Abstract

Background: On radiographic examination, the direction of the beam affects the anatomical image of the object produced. Pedis examination of the AP projection  is a radiographic examination that uses two directions of beam. The direction of beam is with and withhout X-ray tube angulation.  This research aims to compare radiograph anatomy information with and without X-ray tube angulation on pedis examination of the ap projection. Methods: This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data was obtained by making radiographs using  with and without X-ray tube angulation using object phantom. The radiographic imaging of the pedis were observed by ten respondents, consist of radiology specialist t and resident radiology specialist, by giving questionnaires. Then the data obtained will be processed by being described and analyzed. Results: The result of the research showed different of x-ray tube angulation on the pedis examination on AP projections is the use of 100 angles because they get a high score. As well as the use of angle 100 chepalad can visualize both the interphalangeal joint space, metatarsophalangeal joint space, tarsometatarsasl joint space, joint space between the navicular and cuneifrome appear open, navicular, and cuboid. While the use of an angle of 00 can show the sesamoid bone and three cuneiform bones quite well. The angle of the beam direction is 100 chepalad so that the direction of the beam is perpendicular to the metatarsal bone so that there is no distortion in the metatarsal bone image. If the case is a fracture without having to prioritize the joint space, then the examination without an angle can be done because it is easier and saves time. Conclusion: AP projection of the pedis radiograph with the use of an angle 100 chepalad and without the use of posterior tube angulation  with the posterior beam toward the heel produces different anatomical information. The most optimal anatomical information is generated by the use of a 100 chepalad.

Abstract

Background: Fat saturation is an alternative technique to improve image information in T1 WI post contrast MRI of brain tumor. It can increase lesion conspituity by suppressing normal tissue’s signal. To optimize image information by using fat saturation, selection of Fat Saturation type and Time Repetition (TR) value are important. Objectives: to analyze the differences in T1 WI post-contrast image information in MRI of brain tumor in various type of Fat Saturation and TR value. Methods: Experimental study with factorial design conducted in  Telogorejo Hospital-Semarang. Nine combinations (9 groups) of three Fat Saturation types (none, weak, and strong) by three TR values (700 ms, 750 ms, and 800 ms) were given to 12 patients of MRI brain tumor. Image informations were assessed by measuring  SNR (white matter, gray matter, lesions, surrounding tissue), CNR (white matter- gray matter, white matter-CSF, gray matter-CSF, lesion- surrounding tissue), lesion conspituity, artifacts, and contrast image in general. Results: The results showed that there were significant differences in SNR of white matter, gray matter, and in surrounding tissue (p 0.05); CNR of white matter-CSF, gray matter-CSF, lesion-tissue surrounding tissue (p 0.05); and lesion conspituity (p 0.05) between groups with no sat fat, weak fat sat, and strong fat sat. There were significant differences in SNR of white matter, gray matter, and surrounding tissue (p 0.05); and CNR of white matter-CSF, gray matter-CSF, and lesion- surrounding tissue (p 0.05) between group TR 700 ms, TR 750 ms, and TR 800 ms.Conclusion: Combination of strong fat saturation and TR 700 ms can produce the most optimal image information.

Abstract

Backgroud: Previous researches show that the use of out of plane shielding can reduce the radiation dose received by radiosensitive organs around the scan area on CT scan. There is a special shielding designed for CT scans, but currently the type of shielding available in almost all radiology installations is the lead apron. This study aims to determine the dose received by the breast area on CT abdominal scan without shielding and its reduction by giving lead apron shielding on 1800 and 3600.Methods:This is quantitative research with a pre-experimental design. Abdominal CT scan was performed on a whole body CT phantom whose characteristics are close to human body tissue. The radiation dose received by the breast area was measured by Termoluminisence-dosemeter (TLD). TLD’s were placedon the same points. Scanning was performed using Siemens Somaris/5 Syngo, repeated in three conditions: without shielding, lead apron shielded (equivalent to 5 mm Pb) by 1800 and 3600. The rouitne protocol was used (120 kv and 200 mA) Data was analyzed by Paired t-test to determine the difference in radiation dose received and descriptive analysis for know the level of reduction. Results:The radiation dose received by the breast area without shielding, with shielding 1800, and with shielding 3600 were respectively 0.653 mSv, 0.367 mSv, and 0.242 mSv. There were significant differences in the dose received by the breast area (p value 0.05) by using shielding. Compared to unshieldied condition, there was a decrease of 43.95% when shielded 1800, and a decrease of 62.94% when shielded 1800.Conclusion:Lead apron is effective for reducing radiation dose on breast in abdominal CT. 3600 shielding provides higher reduction than 3600 shielding, so it can be considered to be applied in clinical procedure.

Abstract

Background: Cranial radiographs are routinely made in 2 projections, namely Antero Posterior (AP) and Lateral with a minimum distance of 100 cm from the radiation source to the image receptor. In addition, it has been shown that increasing the SID from 40 to 48 inches reduces the skin dose even when the requirement for an increase in mAs is considered. A 44-inch or 48-inch SID is recommended where departmental equipment and protocols allow. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the addition of SID to decrease the radiation dose on cranium radiographs. Methods: This type of research is a pre-experimental quantitative. The study was conducted at the radiology laboratory of Diploma Three Program of Radiology Purwokerto, Semarang Health Politechnic of Ministry of Health. The research subject is a Radiographic Xray Cranial Phantom. At the time of exposure, the radiation dose was measured and the resulting image was measured CNR value. Results: The results of radiation dose measurements at each SID setting for AP cranium radiographs are shown in the table above. setting SID 100 cm produces a radiation dose of 5.58 mSv, SID 110 cm produces a radiation dose of 5.16 mSv, SID 120 cm produces a radiation dose of 5.02 mSv, SID 130 cm produces a radiation dose of 4.84 mSv, SID 140 cm produces a radiation dose of 4.64 mSv and SID 150 cm produces a radiation dose of 4.36 mSv. There are differences in radiation dose values between SID settings of 100 cm, 110 cm, 120 cm, 130 cm, 140 cm and 150 cm with a statistical test p-value 0.001. The results of statistical tests on the Contrast to Noise Ratio value on changes in the SID value of the AP cranium radiography examination showed no significant difference. The p-value of the statistical test is 0.274 which means there is no difference in the CNR value between the SID settings of 100 cm, 110 cm, 120 cm, 130 cm, 140 cm and 150 cm.Conclusions: An increase in SID causes a decrease in radiation dose. The increase in SID did not cause a significant difference to the quality of the Contrast to Noise Ratio on the AP cranium radiograph image.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the weight of the silver produced from silver recovery process using electrolysis and chemical deposition method with which NaOH 5 M. As well as to determine the method most widely produced silver from both methods. This research is an experimental study. Data collection was performed on material that has been saturated with fixer electrolysis method and precipitation with NaOH 5 M. Fixer solution that has been saturated by 20 liters divided by two. Furthermore, each volume by 10 liters silver recovery process performed by the method of electrolysis and precipitation with NaOH 5 M. The results showed that the silver recovery by electrolysis method produces silver as much as 29 grams, while silver recovery with NaOH 5 M resulted in the deposition of silver as much as 27 grams. Of both methods are the most widely produced silver is a method of electrolysis. Besides electrolysis method has the advantage of faster process, more practical, in generating pure silver is ready for sale. But it has the disadvantage expensive appliance. While the deposition method is cheaper, long process, longer chemical contamination and dangerous, impractical, drying takes a long time to do a new purification by combustion (burning with welding tools).

Abstract

Technological evolution from conventional to digital in diagnostic imaging bring a change in the implementation of Quality Control (QC) of radiology. As a part of the Quality Assurance (QA), QC Radiology is implemented to determine the eligibility condition of the radiography equipment used for the radiological examinations. A Direct Digital Radiography (DDR) unit has been installed in Radiography Laboratory (Lab 3), School of Radiodiagnostic and Radiotherapy, the Health Polytechnic of Semarang since February 2013. However, routine performance tests of the equipment have never been performed. This study aimed to obtain baseline data by assessing the equipment parameters of the X-ray and the digital-DDR systems (illumination collimator; collimator accuracy; beam alignment; tube leakage; kVp accuracy; timer accuracy; mA linearity; reproducibility; HVL, and dark image; nonuniformity; noise; bad pixels; lag respectively). Accuracy and reproducibility of the DDR unit were measured following the procedure of Perka Bapeten No. 9-2011 (for X-ray System) and IEC 62220-1: 2003 (for digital system. Data were analyzed descriptively by QC-DR software. Results showed that X-rays system and digital system had overall good performance. Signal non-uniformity was found in the value of Local Signal to Noise Ratio (LSNRNU) and Global Signal to Noise Ratio (GSNRNU. Non-uniformity caused by the characteristics of the detector and the lack of correction in system performance. Signal correction software needed to be developed to reach signal uniformities. Spatial resolution and low contrast detectability testing also needed to be performed to ensure the ability of the DDR unit to produce image resolution and contrast picture of the object.

Abstract

Backgroud: blurring artifact is an issue in axial cervical MRI using T2 Turbo Spin Echo (TSE) weighted Cartesian. T2W TSE BLADE is potential to substitute its shortcomings. This study aims to analyze the image quality and artifacts between T2W TSE Cartesian and T2W TSE BLADE on axial cervical MRI examination and to determine the better sequence in producing image quality. Methods: this is a quantitative research with descriptive approach. 7 volunteers were scanned for cervical axial examination with T2W TSE, T2W TSE Cartesian and T2W TSE Blade. Images were processed in MathlabTM. SNR of intervertebral disc, spinal cord and CSF were measured using ROI. Image resolution were find out from pixel spacing in DICOM info. Blurring artifact were analyzed by comparing the signal of blurred area to the background noise. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: SNR of T2W TSE Cartesian and T2W TSE BLADE were 22,144 and 17,532 (intervertebral disc), 20,952 and 16,786 (spinal cord), and 16,717 and 12,883 (CSF) respectively. Image resolution (mean) were 0,391 pixel/mm (T2W TSE Cartesian) and 0,625 (T2W TSE BLADE). Blurring artifact were 8,161 (T2W TSE Cartesian) and 6,826 (T2W TSE Blade). Conclusion: T2W TSE Cartesian was superior in pixel intensity and SNR, while the blade technique was superior in terms of spatial resolution and artifacts reduction. Thus, it is recommended to be applied in clinical field if the SNR or image detail is the priority.
