which were observed by 5 observers for the accuracy of the data. The results showed that there is significant effect of sex reversal using 17α-methyltestosterone hormone toward the colour intensity of the male fighting fish XX to XY males. On the whole, the mean observed colour intensity for P1 (with sex reversal) is 18.33 and P2 (without sex reversal) is 28.33, it shows that the P1 has lower brightness than P2.

Abstract

Water quality becomes the critical factor of successfully aqua culture process; especially this is in aquaculture of floating cages. Otherwise, unstable water quality could impact the negative effect toward aquatic ecosystem such as the large explosion of harmful phytoplankton population (HABs). The objective of this research is to analyze a relation between the water quality of floating cages and the growth of harmful phytoplankton population by using canocial corelation analysis. Water quality research includes its brightness, the deepness, disolved oxygen, salinity, pH, value of NO2, NO3, NH3, and PO4 and toxic phytoplankton obtained during the study also indicate the amount of phytoplankton growth The results were obtained 14 species of toxic phytoplankton in the study sites. Overall abundance of phytoplankton dominated by Choclodinium, Trichodesmium Erythraeum, Nitzschia Lanceolata dan Pseudo Nitzschia, where Choclodinium an abundance of phytoplankton with the highest density of 63 739 cells/l. Canonical correlation analysis on triplot diagram showed water quality includes : brightness, disolved oxygen, pH, NO2, NO3 and PO4 together to give effect to toxic phytoplankton abundance. Canonical correlation analysis also specifically indicate the abundance Choclodinium and Trichodesmium Erythraeum in floating nets of Ringgung Marines predominantly influenced by brightness, pH, value of NO3, and PO4.

Abstract

Plankton as a natural feed is thought to be a factor that affects the growth of hoven’s carp fry. Plankton abundance can be increased by the addition of organic fertilizers containing nutrients (nitrate and phosphate). Nutrients abundance can be increased by addition of fermented banana hump’s This research aimed to determine the use of fermented banana’s hump to increase the availability of natural feed nursery and the growth of hoven’s carp fry. The method of this research used a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications, i.e: P1 (control), P2 (5,0 ppm), P3 (7,5 ppm), and P4 (10,0 ppm) addition of fermented banana’s hump. The measured parameters were nitrate, phosphate, plankton abundance, growth and water quality. The results showed the dose of addition of banana weed fertilizer had an effect (P< 0.05) on the abundance of natural feed and the growth of hoven’s carp fry. Results of water quality measurement showed the parameters of temperature ranged from 25 to 27 °C, pH ranged from 6,23 to 7,53, DO ranged from 3,40 to 11,36 and ammonia from 0 to 0,001 mg/l. The recomended dosage of fermented banana’s hump was 10 ppm for 1 l of water media.

Abstract

Bumi Dipasena Sejahtera as part of Bumi Dipasena, which is managed by PT. Dipasena Citra Darmaja is the largest shrimp farming in Southeast Asia. Since operating in 1980, Bumi Dipasena has made production up to 200 tons/day. However, the current condition shows a decrease in total production to 30 – 40 tons/day from 16.000 operated ponds. Decreasing production is caused by declining water quality. This study aims to find out about nutrient loading and water suitability based on water quality criteria. Nutrient loading is determined from total production calculated from three different ponds. Suitability analysis was conducted by matching and scoring methods based on water quality measured at 7 sites in the inlet, outlet, and pond site. The result shows that nutrient loading has the highest value at the highest production. Water suitability analysis both of inlet and ponds include in suit marginal class (S3).
