Abstract

Presence of water on earth not all of them can be used by living beings, especially humans. Watershed Loano Hulu is one of the watershed located in Central Java province. Loano DAS has a function for the area underneath. For the study of water balance is necessary to know the potential of water in the watershed, thereby criticality index can be determined so that the water in the watershed can be determined for watershed management measures are to be maintained. The purpose of this study is to determine the Water Holding Capacity (WHC) at the sites and determine the Water Balance. The research was conducted in the Upper Basin Loano Purworejo in Central Java Province. The research activities carried out in June 2009. The method used in the implementation of this study using the Thornthwaite-Mather. Data obtained on the basis of data WHC soil texture and extensive vegetation cover or land use, but it also needs climate data. Based on the results of the calculation results obtained WHC Loano watershed upstream of 245 mm. The size of the WHC reflects both the poor condition of a watershed. If the WHC of the watershed condition is very good, because it can save large amounts of water. Conversely the small WHC watershed condition is not good then it means the ability to store water is a small watershed. WHC value of  245 mm for the watershed Loano Hulu reflect the ability of the watershed to store water is high enough, so that the watershed is included in the DAS good condition. In meteorological amount of rainfall that occurred in the Upper Basin Loano big enough in January to reach 400 mm, the amount of rain up in June is still able to compensate for potential evapotranspiration occurs. Water deficit occurred during the five months from June to October occurred. Evapotranspiration that occurs less than the rainfall that occurred, so the watershed is a meteorologist had a surplus of water. Key words: soil, landuse, water holding capacity, water balance

Abstract

The availability of high-quality and sustainable livestock feed remains a major challenge in the development of the livestock sector, particularly in West Halmahera. One of the key factors affecting livestock feed availability is land suitability for forage crop cultivation. Bangko Hamlet in Bobane Igo Village possesses extensive land potential, but its utilization has not been optimized. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the area’s land for forage crops such as Calliandra, Leucaena, and Napier grass. The research employed the matching method, comparing land characteristics with land suitability criteria. The results indicate that the actual land suitability ranges from S2 (moderately suitable) to N1 (not suitable). The main limiting factors identified include water availability (dry months and rainfall), erosion levels, nutrient retention (base saturation and organic matter content), and topography affecting drainage and slope. Improvement efforts such as fertilization, water management, soil conservation, and erosion control can enhance potential land suitability to the S2 class. This study recommends management strategies based on limiting factors to support sustainable land utilization and meet the livestock feed demand in the area.

Abstract

Land use planning is the process of inventorying and assessing the status, potential and limitations of a given area and its resources, which local people interact with or with people who care about the area to determine their needs, wants and aspirations. for the time. Kulaba sub-district is a small part of Ternate City which is located in West Ternate sub-district, which has a characteristic sloping to steep topographic area. The purpose of this study is to plan land use based on land capability, which is in the Kulaba Village, so that it becomes information in farming and other businesses. Determination of sampling points using a map then carried out a land survey with a free survey observation distance system, the approach used is analytic. Classification of land capability is categorized based on the characteristics that are potential and obstacles in its use. This analysis uses the LCLP (Land Classification and Landuse Planning) application. The results showed land use planning based on land capability that the land at the research location in Kulaba Village had four land capability classes namely III, IV, VI and VIII with the limiting factor of surface slope (L), soil permeability (P) and erosion sensitivity (KE). and subsoil texture with an area of 259.4 Ha. The alternative is that C-organic must have an important role in determining the soil's ability to support plants.

Abstract

This study evaluates land capability in Tafamutu Village, Moti District, Ternate City, as a basis for sustainable land-use planning. Employing the Land Capability Classification (LCC) framework and the Land Classification and Land Use Planning (LCLP) software, the analysis identifies five land capability classes (V–VIII) across sixteen land mapping units. Subclass V‑P1, occupying 7.6 ha (1.1%), is constrained by slow permeability (< 25 mm/h). In contrast, subclass V‑b3, covering 100.4 ha (14.9%), is characterized by high coarse fragment content (> 90%), resulting in splash erosion rates of up to 22.3% under intense rainfall. Class VI‑E, comprising 135.3 ha (20.1%), is defined by moderate slopes (30%–45%) and elevated surface runoff potential—up to 75% higher compared to gentle slopes (< 15%). Class VII‑e5 encompasses 143.9 ha (21.4%) and is marked by severe erosion, with rates reaching 1,738.2 t ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹. Class VIII‑G, the most significant area at 261.2 ha (38.9%), includes very steep slopes (> 65%) and is designated strictly for conservation purposes. The dominant soil textures are clay loam and sandy loam, with an average adequate depth of 80 cm and a pH range of 5.0–6.5. These edaphic conditions support the cultivation of cloves and nutmeg, contingent upon implementing appropriate soil conservation techniques such as terracing and organic mulching. Based on the land capability assessment, recommended land uses include grazing on Class V lands (108 ha; 16.5%), limited plantation development on Class VI (135.3 ha; 20.1%), production forestry on Class VII (143.9 ha; 21.4%), and strict protection as forest reserves on Class VIII (261.2 ha; 38.9%). These zoning guidelines are instrumental in promoting climate-resilient land management and the sustainable utilization of natural resources within coastal volcanic landscapes.
