Abstract

Community service activities have been carried out at SDN Inpres Dobonsolo, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province. This activity was in the form of counseling and demonstrations about the introduction of chemistry through Fun Chemistry for students. The purpose of this service is to increase and train creativity and foster students' interest in chemistry. Activities carried out by introducing the role of chemistry in everyday life and conducting simple experiments such as rainbows in bottles; blowing gas balloons using mentos and baking soda; elephant toothpaste; and color magic. Experiments were carried out using tools and materials that are easily available around at home or school. Students are very enthusiastic, active, interactive, and not rigid in conducting simple experiments at the demonstration stage. In other words, through Fun Chemistry students can develop skills in science and scientific attitudes, so that the assumption about learning chemistry is difficultKeywords: SDN Inpres Dobonsolo; Chemistry; Fun Chemistry; Simple Experiment

Abstract

Abstract

Papua has various kinds of potential marine natural resource wealth, both biological and non-biological natural wealth. The potential of these natural resources should be utilized to improve the community's economy. Utilization of the potential of marine resources is still far from expectations. One of the potential marine resources is seaweed. Seaweed has export potential, and its economic value is met from cultivation activities. The aim of this community partnership empowerment (PKM) activity is to increase the knowledge of small-scale seaweed farmers and implement pre-harvest seaweed cultivation practices in Arareni Village, Yapen Islands Regency. The approach used is the delivery of material through socialization related to cultivation practices, starting from the land preparation process, seeding, maintenance, calculating harvest time and yields, as well as group management. During the socialization there were also questions and answers and discussions. The success of the activity is evaluated through a pre-post test. The results show that the highest increase in knowledge was achieved in the cultivation process material (pre-test 47% and post-test 61%). Seaweed farmers know that the seed production age is 25-30 days, harvest after 30-45 days, seed weight 50-100 grams, maintenance takes 25-30 days, distance between ropes 100-200 cm, seeds must be 20-50 cm apart below the water surface and the yield size is 250 g/rope.

Abstract

West Koya is one of the areas that has the most fertile land among other villages/sub-districts in the Muara Tami District area. This area has a soil texture and is the most efficient planting medium for secondary crops, especially rice and vegetables. The pest that often appears annoying is the whitefly. The aim of carrying out this community service activity is to provide information about the dangers of continuous use of chemical pesticides and the manufacture of pesticides from essential oils which can be used to treat or prevent nuisance pests such as whiteflies. The stages of the service method used are the initial survey, implementation of activities including counseling and demonstrations, as well as evaluation activity. Apart from that, through this service, West Koya MA students gain their knowledge and students can socialize with the surrounding environment, especially families who have agricultural land. The material presented in this activity will be through counseling sessions and demonstrations. The results of the evaluation of the service activities were assessed as very good by the target group by giving a score with the criteria of very good with a frequency value of 17 and good with a frequency value of 7. The target group's satisfaction score is high because the service activities can help increase insight into the target group.

Abstract

A study has been conducted on the analysis of the effect of moisture content on the acidity level (pH H2O and pH KCl) of the soil of Burmeso Village using the electrometry method. Samples were taken from a depth of 0-10 cm with a sample soil ring. Next, the soil samples were dried at 105°C for 3 hours, sifted using a 200 mesh sieve. The analysis was carried out on the physical properties (moisture content) and its correlation with the chemical properties (Soil Acidity). The results of this study showed that the soil moisture content of three soil samples was 9.03 (TL), 9.065 (TH), and 9.56 (TB) and was classified as high enough moisture content so that it had a direct effect on the pH of farmland, forest soil and ex-field soil was classified as sour (low) to slightly sour (moderate), the high and low pH greatly affected the nutrient content in the soil so that it produced. The results of soil acidity analysis also indicate that the actual acidity pH value (H2O pH) is greater when compared to the potential pH (pH KCl) so that the ΔpH value tends to be negative including -0.705 (TL), -0.84 (TH), and -1.035 (TB), this negative value shows that the soil of Burmeso Village is a negative net load soil occupied by exchangeable bases (KTK).

Abstract

Cinnamomum burmannii is a leading Indonesian commodity in global trade. The part of the cinnamon plant that has not been fully utilized is the leaves. Cinnamon leaves can be used as a prospective product, namely essential oils that can be used as base notes in making perfume. Essential oil processing can be done simply by the steam distillation method. However, many people still do not know how to process essential oils properly. This Community Service (PKM) activity is a form of knowledge transfer by the implementing team from the Chemistry Department of Cenderawasih University to students of SMAIT Insan Cendikia Jayapura regarding the manufacture of perfume from essential oils made from cinnamon leaves. The activity was carried out on June 4, 2025. The methods used in this service included an initial survey, implementation of activities including counseling and demonstrations, and activity evaluation. During this activity, a simple distillation unit was also handed over to the school, as a provision for students to practice the material that had been given in the hope of improving students' skills in processing essential oils. The results achieved in this activity showed that students were very enthusiastic, active, and interactive in absorbing knowledge. Based on the evaluation results (initial test and final test) showed a significant increase to 93% after participating in this activity.
