Abstract

In implementing guidance and counseling services at schools, adolescent problems have been a classic problem for a long time. During adolescence, known as the storm and stress period, emotions tend to be explosive and uncontrollable. They tend to blow up their feelings towards their parents or siblings. For some families, the situation brings them into family conflict. Families who only deal with the problem behavior will make the symptoms more persistent, known as the symptomatic family cycle. Micucci argues that the root of the problem is not in the problematic behavior of adolescents but in the patterns of interaction within the family. This article uses a literature review focusing on debriefs on the Micucci book. We found that the most crucial role of the counselor is to help families change symptom-related patterns of interaction. The main principle: The therapist or counselor replaces automatic and reactive responses among family members with more thoughtful and planned responses. Family therapy has five stages: beginning, identification, reframing, core treatment, and addition. Based on Micucci’s guidelines, the family therapy process requires all the competencies: pedagogic, personality, social, and professional. Personal competence and professional competence become the basis of the therapy process, while pedagogic competence and social competence complement and support the success of the family therapy process. Family therapy can be an alternative for the counselor to help adolescents with symptomatic problems.

Abstract

The pandemic was a test of the boundaries and challenges to conventional practices in healthcare education systems. During the emergent pandemic situation, several critical decisions were promptly taken, disregarding students' consent. For instance, healthcare students were encouraged to serve as health volunteers. The surge in responsibilities led to an increase in burnout cases among students, a decline in motivation, academic achievement, and an inclination to consider dropping out or discontinuing education. This study aimed to investigate risk and protection factors contributing to burnout in healthcare students, categorizing the elements into intrinsic and extrinsic. The method employed a literature review following the PRISMA guidelines. Four databases, namely ProQuest, PubMed, Google Scholar, and DOAJ were searched in March 2022, leading to 18 articles meeting the criteria out of 3,835 initially identified. The results showed at least thirty factors contributing to burnout risk and protection, with two-thirds falling into intrinsic and the rest in the extrinsic group. The findings suggested that burnout in healthcare students primarily stems from internal factors rather than environmental influences. These results enhance the design of interventions to prevent and address student’s burnout more effectively and efficiently.

Abstract

Career decisions during adolescence are crucial and challenging. Most adolescents experience career indecisiveness, including dilemma, pressure, confusion, and difficulties which causes them to delay or leave their choices to others. Previous studies examined career indecision related to personality factors, social support, and school career programs. Aim of this study to examine the relationship and effect of academic burnout and quality on life towards career indecisiveness in adolescents. This quantitative study involved 575 adolescents in the Greater Jakarta area, which were selected through random sampling techniques. Data were collected by using google form questionnaires through a link. In this stage, the instrument consists of the Student Burnout Inventory, The WHO Quality of Life BREF, and The Career Indecisiveness Scale. Data were analyzed with multiple correlations and regression tests. The results showed that both academic burnout and quality of life have moderate correlations and effect in adolececnts’ career indecisiveness at 18.3%. The psycho-emotional dimension was a role in predicting academic burnout and quality of life, meanwhile the lack of information was a major problem for adolescents’ career indecisiveness.
