Abstract

Agriculture as the second largest supporting sector in the Indonesian economy has functioned as a provider of food, a provider of employment, and a source of community income. The need for staple food, especially rice, continues to increase along with the increase in population. The high conversion of agricultural land has become a threat to food security in Tangerang Regency. The strategy that needs to be carried out by the government is the availability of production land and the welfare of rice farmers. Farmer's Exchange Rate is an indicator used to measure farmers' welfare. This study aims to analyze rice farmers’ exchange rate and the effect of variables on land area, productivity, rice prices, fertilizer prices, and pesticide prices on the welfare of rice farmers in the Tangerang Regency. The research method used is Farmer's Exchange Rate Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression. Farmer's Exchange Rate is the ratio of the price of Laspeyers or the comparison of the price index received by farmers with the price index issued by farmers. Multiple Linear Regression to determine the effect of variables on land area, productivity, rice prices, fertilizer prices, and pesticide prices on the welfare of rice farmers. The results showed that the exchange rate of rice farmers in Tangerang Regency in 2021 experienced a significant decline. This is due to the Covid-19 pandemic which has increased the prices of farmers' consumer goods. Variables of land area, rice price, fertilizer price, and pesticide price significantly affect farmers' welfare.

Abstract

Background: Brebes District, recognized as the largest shallot producer in Indonesia, continues to face challenges in ensuring the welfare of its shallot farmers. This situation emerged from a complex network of stakeholders involved in shallot agribusiness in the Brebes District, characterized by a significant presence of intermediaries. Purpose: This research aims to i) analyze the shallot supply chain in the Brebes District by applying the Food Supply Chain Network (FSCN) approach and ii) examine its performance through marketing margin and farmer share. Design/methodology/approach: Data was gathered through interviews with 83 shallot farmers and 12 marketing actors in the Brebes District. Additionally, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted to gather strategic insights from all stakeholders involved in the shallot agribusiness in the Brebes District. The research used a qualitative approach to answer the FSCN analysis and a quantitative approach to measure the supply chain performance.Findings/Result: This study identified that the supply chain had clear objectives and structured relationships between actors. However, it was not optimized because the business process was not integrated into the long term. The supply chain involved multiple marketing channels, where each level of intermediary had involvement and impact on farmer share and margins. More direct marketing channels, such as Marketing Channel I, where farmers sell directly to village traders, offer the highest farmer share (89%) due to the absence of intermediaries like wholesalers. In contrast, channels involving more intermediaries, such as wholesalers in Channels III and V, result in higher total margins but a lower farmer share (81%). Conclusion: The FSCN analysis of shallots in the Brebes District reveals a complex marketing system with various channels. Direct marketing channels give farmers the highest share by removing intermediaries, while those with more intermediaries offer higher total margins but lower farmer shares. Reducing intermediaries is recommended to boost farmer incomes. Additionally, inefficiencies like poor coordination and limited access to market information hinder overall performance.Originality/value (State of the art): This study introduces a novel application of the FSCN approach to comprehensively analyze the shallot supply chain in Brebes District, Indonesia. The FSCN offers insights into the complex relationships between farmers, traders, and other actors, their challenges, and the potential for improving the system's efficiency. Keywords: shallot, information sharing, marketing actors, marketing channels, supply chain efficiency

Abstract

One of the main problems faced by farmers in Tonjong Village, Tajur Halang Regency, Bogor is that the selling price of pure milk in 1 liter is quite low. Public knowledge regarding processing technology to increase product added value is still low, which is the reason farmers sell pure milk directly. This community service training aims to determine the effect of processing pure milk into mozzarella cheese on increasing community knowledge and skills. This increase in knowledge was measured using a one group pretest posttest design which was carried out in a prametric analysis using a paired sample t-test to see the difference in the mean scores. This training activity was given to 10 people in the community around the cattle farm in Tonjong Village who had an age range of 26-70 years and had the last education from elementary to high school. The results of this training community service indicate that there is a significant effect of giving on increasing community knowledge as evidenced by the significantly different pretest (68%) and posttest (87%) values (p <0.05). The expected results of community service can be implemented independently by breeders to increase the added value of dairy products through the processing of mozzarella cheese.
