Abstract

Abstract

The Cethol fish was used as a dietary raw material of chips fish by local people in Magelang. The population of the fish was decreased and impacted to fish chips production. The Cethol fish farming could be the one of solution to maintain the stock of this fish as dietary raw material. Nevertheless, the taxonomic status of Cethol fish as the primary information of in Magelang still unclear. Taxonomic status is of organisms is useful to inform biology, reproduction and traits of candidate species will be farmed. The aim of research is revealing the taxonomic status of Cethol fish in Magelang using common barcoding marker Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) from mitochondrial DNA. The COI gene sequences of Cethol fish from Magelang and other sequence samples from NCBI were used to construct the phylogenetic tree and haplotype network approach to reveal the similarity and clustered of the fish sequence samples. The maximum likelihood and minimum evolution were considered as construction tree method by Kimura 2 parameter statistic model and 1000 bootstrap value. The Median joining statistic model was generated to reveal grouping form and substitution rate of each samples. The phylogenetic tree was constructed from COI gene of Cethol fishes from Magelang are grouped in the same clade and monophyletic with the Poecilia reticulata COI gene from South America as the origin of the fish species. Meanwhile, the P.reticulata from Bengkulu, Sumatera and Java were clearly separated with the samples from Magelang but still in haplogroup with the South America sequence samples. Those result are strengthen the previously notion that the Cethol fish in Magelang is a group species of P.reticulata from South America.

Abstract

Mutiara catfish, the second largest food fish in Magelang Regency, faces challenges due to high feed prices. To address this, researchers are exploring the use of crude glycerin biodiesel waste as an alternative feed. This research aims to determine the potential of crude glycerin as an alternative feed for mutiara catfish and its impact on their growth. The study involved selecting feed raw materials, formulation, manufacturing, feeding, observing fish growth, water quality, and proximate testing of test feed. The research used a randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The test feed consisted of P1 25% crude glycerin, P2 50% crude glycerin, P3 75% crude glycerin, and PK, a control in the form of pellets. Feeding was carried out twice a day using the ad satiation method. The study found that the P1 25% crude glycerin feed had the second-best results regarding 19 grams weight gain, 67.85% specific growth rate, 8 cm length growth, and 0.05 feed conversion ratio. The feed also had a 100% survival rate. The water quality was measured, with temperature and pH values ranging between 25-30℃ and 6.98-7.63. The proximate test results showed that the P1 feed had the second-best 12.70% water content, 20.51% ash content, 1.47% fat content, 15.04% protein content, and 50.28% carbohydrate content. The study concluded that the test feed effectively influences fish growth, but further research is needed to optimize feed nutrition.

Abstract

This research aims to determine aspects of cetol fish reproductive biology including sexuality, sex ratio, GSI, gonadal maturity (TKG), and fecundity, in order to obtain information as a basis for cultivation. Samples were taken in 6 waters in the Magelang Regency area, during August at 1 week intervals. The data obtained is presented in the form of tables and figures, analyzed descriptively. Water quality is classified as good, temperature range 22.5-29.8 °C, pH 6.09-6.80, and DO 7.0-15.7 mg/L. Cetol fish have sexual dimorphism and dichromatism. The male:female sex ratio is 1.1:1. Male and female fish in TKG I-VI, with a greater percentage of males and females in TKG III-VI than in TKG I-II. At a length of 1.6-2.0 cm, males have been found in TKG III-V and females in TKG III-IV, and at a length of 2.1-2.5 cm, males and females have been found in TKG III-VI. The GSI of male fish reaches 8.22% (1.2-2.5 cm) and for females it reaches 28.09% (1.1-3.8 cm). Fecundity ranges from 2-36 eggs (1.1-3.8 cm and 0.07-0.57 g). The conclusion of this research is that the sex ratio is unequal, male and female cetol fish first mature gonads at a length of 1.6-2.0 cm, and females can give birth to young at a length of 2.1-2.5 cm. August is the spawning season for cetol fish marked by high GSI and TKG advanced. Cetol fish are viviparous so fecundity is low.
