Abstract

Fraction was very important to be taught as a basis for learning mathematics for the next stage. This research aimed to design fractions learning for fourth grade students. The method used was design research with type of validation studies which consists three stages, namely the preliminary design, the design experiment, and the retrospective analysis. This research was conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) in Jambi City with research subjects were eleven students in the fourth grade. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that students really followed the command of questions, so as a teacher or question maker, we must design questions clearly. In addition, students tended to operate fractions starting from addition or subtraction, then multiplication, and lastly division.

Abstract

In everyday life, we were asked to be careful in making decisions, especially regarding financial matters. This research aimed to design a financial mathematical task to train students to be wiser in making decisions regarding financial matters. The method used in this research was design research with type of development studies. The approach used in this research was Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) or in Indonesia is better known as Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI). For the context, this research used buying a house with credit or banking context. This research was conducted at Vocational High School 01 Jambi City with the subjects were eleventh-grade students with major of accounting. This research produced a financial mathematical task in the context of buying a house that was valid, practical, and has potential effect for financial mathematics learning. The research results also found that students became wiser in making decisions regarding financial matters. This research can also be a reference for vocational high school teachers to make financial mathematics teaching materials.

Abstract

This research aimed to design financial mathematics assignment based on Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach and de Lange's theory to get validity, practicality, and effects of potential. In designing, we also consider the fundamental characteristics of financial mathematics including relevance, representational faithfulness, verifiability, timeliness, understandability, and comparability. We used development studies on design research method. This research was conducted at Vocational High School (VHS) 1 Jambi City in XI grade of Accounting Major. We collected the data through documentation, observation, interview, and tests. As a result, this research products the higher level assignment of financial mathematics based on PMRI approach and de Lange theory that is valid, practical, and have potential effects with consider the fundamental characteristics of financial mathematics. The results of research also found that, students became more understanding in financial activities. Moreover, it also can be used as a consideration to VHS for designing financial mathematics assignments.

Abstract

Financial mathematics is a crucial discipline for students, mainly when taught using real-life contexts such as gold and its share. It can help students develop practical solutions to financial problems. This study aimed to design a financial mathematics task for Vocational High Schools (VHS) that is valid, practical, and demonstrates potential effects utilizing the Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach in the context of gold and its share. The research employed a design research methodology, specifically a development study involving two primary phases: preliminary and formative evaluation. The latter included multiple stages of prototype development, beginning with self-evaluation, then expert review, one-on-one sessions, small group trials, and culminating in a field test. The study was conducted with 44 eleventh-grade accounting students at VHS 1 Jambi City, consisting of 3 students for the one-to-one phase, 6 for the small group phase, and 35 for the field test phase. Data were collected through tests, interviews, documentation, and observations. The findings indicate that the financial mathematics task designed using the PMRI approach, contextualized in gold and its share, was valid, practical, and positively impacted student learning. Students not only developed a deeper understanding of real-world financial issues but also enhanced their decision-making abilities in financial contexts. Additionally, teachers expressed a greater willingness to adopt the PMRI approach in their instruction, suggesting that this context can effectively support the teaching of financial mathematics in vocational high schools.

Abstract

In daily life, banks usually not only offer their saving programs but also their stocks. This research focuses on designing a financial mathematical task for vocational high school (VHS) which is valid, practical, and has potential effects using saving and stock context. Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) is the approach used in this research. For the method, we used design research with a type of development studies. This research was conducted at VHS 1 at Jambi City with research subjects were the eleventh-grade students of accounting major. This research produces three financial mathematical tasks with the context of saving and stock. The results of research also found that by using saving and stock context, students became more understanding of real-world problems and wise in making decisions regarding financial problems. This research can also be used as a reference for financial mathematics teaching materials, especially for vocational high school teachers.
