Abstract

This study was carried out at the Animal House of Animal Production Faculty, University of Padjadjaran, from 21st March to 8th May 2003.  The objective of the research was to investigate the effects of transferring the rumen liquid of goat on the ram's carcass cuality and pelvic and kidney fat percentation. The number of experimental animal used were 14 lambs with a mean age of ± 10 months and body weight range of between 13.5 and 17.0 kg.            The animals were placed in a big animal house with tile roof, wooden floor, and wooden/wire wall.  The big animal house was then divided into 14 pens with an individual size of               1.0 x 0.75m in each of which was confined an experimental animal. The diet of the animals during the experimental period was field grass having contents of 21.83% dry matter, 12.25% crude protein, and 30.25% crude fibre. The grass was offered ad libitum without concentrate addition. Data collected were analysed with t test with two treatments: DK = control rams and               DP = treatment rams (goat's rumen fluid as much as 50% of rumen wight). The results of study showed that rumen fluid transfer increased (P<0.05) the recipients carcass quality and             the pelvic and kidney fat percentation. Key words : Rumen fluid transfer, carcass cuality, pelvic and kidney.

Abstract

The  experiment on cocoa-pod husk processing by soaking it in KOH solution and fermenting    it with Saccharomyces sereviceae was conducted to study its effects on ruminal concentration of total VFA and ammonia in Kacang goat. The study was carried out with a 2x4 factorials randomized design. The first factor was soaking treatment (soaked in KOH solution or not soaked), while the second factor was 4 levels of Saccharomyces sereviceae concentrations (0, 5, 10, and 15%). Each treatment was repeated three times. Responses of soaking treatment on parameters observed were analyzed with a t test while those of Saccharomyces sereviceae levels were tested with a polynomial orthogonal test. Results indicated that there were no interactions between the soaking treatment and concentrationa of Saccharomyces sereviceae in affecting parameters observed. Concentrations of rumen VFA increased with increasing levels of Saccharomyces sereviceae. Soaking in KOH solution increased rumen fluid VFA concentration, but decreased that of rumen ammonia in Kacang goat

Abstract

This study was conducted at experimental pens from May 19th to August 11st 2005, for 10 weeks in Pengawu village, South Palu district, Palu Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. This study aims at determining effect of sex on body temperature, pulse and respiration frequencies of Kacang goat. The experimental animal used consisted of 15 male goats and 15 female goats, aged around 10 months old with their body weight between 10.10 and 16.10 kg from local farmer at Palu Regency and its surroundings. The animals were placed at 30 individual pen of 75 X 75 X 75 cm. Each pen was equipped with feed and water troughs. Data collected were analyzed and tested with T – test with consisting of two treatments Kj (Male Kacang goat) and Kb (female kacang goat). Statistical analysis of T-Test indicated that body temperature, respiration frequency and pulse frequency of male goat were higher (P<0.05) those of female Kacang Goat. Key words : Body temperature, pulse frequency, sex and respiration frequency.

Abstract

An experiment on processing cocoa pod by soaking it in KOH solution and fermenting it with Saccharomyces sereviceae was conducted to improve its nutrient quality and it effects on Kacang goat’s physiological responses. This study was carried out with a 2x4 factorially randomized design. The first factor was soaking treatment (soaked in KOH solution or not soaked), while the second factor was 4 levels of Saccharomyces cerevisiae concentration in diets (0, 5, 10, and 15%). Each treatment was repeated three times. Responses of soaking treatment on parameters observed were analyzed with a t test while those of Saccharomyces sereviceae levels were tested with            a polynomial orthogonal test. Results indicated that there were no interactions between the soaking treatment and concentration of Saccharomyces sereviceae in affecting the parameters observed. Concentrations of erythrocyte, hemoglobin, or hematocrit increased while that of leukocyte decreased with increasing levels of Saccharomyces sereviceae in diets. Soaking the cocoa pod in KOH solution decreased the number of leukocyte but it did not affect the numbers of erythrocyte, hemoglobin, or hematocrit. Key words: Cocoa-pod husk, fermentation, goat, KOH, physiological status.
